Nov 30, 2007I kept BSOD'ing due to the patch required to use 4gb of ram to use/install vista (seriously, wtf?). I got my machine up and running. I went from vista hp x86 to hp x64. So my question is this (little backstory): Way back when (3 days agho) I had this setup.My ram would get a rating of 5.6, 5.9 when overclocked. I changed out my ram for g-skill 2x4gb sticks (5-5-5-15), but when one was defective i put my old patriot ram back in (along with a NEW asus-p5ne mobo since my other one died), reinstalled vista x86 and the ram suddenly now gets rated as a 5.1 Fast forward to today. With the 2 gb of RAM (the same 2 sticks that got a 5.6). get rated at a 5.1 again in vista x64. when i added the additional 2gb, i get a 5.3. Now before anyone asks, YES I: changed the timings in the bios to 4-4-4-12 and adjusted the memory to proper voltage (2.2). So FINALLY the question is this --- what would cause a drop in the RAM rating? I know its NOT the motherboard since it got hte same rating on both my p5ne-sli and this new abit board.

Windows Experience Index Rating
Apr 18, 2008My "Graphics" and "Gaming Graphics" ratings are both 1.0. What do I need to do to increase them? I also get a warning message when trying to play any games that reads: "Hardware acceleration is either disabled or not supported by your video card driver, which could slow game performance. Make sure you have the latest
video card driver installed and that hardware acceleration is turned on." How do I check the video card driver and where do I go to download the latest version?

Jul 30, 2009a friend of mine has a copy of vista ultimate which says on the box Made in Purto Rico. Does it make any difference whether it's made in PR or in the USA? Please someone let me know ASAP since he's looking to sell it ASAP.

Mar 23, 2008I have purchased a new computer with Intel Dual Core 1.6 GHz, 256 MB Nvidia card, 1 GB RAM, 250 GB SATA HDD. My rating index is shown as 3.0 even though I have updated it several times. Also, available physical memory is also shown just above 300 MB. Is anything needs to be updated, I am unable to understand what is going wrong here.

Though the automatic discovery never worked between the two but after manually adding the mouse after each bootup, the mouse worked fine before the SP2 upgrade. Since then the mouse doesn't show up in the paring window at all.

Mar 23, 2008when i made a new account i put it as a standard user and when i went to that user to set it up i was just a blue screen and i could see the mouse and move it around and when i hit ctrl-alt-delete the little list would come up and when it clicked on task manager it would come up and nothing was running in the applications so i clicked on new task and typed in winver because that is the only task i can remember and it came up any you could see the information or the computer.
so i logged off the user and went back to my account (wich it the admin) and set the new user as an administrator and then i logged back on to the account and the screen came up and you could do everything. I thought it was a one time thing so i went back and put it back on standard and tried it again and the same thing happend. i have tried it atleast five times but nothing has happend. i do not know what to do but leave it on administrator but i dont want that account on admin.
Burn DVD: Only Play On Computer It Was Made On
Mar 23, 2008When I burn a DVD using windows movie maker on windows vista, the dvd will only play on the computer it was made on. It will not work on any other computer or DVD player. Any ideas why not? Don't have this problem when making a movie using movie maker on computer with windows XP.

Restoring From Backups Not Made On Current System.
Dec 6, 2009I had to rebuild my workstation. I performed a backup, but not a system recovery. Just want my files. It backed up all my files, but when I try to restore them using the restore client, it only shows a small subset of the files I had under my user directory. However, if I look at the ext. disk I backed them up to, I see hundreds of zip files. If I look into those files, I see all my missing files. How come I cannot see all these files in my restore client? Is there a way to fix this? P.S. I have taken ownership of these files using my new account.

