Cannot Empty Recycle Bin .tried Everything.
Nov 1, 2009Recycle bin tried everything. Pretty much says it all can't empty recycle bin tried everything I could find on the forum and nothing helps takes forever sometimes won't work at all.started deleting recycle bin at 4 pm is now 6 pm still calculating time remaining tried different things with command prompt nothing worked turned off a wimdows feature remote differential compression did not help anyone have anything like this?

May 15, 2010The "empty recycle bin" button does not work any more. So also with a refresh, my deleted files are still visible. The other buttons (like "restore all items" works fine) If I select the files and press delete, than my files will be deleted from the recycle bin (So I can delete from the recycle bin).

What I want to do is to be able to right-click anywhere...in any folder, on the desktop, etc. and have the option of emptying my recycle bin. I had a registry tweak in XP and I tried it in Vista just to see if it would work, but no good. I know it can be done via a registry setting but I'm not too familiar with Vista's system registry locations yet.

Jan 29, 2010I have a nit problem that has followed me from XP and maybe earlier. When I install an OS, I normally have the swap on a drive other than the OS. This seems to confuse the recycle bin in that if I delete something, it will not show until I reboot. When it then shows full, and I empty the bin, it still shows full. I deleted the cache (came back exact same size) and deleted the bins on the 2 raid sets and the sata drive. They reappeared but the desktop bin has the same behavior. More a pita than a major issue. BTW, 20GB memory, so deleted the swap, Ideas?

Oct 8, 2008I have just bought a new pc with Vista Home Premium x64. Problem is that the recycle bin won't show deleted items. The bin just looks empty. If I click on empty recycle bin it prompts me if I want to delete these 16 (or whatever number) items, so they must be there but will not display. I have tried displaying hidden files and checked in recycle bin properties that files are not deleted rather than placed in the bin to no avail. If I click restore items nothing happens.

Mar 23, 2008Somehow when I was wiping off my keyboard I must have renamed my recycle bin (you know how that stuff happens) ... so I saw that it was numbered. I renamed it Recycle Bin like it should be. Well when I go into Personalization 1 full ... They are both named Recycle Bin and they have (empty) and (full) underneath the correct ones. The problem is that when I empty the recycle bin depending on which one is on my desktop, it doesn't change ... in other words .... it doesn't matter if I have the empty or full one on my desktop ... if I put something in it and *empty recycle* bin, it doesn't change to empty or vice versa. In short lol ... what did I do and how do I restore them? I tried to hit *restore icon* and that didn't work. This is making me nuts ...

Jun 16, 2008Not the confirmation for deleting files, I mean EMPTYing the recycle bin. Those files are which were deleted once already, I don't want (or need) to click [OK] for everytime emptying the Recycle Bin.
Besides, the Recycle bin is at the left top corner of the screen but the confirmation dialog always pops up at the center of the screen. If I accidentally miss the confirmation box, all icons on the desktop becomes unclickable (looks like a modal window to the desktop).
Is there ANY way to disable the EMPTYing comfirmation? Again, not the confirmation for deleting files.
"Empty Recycle Bin" Option Grayed Out
Apr 14, 2009Don't know how this happened but I deleted a coulple of files from my Documents Folder (Documents, Music, Pictures, Recently changed, etc.), and the whole Folder ended up in the Recycle Bin. I now have an exact duplication of my whole folder in the Recycle Bin. If I delete a file from the copy in the Bin, it deletes it from the Folder on my desktop. The "Empty recycle Bin" option is grayed out. How do I get rid of this duplication? It's taking up about 3 GB of my hard drive so obviously I have somehow copied all my files to the recycle bin.

Jul 11, 2009When you dump things in your recycle the icon changes to a pic of a full bin (as we all know) well mine doesnt , not until after a reeboot then it shows as having contents.
if i put something in my bin now , it will go into the bin , i can open the bin and its there to be recycled but the icon wont change , if i dont empty the bin upon next reboot the bin will show as having contents so im assuming its not the icon cache thats screwed up (i have rebuilt it just incase and ive checked the correct icons are selected)...

Dec 31, 2009I have an HP dv6500 laptop running Vista Home Premium. Suddenly the CD ROM has quit working. It doesn't show on My Computer and at one time I got an error 39. I had Vista check the drivers and it said they were good. I'm only good enough on the computer to follow explicit instructions. When I put a CD in the drive the light will come on like it's reading but then goes off and it does nothing.

Can the Premium version be used to do a presentation? Or do I need a program like Power Point. My other interest in Premium is the ability to save slide shows to DVD. Basic doesn't have that feature.

Attempt to resume again? And then I have two choices; continue with system restore, or delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu. The second choice is the only one that works. Jun 25, 2008Yesterday I removed my ATI Radeon X800Pro card because it caused graphics issues. I rebooted the computer and it automatically switched to the nvidia GeForce 6100 GPU onboard graphics. It had a fairly updated Windows driver installed for it. I went to nvidia to download the newest driver. During the installation of that driver, the screen went blank. I waited 5 minutes and nothing happened. I restarted my pc and now it doesn't show the Vista log-in screen anymore. All I get is that little green bar on the bottom and then the screen turns black. All I can see is a tiny little green strip (of the log-in page) on the top of my screen. How can I fix that? I still got XP, which I am using right now. I tried to boot Vista in Safe mode but it got stuck while it was loading the drivers...

It really helped with a dialup connection - being able to see if the connection was active or not. In Vista, the modem icon is static and doesn't show anything other than the fact that there is an active connection. Mar 23, 2008I use the Pictures folder alot on my Vista based computer, and recently I was sorting through some of the pictures, deciding which ones to keep and which to delete. Most of these I have copied from my digital camera, and some I have downloaded from the web. Well, after having gone through them all, there is at least one in particular that I cannot seem to delete. I don't want it to just be sent to the Recycle Bin, but completely erased from the computer. I have discounted any viruses or spyware, and checked all my 'Folder' settings, but nothing I can think of to do will remove this file from the folder. It also does not actually show up in normal viewing, only if i do a search using special variables. It only shows up if I type, "*.jpg" into the search bar when I am viewing the directory. I can't however do anything with the file. I can't move it, I can't rename it, and while it shows a thumbnail image of the photo, when I click on it to open it, the picture viewer shows no photo-representation. I also can't replace it with another file with the same exact name. How do I permanently remove this one file? And how did it get to the point of being undeletable. File properties do not show that it is 'hidden' or 'read only'.

May 22, 2009Just copied some new jpgs from my card reader to a folder full of jpgs from the same card, same camera, same card reader - and they show up as the Photoshop icon instead of picture preview. ALL other pictures in the folder show the picture preview. The card reader folder shows the pictures too! Opened a picture and edited it in Photoshop then saved it as a jpg with a new name and IT doesn't show the picture preview. I cleared the thumbnail cache - no joy. Maddening! Running 64 bit Vista on a Pemium HDX HP laptop. I apologize if this has been covered in here somewhere before but I couldn't find anything (other than clearing the thumbnail cache, but that was a bust). when opening the folder for the first time after a reboot, the picture previews flash for a nanosecond then revert to the Photoshop icon.

I don't know where the drivers are though, should I try repair without any, find them (with your help if you know where they are) or install Vista again (will all my files still be there?)
