Change A Drive Icon
Feb 25, 2009When I open up my computer one of the drive letters (E in the right pane has a 3DHA (3D Home Architect) icon in place of what should be a regular drive icon. I guess when I was test installing 3DHA, it somehow messed up that drive icon, though I have no idea why, but their web site offers no help. I've since removed the software but nothing I've tried will allow me to change the icon back to a regular drive icon. I prefer not to download a 3rd party program unless I have to. I've come across a few sites that offered some tips but everthing I've tried only changes the icon in the left pane. In fact the properties for the drive letter in the right pane don't even have a change icon button, anywhere.

1. Delete the icon and create a new one. No change.
2. Change icon in properties. No change the new one appears with the covering.
3. System Restore to an earlier point. No change all the desktop icons are covered over.

Jul 11, 2009When you dump things in your recycle the icon changes to a pic of a full bin (as we all know) well mine doesnt , not until after a reeboot then it shows as having contents.
if i put something in my bin now , it will go into the bin , i can open the bin and its there to be recycled but the icon wont change , if i dont empty the bin upon next reboot the bin will show as having contents so im assuming its not the icon cache thats screwed up (i have rebuilt it just incase and ive checked the correct icons are selected)...

So I noticed that the printer icon for my printer became all white, IE a corrupted icon. So I went online and found information on how to refresh your icon folder. That didn't do anything. So I thought I'd uninstall and reinstall.
I have tried to reinstall my HP software from disc, and I get a 'new PSSWCORE.msi' file. I see the file on the install disc, yet it won't install. 'Network resource is unavailable.'
Now I cannot uninstall it. On my Add/Remove I see:
HP Customer Participation Program 9.0
HP All In One Software 9.0
HP Imaging device Functions 9.0
HP On-Screen Cap/Num/Scroll Lock Indicator
HP Photosmart Essential
HP Update
How can I get these off my PC, and reinstall cleanly so I can use my rinter/scanner again?
Start Menu Icon But Displays A Generic Icon
Apr 19, 2008I installed new software and pinned the executable to the start menu. But, Vista displays a generic icon in the start menu for this program. All other programs pinned to the start menu display the correct icon. Any way to get Vista to dispaly the proper icon for this program??

Jun 10, 2009Here's a problem that started around a week ago.
I have Windows Vista Home Premium
At startup, everything loads fine. The desktop and all my icons are there.
However, there is a red X over my network icon on the task bar.
I have to wait at least three minutes for the x to disappear before I can access the Internet.
I talked to my ISP provider and they reset my router. The problem still exists. The provider said the problem is on my end, not theirs.
I tried everything I could think of including cleaning and editing the registry and the problem persists.

Dec 23, 2009My pc was working fine after the updates that i did the otherday and it got powered off manually from my friend today and I went to turn it on today and it comes to the loading bar and doesnt show the vista icon its a black page with the green bars loading with microsoft corp underneath them. Mar 23, 2008I accidentally deleted my desktop file and it asked me something about duplication. My fingers moved to fast and i agreed. Now I have two of the same icons on my desktop. When I try to delete one of the icons, either they will both go away or one will stay there and not work. Sometimes I can get it to only have 1 icons but once I install a new program, it will double the icons again. I added a desktop file again to "user" file and there is also a "Public Desktop" in the public file. This is very annoying and I would like to be able to put icons on my desktop without the duplication. How do I fix this? This situation is really hard to explain so I hope someone will have an idea of how to fix it besides reinstalling windows.

After a while, for no apparent reason, the "large" desktop icons setting produces some smaller ones also. Specifically it seems to be web short cuts. Jun 26, 2009I'm running Vista home premium and IE8. I connect to the internet with dial-up. When I'm connected the computer icon in the task bar has a red X on it. If I place the cursor on the icon it says "not Connected". If I right click on the icon and select connect to network the window comes up and shows my connection and states that I'm connected with the option button to disconnect. Why does my system think I'm not connected. Also before when I would close IE I would receive a window asking if I want to disconnect. I no longer get that window either. Having dial-up this is a pain do to the phone line being tied up and sometimes not knowing it.

Dec 8, 2008From time to time, when I go to the Control Panel (for example), my icons will be really big, other times, they will be small, some other times, they will be in Detail mode... why is that? Just yesterday I went to the control panel to uninstall something and the icons were in like medium icon view, today the whole page looks weird (kinda like XP view)... see for yourself in the ICONS 01 image. Usually, the view I have for almost everything is in ICONS 02 image. Why is this happening and how do I make it stop or at least, set it to how I want it? It is driving me mad because it feels like a virus/worm is doing this... I hate to think I have a ghost on my rig.
