My desktop shortcuts with the program Icons have a white/windows shield over them. I can see the actual Icon behind the white. This occurred after I uninstalled an Adobe program Photoshop Elements 8.0 What I have tried:
1. Delete the icon and create a new one. No change.
2. Change icon in properties. No change the new one appears with the covering.
3. System Restore to an earlier point. No change all the desktop icons are covered over.
How do i remove the white space on the start menu?. Everytime i add a shortcut to the start menu it just keeps getting bigger and bigger and it wont file up the empty space.I've tried everythiing in the customize settings and it still wont fix it.
I want to create a "system account" in vista 64 bit Ultimate. It's just a user account, it will have a profile but 99% of the time no one will log in interactively with this account, more often with just the RunAs option.
Once I created this account though, I have another icon for it on the logon screen! How can I get rid of this icon? I don't want other people who use this PC to log on like that.
It's a normal local account, non domain environment. I was hoping to find a "Do not display a logon icon" checkbox where you change the icon pic or something simple.
I just found an Firefox icon on my Desktop that is pointing to one of my online Retirement Accounts that I did not create and have ideas how it got there. If I click it, it brings me to my Fidelity logon screen were it is waiting for me to enter a password. Of course I suspect fowl play but how can I verify Who/What/Why is got there and make sure it gets totally removed.?
My Windows Vista Enterprise has a serious problem. It is unable to find, delete, or create any system restore points. I have not found a way to re-initialize the system restore point process.
When I open up my computer one of the drive letters (E in the right pane has a 3DHA (3D Home Architect) icon in place of what should be a regular drive icon. I guess when I was test installing 3DHA, it somehow messed up that drive icon, though I have no idea why, but their web site offers no help. I've since removed the software but nothing I've tried will allow me to change the icon back to a regular drive icon. I prefer not to download a 3rd party program unless I have to. I've come across a few sites that offered some tips but everthing I've tried only changes the icon in the left pane. In fact the properties for the drive letter in the right pane don't even have a change icon button, anywhere.
I didn't really want to start a new thread, but I'm too busy to look through to find a matching problem. I can't get an Icon to delete off of my desktop. The account is a standard account, so when I try to delete the icon, it asks for permission. So I type in the password and it says it deletes it, but it's still there. So I try to delete it from the Administrator account(which is the built in account), but it says I don't have permission to delete it. It's not a big problem, but it's just somewhat annoying.
I have an icon on my desktop which refuses to get deleted. I have gone looked at various other posts and have tried to follow the steps..unfortunately none of them have helped me get rid of the sticky icon. the file name is RATATO~1.rm and i dont know how it was created.
* deleting in safe mode doesnt help. * tried shedding the file wid mcafee...doesnt work. * deleting from cmd prompt doesnt delete. * have tried to remove the registry entry, there are various entries and am not able to figure out the exact entry.
When i try to delete, the delete program goes into an infinite loop. says " recycling 1 item..calculating time remaining" and gets stuck.
I could not possibly delete the Recycle Bin icon from screen because there was no "delete" option. Now, two friends contacted me frantically because they could not find the icon...obviously, they had right-clicked and then clicked the "delete" option instead of "empty" option.
I have tried to delete an icon from the desktop but it keeps saying: "This is no longer located in C:usersamedesktop Verify the item's location and try again" I deleted it in Exporer from the desktop folder. The icon stayed on the desktop.
I use Vista home premium but I've only had it for a few days. Anyway, the problem is that my recycling bin automatically deletes any files I put into it so I tried to change he setting but when the property window for it pops up the only thing I can change is to "display delete confirmation dialog". So I attempted to delete it and make another icon using the personalize trick but the recycling bin icon won't delete. Also, I can't make new folders using the right click. Under NEW is empty and nothing else. I'm confused as to why this happens.
It's just a little thing but is there any way to change the generic shortcut icon that often appears on the desktop for the more obvious one - eg BBC logo etc?
