i go to this branch: hklm/system/currentcontrolset/control/session manager/memory management and changed the value of ClearPageFileAtShutdown to 0 but sometimes after several times of reboot, i got the value back to 1 unauthorized.
View 4 Replies View RelatedRe: Vista Ultimate 64x SP2 I searched & failed to find a .docx file I had created & saved the prior 24 hours. My search found that a shortcut for the file still existed. I opened restore to find either a shadow or other backup copy. I got a Vista popup message notifying: "This machine has been restored from a Complete PC Backup..... some file backups might not be available . . you can still restore them in Advanced Restore by . . .etc."
Previously -I had never had the extreme displeasure of reading such a Vista notice - and I had performed only one complete PC restore several months ago. I, fortunately, did find the missing file using Vista restore. However, I was unable to find any log or record of any prior complete PC restores in order to reassure myself that the latter described Vista popup message was not referring to a recent Complete PC Restore that I certainly did not intentionally or consciously execute.
I am left with troubling questions: What other files, if any, are missing that I am not aware of? How can I compare my system with backups to find/verify the presence or absence of possible missing files? Is it possible for a user to trigger a Complete PC Restore without being aware of the event? Is there a Vista log or record that lists the dates of Complete PC Backups? (I found nothing using Vista 'Help and Support') What are the common mistakes an experienced user can make (excluding the execution of a specific file deletion) that will result in unintended file deletions?
a friend of mine has a copy of vista ultimate which says on the box Made in Purto Rico. Does it make any difference whether it's made in PR or in the USA? Please someone let me know ASAP since he's looking to sell it ASAP.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've been using the MS Bluetooth Notebook 5000 mouse with my HP notebook that has a built-in bluetooth transmitter. Though the automatic discovery never worked between the two but after manually adding the mouse after each bootup, the mouse worked fine before the SP2 upgrade. Since then the mouse doesn't show up in the paring window at all.
View 9 Replies View Relatedwhen i made a new account i put it as a standard user and when i went to that user to set it up i was just a blue screen and i could see the mouse and move it around and when i hit ctrl-alt-delete the little list would come up and when it clicked on task manager it would come up and nothing was running in the applications so i clicked on new task and typed in winver because that is the only task i can remember and it came up any you could see the information or the computer.
so i logged off the user and went back to my account (wich it the admin) and set the new user as an administrator and then i logged back on to the account and the screen came up and you could do everything. I thought it was a one time thing so i went back and put it back on standard and tried it again and the same thing happend. i have tried it atleast five times but nothing has happend. i do not know what to do but leave it on administrator but i dont want that account on admin.
When I burn a DVD using windows movie maker on windows vista, the dvd will only play on the computer it was made on. It will not work on any other computer or DVD player. Any ideas why not? Don't have this problem when making a movie using movie maker on computer with windows XP.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI had to rebuild my workstation. I performed a backup, but not a system recovery. Just want my files. It backed up all my files, but when I try to restore them using the restore client, it only shows a small subset of the files I had under my user directory. However, if I look at the ext. disk I backed them up to, I see hundreds of zip files. If I look into those files, I see all my missing files. How come I cannot see all these files in my restore client? Is there a way to fix this? P.S. I have taken ownership of these files using my new account.

I installed/finished the 32 bit version just last week, and now i keep getting a pop up telling me I need to activate windows and change my cd key. I originally bought ultimate a year ago. how ever I do not want to go out and spend another 300$. the windows website tells me I can buy another key ( I assume for less) but everytime I plug in my CD key, I am told that the copy of windows i have is a server copy.

I am using windows live and need to change my password. I know how to do it but when i go to properties and servers and change it, it doesn't work. I still can only log in with the old password. Someone else has access to my emails so just locking my computer is not an option because they can access my emails from their computer. So annoying! Outlook express was so much better than live mail.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy Windows Explorer has had the most annoying set of attributes, ever since I got Vista and I can't find a way to change them. When I open a folder, the files always want to default to a large icon view with a preview screen. I change them by customizing the folder and they sometimes change back. Some folders aren't customizable at all. Every folder is defaulted to be a pictures folder, but I want all folders to be just files.
If I want a pictures folder, of which I only have a few, I should be able to set only those folders as pictures. The windows folders don't need a Rating column or a Date Taken column. I want the details. My C: drive and Windows folder views are unchangeable other than manually setting the columns on and off. Then they change right back. Where can I change the default view of all folders?
i'm having a problem with windows update. It's not an error of some kind, but it appears as if it is set on never cheking for updates and even when i change the settings nothing happens. and when i push "check for updates" it says that it's not possible to check for updates cause the service is not running.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI cannot use or change the settings of Windows Update in any way. I've tried reinstalling the Windows Update Agent, but nothing changes. I have found no way of uninstalling it either. This alone is not the biggest problem, but the program has set itself to default and downloads hundreds of MB's of useless updates daily, which forces me to wait 30 minutes before the laptop turns on, and another 10 minutes of "reverting changes" because they "were not configured properly". Is there any way to fix this besides reformatting or reinstalling the OS? Install missing files? Somehow disable the agent? Uninstall it?
I want to change the settings of Windows explorer to open in a specific folder. I can do this for the shortcut under Programs>Accessories> Windows Explorer. But doing so does not affect the settings of Windows Explorer when I invoke it with the keyboard shortcut : "Windows-Key + E"

Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Microsoft > Internet Explorer > Settings > I modified Always Use My Font Size from (1) to (0). Initially, I was doing my searching using the entire computer and it literally took hours. Since I knew that searching KEY_CURRENT_USERS was a waste of time (you had already suggested deleting Windows Mail), I only searched for key words using LOCAL MACHINE. This allowed me to shorten search times to a reasonalbe amount.

It's as if I pressed "alt+tab" at the same time as selecting "print." I don't know how to stop this switching and stay inside Windows Mail. This only happens when I print from Windows Mail. When I changed it back, the Send/Receive window that shows incoming and outgoing mail popped up far to the left of the Windows Mail window, instead of right above it where it has always been. I re-started the computer, but that did not fix the problem. I want to get the Send/Receive window to pop up where it used to--it is currently nconvenient for viewing.
