I am trying to attach tags to my email contacts in my contacts folder.i opened my contacts folder --> opened a contact file--> opened properties-->opened details-->and i could not delete,add,or change any items.No tag option appeared,so,i was intending to add one.the help appeared clear.
View 4 Repliesi runned some optimization programs on my vista system, and i think it changed something in the registry. Now, when i delete an item from recent items list on startup menu (right click -> delete), it displays "are you sure you want to move this item to the recycle bin? ". by clicking "yes", it moves the corresponding shortcut of this item into recycle bin.
before i runned this optimation, when i delete an item from recent items list, there is no this delete confirmation dialog, and it removes this item from recent items list without moving the shortcut to recycle bin. (for regular file delete operations, it asks for this confirmation and move files to recycle bin as usual. the only difference is about the deletion on recent items list.) is there a way to fix this problem? i don't want this delete confirmation dialog because i am only deleting a shortcut (not the exact file.)
cannot delete email from Deleted Items. After clicking Yes to the "are you sure prompt" , a box comes up saying "An unknown error has occurred."
View 9 Replies View RelatedI know there are many threads on the above and have tried downloading the KB041090 fix. I do use 32bit Vista Home s/ware. However, it says that this programme fix is not applicable to my system....so I also tried the 64bit patch and this gave me the same response. Everything was running just fine until about a week ago....
I do use Norton Antivirus, but it expired about a week ago and I have reinstalled it today - neither action seems to have made a difference to the fix issue. I currently have about 200 e-mails that I could do with getting rid of...
1. I lost almost all of my contacts for no reason-I need to retrieve them!
2. I cannot delete all the items from my deleted folder. I've tried downloading off support.microsoft.com and when I do it I get a message "the update does not aply to your system".
I have a issue to delete my mail in the delete folder. I clicked on Edit then on 'delete items...' But nothing happens. It is one heck of a task to delete one by one Need to delete all at once.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen you dump things in your recycle the icon changes to a pic of a full bin (as we all know) well mine doesnt , not until after a reeboot then it shows as having contents.
if i put something in my bin now , it will go into the bin , i can open the bin and its there to be recycled but the icon wont change , if i dont empty the bin upon next reboot the bin will show as having contents so im assuming its not the icon cache thats screwed up (i have rebuilt it just incase and ive checked the correct icons are selected)...
how to change the default setting of the Recent Items on the Start menu from alphabetical to date order in Vista Home Premium. I did it on my desktop a year ago- I seem to recall it was a Registry change- but on my laptop I'm stuck with the useless alphabetical order.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy desktop shortcuts with the program Icons have a white/windows shield over them. I can see the actual Icon behind the white. This occurred after I uninstalled an Adobe program Photoshop Elements 8.0 What I have tried:
1. Delete the icon and create a new one. No change.
2. Change icon in properties. No change the new one appears with the covering.
3. System Restore to an earlier point. No change all the desktop icons are covered over.
I think this is now getting a common problem but microsoft havn't solved it (unless you know different?) I cannot change, rename or delete folders and now the recycle bin won't empty! (The recycle bin issue is more recent) Explorer hangs when i try to alter or add new folders. I have to use Ctrl, Alt and delete to re-boot explorer and cancel the operation. Once this is done you notice the file has been re-named and or the folder deleted but this is only after the "explorer hanging" has been cleared.

1/ LDIF
I exported my contacts in Thunderbird under an LDIF format.
I then imported this LDIF file within Contacts
The import stops 1/5 of the way, simply saying that there is an error
in the contacts, and it stays stuck
2/ CVS
I exported my contacts in Thunderbird under a CVS file. I then tried to import the file within Contacts but cannot do the mapping:
- all column headings are lumped together, with plenty of ","
- all accentuated caracters are replaced by squares
Also, with the LDIF method, 50 contacts out of 300 were imported. In these imported contacts, all accentuated caracters were replaced by symbols. I opened the CVS file in Microsoft Excel: everything is fine.
I installed Outlook 2003 on my computer which has Vista Ultimate so I could use a Dell Axim. Now when I go to fax a document using Windows Fax and Scan and try to select a contact, Outlook Contacts is displayed instead of Windows Contacts. It won't let me choose to use Windows Contacts either. I tried using Default Programs to associate Windows Contacts with it's defaults but that didn't work.

But when I try to export them to Windows Vista Contacts I loose all information. My outlook 2007 is a trial version and will expire next time I turn it on, so I have to get it done today.

