Mar 10, 2009I have Window Vista Home Premium SP 1 64-bit operating system IE 7 I have a Canon Pixma MP500 that was purchased in 2006, and it will not download on my computer. I went to canon website and downloaded the driver and then put in the old CD and did what it said and it said something like this is not for 64-bit OS. Now I am not a computer wizard so I have a lot to learn.

Nov 30, 2007I kept BSOD'ing due to the patch required to use 4gb of ram to use/install vista (seriously, wtf?). I got my machine up and running. I went from vista hp x86 to hp x64. So my question is this (little backstory): Way back when (3 days agho) I had this setup.My ram would get a rating of 5.6, 5.9 when overclocked. I changed out my ram for g-skill 2x4gb sticks (5-5-5-15), but when one was defective i put my old patriot ram back in (along with a NEW asus-p5ne mobo since my other one died), reinstalled vista x86 and the ram suddenly now gets rated as a 5.1 Fast forward to today. With the 2 gb of RAM (the same 2 sticks that got a 5.6). get rated at a 5.1 again in vista x64. when i added the additional 2gb, i get a 5.3. Now before anyone asks, YES I: changed the timings in the bios to 4-4-4-12 and adjusted the memory to proper voltage (2.2). So FINALLY the question is this --- what would cause a drop in the RAM rating? I know its NOT the motherboard since it got hte same rating on both my p5ne-sli and this new abit board.

Feb 10, 2009I just built a new machine:I ran the experience index test, and I got 1.9 on the Aero performance index and 1.0 on the 3D Graphics Performance index. This is the report that I got from Vista:

This graphics card should be more than fine to run pretty much anything, especially Aero, but with this rating I don't seem to be able to enable it.
Windows Experience Index Rating
Apr 18, 2008My "Graphics" and "Gaming Graphics" ratings are both 1.0. What do I need to do to increase them? I also get a warning message when trying to play any games that reads: "Hardware acceleration is either disabled or not supported by your video card driver, which could slow game performance. Make sure you have the latest
video card driver installed and that hardware acceleration is turned on." How do I check the video card driver and where do I go to download the latest version?

Mar 23, 2008I have purchased a new computer with Intel Dual Core 1.6 GHz, 256 MB Nvidia card, 1 GB RAM, 250 GB SATA HDD. My rating index is shown as 3.0 even though I have updated it several times. Also, available physical memory is also shown just above 300 MB. Is anything needs to be updated, I am unable to understand what is going wrong here.

Old Scanner - No Vista Driver
Apr 18, 2008Had to upgrade to a new PC, and most every new PC comes with Vista pre-installed, no options for XP. I try hooking up my 2 year old scanner - no Vista driver. I try hooking up a webcam a friend gave me - no Vista driver. So the whole purpose of upgrading to Vista was so I could go out and buy all new hardware!! This will be my last PC with a microsoft OS.

Aug 12, 2008I wanted to remove my NVIDIA old drivers(175.19) and replace it with 177.79. Used DriverSweeper 1.5.5, and this lovely program caused me nothing but headaches. Anyways, after this I installed 177.79(I think I was supposed to reboot, yes?) Now I can't even install any video driver(except for what Vista did automatically, but they are not the newest ones). On top of this NVIDIA driver 177.79 tells me I am using a 32bit OS?? I can assure you I am using 64 bit. I have attached some screenshots.

Mar 23, 2008I'm very illiterate when it comes to computers. I got a Gateway laptop with Windows Vista included. The first time I started playing with it, games and such, I had sound but I stupidly put in the CD that came with the computer that apparently is only for reinstalling. Now I have no sound. I went to the Gateway download site and downloaded a driver that said it was compatible to my computer but it doesn't work. The little speaker at the bottom right shows a red X but my control panel area shows that it is working properly.

Mar 30, 2008I recently purchased a HP C4180 All-in-One printer for use on my Vista home Premium 32-bits laptop. But I don't succeed in installing the printer. Everytime that I have to plug in the USB-cable, Vista recognizes the printer model, but doesn't find the drivers. I've already concacted the HP customer center, and many people tried to help me, but without succes. At last, I tried to install the printer on our XP-computer, and this worked very well, without problems.
I have to say that these drivers were installed with the XP-installation disk of HP. The other cd that came with my printer was a vista-drivers cd. At last, one of the people who helped me, said it could be a problem with the USB-cable. The length was alright (1.80 meters), and it worked on XP, but they said that Vista is more sensitive for different cables... I use this cable for my Maxtor hard drive too, on this laptop, without any problem caused by Vista.
Hard Driver Partition RAID

Mar 23, 2008I have a wierd issue with Vista. At the moment I have 3 hard drives and one DVD That I am trying to use. Sometimes Vista actually reads the drive and I was able to format and save items to the number 3 500GB drive but when I reboot Vista forgets it. There is always an item in device manager that says unknown device on volume manager and no matter what I do it will not install drivers for this. Does Vista have a problem with high GB drives or with more than 2 hard drives? Would seem odd especially since I've had more on older versions and I do have a 100% genuine ultimate version.
Any time I try to do anything in Disk management it says the information is out of date and will not go any further. I've tried multiple ways of getting the drive to install but no matter what I do it's a roll of the dice if Windows will recognise it or not. My hard drive setup is Seagate 320 GB for C(Windows), 400GB for programs and a 500GB Maxtor That I'm trying to install mainly as a backup. I'm running a 3.4 dual core Intel CPU with 4GB of ram and crossfire enabled Video cards. I've tried diffrent controllers as I have 2 diffrent SATA onbard controllers and even tried a 3rd pci controller.
Ext HD Triggers New Device, Can't Load A Driver
Mar 23, 2008I have had recent problems installing external hd's on Vista 64. I have run into problems with USB2.0 as well as eSATA. The drive will appear under the device manager under "disk drives". But it triggers the new harware wizard, which can't load a driver, which leads to an unknown device being listed. Even when the unknown device is listed the drive still appears under "disk drives".
The drive will appear under disk manager, but it is unaccesable. You can remove the partition but can not change the drive letters or format or create a new partition through the wizard. The wizard will go through the motions and then the Drive manager has a message asking to refresh or restart the console which has no effect...............