Just ran Quake4 at full specs and had Nvidia performance control panel turn the fan to 90%... but would like to monitor the temps and frame rates on this and other games. 9800GT 1GB. Aug 5, 2008I partitioned my hard drive, installed Linux, added it to the boot loader and everything was fine.
I updated my Linux kernel and rebooted, but because I hadn't configured the Linux LILO bootloader properly i couldn't boot into anything.
Eventually I managed to uninstall LILO and use the HP Vista Recovery on my laptop to use "bootrec.exe /fixmbr" command which proceeded to restore my default Vista MBR.
Since I used that command, my boot loader comes up with Windows Vista and the HP Recovery of which both work. The problem I'm having now is that I cannot add the Linux partition or any other new OS to my boot loader.
Vistabootpro doesn't have the capabilities to add Linux to the MBR, so I used EasyBCD and set my added a Linux entry EXACTLY how it had worked in my previous MBR, yet when I boot up the entry is just not there.
I then proceeded to use cmd in admin mode and use the bcdedit commands to add the information myself....
Adding & Mixing RAM
Mar 23, 2008I want to add more RAM. I'm not sure how it all works.. on Circuitcity.com you can enter ur exact comp model number and it finds what ur computer needs.. so I've done that and have decided to get Kingston or the ACP-EP, both are 1GB DDR2, but both are PC2-5300 (667MHz).. Thats what it said to get online.. so my question is:
1. is it ok to mix different brands of RAM,
2. I'm Running Dual Channel, with two 512 Cards is it bad to mix a different kind, size, and speed in the 3rd slot... will it change how the Dual Channel works... I'm not sure how all the RAM stuff works.

Mar 30, 2009I'd like to do is take a Hard drive out of my old computer (which has a bad MB) and throw it in my new computer. The thing is my old HD had XP Home Premium sp3 on it and new one has Vista Home Premium 64 bit. I want to add to that a Maxtor SATA150 250GB ,8 MB 7200 RPM with XP Home Premium 32 bit SP3. Is there still the boot.ini issue since I'm not really "loading" a new OS but sorta Plugin' one in? Will it boot and give an option on which OS to use? Will Vista "see" the other HDD since stuffs already there? I've read so much on this dual-boot stuff now I'm totally lost.

Jan 26, 2010My current C drive has a corrupt system on it (Vista) It needs to be formated and the system reinstalled. I am considering installing a larger capacity drive as the primary (C) drive , install the system on that and use the current drive as extra storage space while keeping some of the data that is currently on it thus not reformatting it. My question is, when the computer boots will it automatically boot to the new C drive or, as the system will now be on both drives, will it confuse itself?
Also. as my system disk is from from the mfr of the computer, I believe it does not have any of the Vista service packs on it. Once formated with this disk should I then get SP1 and SP2 and install them? In that order I presume or will SP2 alone suffice? Where can I get SP1 and 2?
Adding Win DVD 9 To Autoplay Options?
Apr 9, 2009Is there an easy way to add WinDVD9 to my autoplay choices for Blu-Ray and regular DVD's in Vista x64? For some reason its not listed as an option and I can't figure out how to add it on my own. I know I can always cancel autoplay and launch the App and then open the DVD that way but would be nice to figure out how to set it up so it shows as an option in my Autoplay list.

Jan 9, 2009First of all, I built my new PC a couple of days back installed vista ultimate 64 which is all good. The new HD is attached to the mother board via a SATA connection. I removed my old XP drive from the old PC and installed it to the new system also however as its quite old I have had to use the IDE connection on the mother board and set the jumpers to slave. I want to be able to access all my old music, photos etc.
Now Vista picks up the old XP drive through “computer” but when I try to access it, it sates I need to reformat the drive which of course I totally want to avoid!
I made sure the (ribbon type) IDE cable is using the correct (grey) slave connection and also made sure the jumper is set to slave. Apparently there is no need to set anything else to master as I’m using SATA connections. The old drive was also previously operational prior to the new build so I know there are no issues there.
Adding A Computer, Cannot Link
Jun 24, 2008I had successfully setup a network of a desktop running Vista and two laptops running XP. One of the laptops "died" and we replaced it with another running Vista.
Try as I might, following all the instructions I can find, I cannot link this new laptop. Should I just abandon the old network and start fresh?
Support Ultimate SP1 For Adding LIP
Mar 26, 2008Just this message to say that we don't find qualified people at Microsoft in Switzerland and in France Support to answer to the following question: Which product is qualified to install Multi-language pack? We don't find any information saying there many kind of software of Vista Ultimate release.
We just have the windows vista ultimate with sp1 included. And the problem that is the second product we bought and we can't return. Swiss support don't answer and is unpolite and do close the phone. France support can't do commercial activities in Switzerland.