Now, when I delete an email from my "Inbox," it does NOT appear in my "Deleted Items" folder. It just seems to disappear. I did read many of the earlier posts and have tried the suggestions. I've gone to Tools>Options>Advanced>Maintenance - the "Empty messages from the Deleted Items folder on exit" is NOT checked. I've also gone to Current View "Show all messages" - that's identified/checked. Is there something else that I can do? I'd appreciate any suggestions. This is the first time I've used

I have a problem with the Vista program Windows Contacts in conjunction with using email programs. I have Windows Vista Home Premium. I like to use Outlook 2000 as my email program. I have the same problem if I use Windows Mail as my email program. I can use Outlook to send and receive email, but I cannot add any contacts to Windows Contacts. Also when creating a new email, if I click on the To… button to get to Windows Contacts, I get the error message “The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If this problem persists, restart Outlook.”, which of course does not help.
I am not sure, but I think I created the problem by importing Outlooks 2000 contacts from my old PC in an improper format into Outlook 2000 on my new Vista PC (which is where the problem is).
I've attempted to send my old contact list to 'Windows mail' but have not been successful at this point. What am I doing wrong?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got a Vista Premium computer, 64 bit with an AMD Phenom 9100 processor. I'm still not familiar with many of the basic functions in Vista, but I'm pretty good at figuring things out. However, I just installed 2 of my old hard drives from my old computer (which lost its motherboard), and so now I have 3 hard drives. When I was looking at my files in one of the old hard drives, let's call it J:, I found that items had been moved around. They were in a specific order and now things have been moved since opening the HD with Vista. I already tried dragging and dropping the items to put them back in order. Only 1/4 of them are out of order, but when I try to drag and drop, it appears I can drag, but not drop. The file does not move to the new place where I drop it in the same folder. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Does Vista not allow the flexibility of moving contents inside a folder? I really need these items to be put in the correct order. They are not in alphabetical. How do I do this very simple fuction? I will probably have figured it out by the time someone answers this, but then again I haven't yet, so I'm hoping for someone who can tell me how to do this very easy thing.

When I click on it, my new WM Inbox opens instead. My old Sent Itemsfile retained its 221mb size in the move. When I open the WM program and see my Inbox, the old Sent Items aren't showing as folders on the left side.But if I search in the directory path: C driveusersmy nameApplication DateLocalMicrosoftwindows maillocal folderssent items -- it is there full size.
I have placed it there by itself, then dragged and dropped into the other sent
items folder with folder.dbx -- either way, the 221mb of sent items do not
appear.
I have three Web based e-mail accounts. One of them is a good 'Google Mail' account. It is different to the other two accounts in the way that it does not have a 'Deleted Items Folder' as such. What the account contains is:
'Google Mail'
'All Mail'
'Drafts'
'Sent items'
'Spam'
'Starred'
'Trash'
Recently I signed up to a Website to receive their news literature in the form of an e-mail. I have since undersubscribed to the Website so that they may not send me any more of their newsletter e-mails. I have three of their e-mails all in the row in the 'All Mail' folder. I have tried deleting all three of those e-mails and they disappear at first. When I go to another folder and then come back to the 'All Mail' folder, the three e-mails are back again. I have tried to get rid of them many times but every time I go back to this folder, they are come back again..........
All of a sudden I can no longer see my deleted or sent items in Windows Mail. The views on the folders are all set up correctly to show all and I can send and delete OK.
If I right click on the? Sent? folder it tells me the number of items in there which increases by one every time I send a mail? .I just can't see any of the mails. The 'Deleted' folder is even in bold indicating unread messages....if I could see them!
Im running Vista Ultimate x64, which has been working fine for ages, no problems I havnt been able to sort out untill now. For some weird reason the sidebar wont load the gadgets or run the already installed items. Sidebar runs ok but without loading anything. Ive searched the forum and googled it to death but cant find a working solution.
Secondly, Windows Update wont start from the control panel anymore. It seems to do auto updates ok, but cant open it manually. Hoping you good people can point me in the right direction. Neither are major probles, just want to know why this has happened and how to resolve it.
I have right clicked on folder and selected "empty deleted items folder", but am unable to empty it in one click.I have to delete each item one at a time to empty folder,and obviously this takes some time,as the inevitable question " are you sure" appears before I am allowed to do this.Does anyone have the solution?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI got my Vista computer 12 days ago and am trying to transfer stuff from my old XP. I created several "users" for different purposes and imported all my old messages from OE6 with no trouble. After a week I decided I didn't need all those users and now want to consolidate and move the old as well as the newest messages from to one users account to another.
I was doing fine as long as I drug the .eml files into an open Mail folder. But since the old Sent Items folder was very large I tried dragging it (after copying it to the Public area and changing the ownership) directly into the Windows Mail Local Folders area. When I opened up Windows Mail it did in fact show all of my old messages. But it wouldn't open any of them, and worse yet, it won't let me delete the phantom messages. If I drag any the .eml versions of those messages into the folder they show up as duplicates, and those are both readable and deletable. I need to know either how to find and delete the phantom files, or else how to recreate the Sent Items folder.
Have been using Windows Mail on Vista for a week and have had many problems. Latest one which has just occurred is that none of my sent emails are being saved into the "Sent Items" folder. Another probelm is that unless I have already sent a recipient an email WM will not autocomplete their names when I begin typing their address into address box.

I just realise when I needed to check some think and I seen there are no email form March, April and May in my sent items, the rest are there. how can I retrieve them? They are very important.
