When opening a folder that contains Media files in Vista 64 a special "Rating" coloumn appears that seems to be adjustable allowing you to rate files from 1-5.How do you change the star rating?
View 6 RepliesI kept BSOD'ing due to the patch required to use 4gb of ram to use/install vista (seriously, wtf?). I got my machine up and running. I went from vista hp x86 to hp x64. So my question is this (little backstory): Way back when (3 days agho) I had this setup.My ram would get a rating of 5.6, 5.9 when overclocked. I changed out my ram for g-skill 2x4gb sticks (5-5-5-15), but when one was defective i put my old patriot ram back in (along with a NEW asus-p5ne mobo since my other one died), reinstalled vista x86 and the ram suddenly now gets rated as a 5.1 Fast forward to today. With the 2 gb of RAM (the same 2 sticks that got a 5.6). get rated at a 5.1 again in vista x64. when i added the additional 2gb, i get a 5.3. Now before anyone asks, YES I: changed the timings in the bios to 4-4-4-12 and adjusted the memory to proper voltage (2.2). So FINALLY the question is this --- what would cause a drop in the RAM rating? I know its NOT the motherboard since it got hte same rating on both my p5ne-sli and this new abit board.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just built a new machine:I ran the experience index test, and I got 1.9 on the Aero performance index and 1.0 on the 3D Graphics Performance index. This is the report that I got from Vista:

This graphics card should be more than fine to run pretty much anything, especially Aero, but with this rating I don't seem to be able to enable it.
My "Graphics" and "Gaming Graphics" ratings are both 1.0. What do I need to do to increase them? I also get a warning message when trying to play any games that reads: "Hardware acceleration is either disabled or not supported by your video card driver, which could slow game performance. Make sure you have the latest
video card driver installed and that hardware acceleration is turned on." How do I check the video card driver and where do I go to download the latest version?
I just bought a new PC and ran the windows experience index rating and received a 3.0 for the graphics part.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have purchased a new computer with Intel Dual Core 1.6 GHz, 256 MB Nvidia card, 1 GB RAM, 250 GB SATA HDD. My rating index is shown as 3.0 even though I have updated it several times. Also, available physical memory is also shown just above 300 MB. Is anything needs to be updated, I am unable to understand what is going wrong here.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Samsung DVD/CD drive which is tempermental and I do not think it is the DVDRW but Vista. This is because it was working fine when I did a Vista clean install (yesterday) and Vista has behaved strangely by creating a Floppy Disk Drive a: when I last logged in and I do not have one fitted? When I load a CD/DVD into the drive the 'normal' wurrring noise and light flash but then they time out. If I try and access it through explorer it says load a disk?

Let it be known. This is for the FIRST game. Not the second. When I start the game this happens. I restarted, tried it again. Same Error. I uninstalled it. Restarted. Installed under Win XP Service Pack. Same Error. I made sure the exe is under the Win XP Service Pack. Same Error. I even tried the "change the mss32.dll in the directory." Same Error. I did the built-in system scan in the game configure. It's not the best but it should still play.

So, installed SP2 and now the Windows Live Messenger will not start. All the other apps from Live work, but Messenger refuses. Anyone else found this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell XPS M1710 notebook and just yesterday it started throwing bad fits at me. First of all, if I start my computer without an external monitor, the screen just blurrs completely and I have to shut it down. With the monitor, nothing happens, but I dont think its a laptop any more if it does this thing. That partially fixed, I too have the SVCHOST problem. I used the svchost analyzer and Security Task Manager, but all they show me is that I have around 7 Svchost processes and they only use 10-15% of CPU. Its very peculiar because I NEVER had this before and I have my laptop for around 3 years. Checked all instances, every svchost is in the Windows System folder, so I ruled out a svchost virus. However, even when I shut down almost everything else, still 90-100% CPU. I just cant understand it.

But when I run it gets fun: I get a black screen, I can see my cursor and hear the sound. But I don't see the menu And when I click on something it shuts down the game. I also tried to run it in compatibility mode but that doesn't work either. I also tried to change the resolution but that doesn't help anything.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have recently installed software called 'Tune Up Utilites 2010' and immediately found a vast improvement and one its recommendations was to increase resolution to 1680 x 1050. Having then done that in 'Display Properties' it then advises to 'Set dpi to 96'.
However, I cannot find how to make changes to dpi.
I am new here and not sure if I am posting this in the correct area but I could not find a catagory that fits my question. If anyone can tell me a better place to post this, that would be great. I have set my account's name to my desired name but when I go to the Users folder it still lists my user account as the default name. Is there any way to change this?
