Recycle Bin Icon Doesn't Change To Full After Deleting Items
Jul 11, 2009
When you dump things in your recycle the icon changes to a pic of a full bin (as we all know) well mine doesnt , not until after a reeboot then it shows as having contents.
if i put something in my bin now , it will go into the bin , i can open the bin and its there to be recycled but the icon wont change , if i dont empty the bin upon next reboot the bin will show as having contents so im assuming its not the icon cache thats screwed up (i have rebuilt it just incase and ive checked the correct icons are selected)...

I have Windows Vista. Whenever I delete something, whether by just selecting it and pressing the delete key, selecting it and right-clicking and selecting Delete, or by dragging an item to the Recycle Bin, it asks me if I want to permanently delete the item. I usually say no because I don't want to. I want it to go to the Recycle Bin. But there are no options to send it there. I created a couple test files so that I could see what happens if I say Yes, and sure enough they do not go to the Recycle Bin, they are permanently deleted. I DO NOT have the setting to delete without sending something to the Recycle Bin checked. I have made sure of this numerous times.

Somehow when I was wiping off my keyboard I must have renamed my recycle bin (you know how that stuff happens) ... so I saw that it was numbered. I renamed it Recycle Bin like it should be. Well when I go into Personalization 1 full ... They are both named Recycle Bin and they have (empty) and (full) underneath the correct ones. The problem is that when I empty the recycle bin depending on which one is on my desktop, it doesn't change ... in other words .... it doesn't matter if I have the empty or full one on my desktop ... if I put something in it and *empty recycle* bin, it doesn't change to empty or vice versa. In short lol ... what did I do and how do I restore them? I tried to hit *restore icon* and that didn't work. This is making me nuts ...

my Recycle Bin does not update its icon status, i.e. when I delete something I always have to press F5 to "refresh" the icons to get the correct icon of the "full" bin displayed; and when I empty the recycle bin, the same thing happens. What seems to be the problem here? Is there a icon cache file somewhere that I have to delete?

I deleted something and could not find it in the recycle bin, and it shows 3 items in there, but when I empty the recycle bin, it said 6 item deleted. So I guess my recycle bin is not displaying all the item?

I have just bought a new pc with Vista Home Premium x64. Problem is that the recycle bin won't show deleted items. The bin just looks empty. If I click on empty recycle bin it prompts me if I want to delete these 16 (or whatever number) items, so they must be there but will not display. I have tried displaying hidden files and checked in recycle bin properties that files are not deleted rather than placed in the bin to no avail. If I click restore items nothing happens.

My recycle bin is full!!! I didn't do it, I don't even know what some of the stuff is. A ton of stuff was put in it on June 19 and I wasn't even home then. In fact, there are a couple things in there that were in my documents (lists of medications, etc.) that I know I didn't put in there.

When I delete a file the icon of the bin doesn't show me that the bin is full, as it used to show. Also at the specific moment the "empty recycle bin" command is gray and doesn't give me the option to empty the bin. When I right click and "open" the bin, automatically the icon becomes full again!
I wonder why this is happening! It is the first time as a long time user that I face such a weird problem.
I have to tell that I checked my pc for virus, malware and ad-ware and it is clean.

I could not possibly delete the Recycle Bin icon from screen because there was no "delete" option. Now, two friends contacted me frantically because they could not find the icon...obviously, they had right-clicked and then clicked the "delete" option instead of "empty" option.

I was trying to de-clutter my desktop and I got too happy. I accidentally deleted my recycle bin icon that sits on the desktop.
My question--is there any way I can get that back, or is it just gone?

I purchase a new PC with Vista Home Premium from BestBuy and had them install a graphics card. Well, evidently, they did the basic boot up and check up stuff. Now, everytime I install new software, the software grabs my name suggestion as being "owner" and my company "Hewlett Packard". Microsoft Office, Visual Studio 2008, everything. Of course, all I have to do is type in my correct name, but it is very aggravating. The name on my user account is "Bill" (I changed it when I got the computer home) but I cannot find where to change my default full name and company. It is NOT in Control Panel > User Accounts. Seems like this was easy to do in XP.

In the system tray in Windows XP there was a modem icon that lighted up when data was being transmitted or received. It really helped with a dialup connection - being able to see if the connection was active or not. In Vista, the modem icon is static and doesn't show anything other than the fact that there is an active connection. Does anyone know of a workaround to get an **activity** icon that works like the good old XP one?

When I go to "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" and click on the "Notification Area" Tab I see that under "System Icons" that the only one I can check is the Clock; all the others are grayed out and I can't check them, however, I had a Sound Icon in my Taskbar previously that has for some odd reason simply disappeared, and since I can't check on it here, I can't seem to get it back in my Taskbar no matter where I look on the computer. How can I restore this option so that I have a Sound Icon in my Taskbar again, and are the other two features--Network and Power, a problem being that they too are grayed out?

When I open up my computer one of the drive letters (E in the right pane has a 3DHA (3D Home Architect) icon in place of what should be a regular drive icon. I guess when I was test installing 3DHA, it somehow messed up that drive icon, though I have no idea why, but their web site offers no help. I've since removed the software but nothing I've tried will allow me to change the icon back to a regular drive icon. I prefer not to download a 3rd party program unless I have to. I've come across a few sites that offered some tips but everthing I've tried only changes the icon in the left pane. In fact the properties for the drive letter in the right pane don't even have a change icon button, anywhere.

My desktop shortcuts with the program Icons have a white/windows shield over them. I can see the actual Icon behind the white. This occurred after I uninstalled an Adobe program Photoshop Elements 8.0 What I have tried:
1. Delete the icon and create a new one. No change.
2. Change icon in properties. No change the new one appears with the covering.
3. System Restore to an earlier point. No change all the desktop icons are covered over.