I understood this question might have asked hundreds of time. I searching from last two hours but couldn?t find my right answer. I was able to change all default icon of desktop except internet explorer. C:Program FilesInternet Exploreriexplore.exe
Every since about the time that Microsoft came out with Windows Vista and IE7 they have been using a spinning circle icon for their waiting cursor. This waiting cursor also appears in IE7's tabs.
sent laptop to service center for warrenty repair to cover. repair center updated the bios (bios launcher downloaded to desktop). when i got machine home i noticed an adminstrative tools icon now on my desktop. i am unable to do anything with this icon. when right clicked i get no option to delete or to open properities. i have tried dragging and dropping, moving, and deleting. i cannot move it off the desktop. control pannel still has the administrative icon in it and it works. the icon on the desktop works also. hovvever desktop is no place for admin. tools. i have also tried to delete from safe mode without any success.
A registered version of Cyberlink Power2Go came with my laptop. I only use it occasionally but do not wish to uninstall it. I try to keep my desktop free of clutter and the program had an icon ever since my first boot. I delete the shortcut and it disappears as with any other program, into the recycle bin. When I next boot the PC the icon has recreated itsself.
I wanted to get rid of the text under my Desktop Icon so I used Alt 0160 to do it and made it invisible. It worked great but I later wanted to delete the folder and now it won't delete.
I would like to set some key folders to have icons that identify what is inside. So my Windows install folder would show a folder with the Windows logo in front. (I have the ICO for that.) But how do you do that? I found a folder that has such a specific icon, but I wasn't successful getting it to work. My example used an icon inside an EXE. My icon is a stand-alone ICO.
I know where to go to change icons but vista will not allow me to use a custome image. I am right clicking the desktop > Personalize > then on the left hand side clicking Change Desktop Icons. But when I browse to my image it does not allow it. I also want to change the default image for folders as well.
I have recently logged on to my computer to find that all of the shortcut Icons that overlap the program icons have changed, and also that all my folder icons have also changed as well as in the start menu. See attachments for images. To try and fix the Shortcut Icons i have installed FxVisor32 for 32-bit Vista. I tried to change all the icons back but recieved the following error message. which stopped me from changing it. Note i am running 32bit Vista home premium.Code:See the end of this message for details on invoking just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box. ************** Exception Text ************** System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The system cannot find the file specified at System.Diagnostics.Process.StartWithCreateProcess(ProcessStartInfo startInfo) at System.Diagnostics.Process.Start() at VistaArrowGone.Form1.btApply_Click(Object sender, EventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.OnClick(EventArgs e)............................
When you dump things in your recycle the icon changes to a pic of a full bin (as we all know) well mine doesnt , not until after a reeboot then it shows as having contents.
if i put something in my bin now , it will go into the bin , i can open the bin and its there to be recycled but the icon wont change , if i dont empty the bin upon next reboot the bin will show as having contents so im assuming its not the icon cache thats screwed up (i have rebuilt it just incase and ive checked the correct icons are selected)...
I think this is now getting a common problem but microsoft havn't solved it (unless you know different?) I cannot change, rename or delete folders and now the recycle bin won't empty! (The recycle bin issue is more recent) Explorer hangs when i try to alter or add new folders. I have to use Ctrl, Alt and delete to re-boot explorer and cancel the operation. Once this is done you notice the file has been re-named and or the folder deleted but this is only after the "explorer hanging" has been cleared.
I am trying to attach tags to my email contacts in my contacts folder.i opened my contacts folder --> opened a contact file--> opened properties-->opened details-->and i could not delete, add,or change any items. No tag option appeared,so,i was intending to add one.the help appeared clear.
I am running Windows Vista Home Premium 32 (system specs: laptop 2.1 Ghz core 2 duo, 4 gb RAM, 500gb hd (about half full) nvidia 8400M GS, Avira Premium Security Suite). I have had the computer for about a year running fine with 1 main admin account. Now when I need to create an account for another user I cannot create one, either admin or standard. When I create it, using either the control panel or command prompt, it creates the user picture, making the account visible on the control panel user accounts screen, and on logon screen. However, when trying to log into the new account I am greeted with the error "User profile service failed on logon. User profile cannot be loaded." The standard fix for this from various forums is to edit the registry key of the account. However, on going to regedit I see that no key even exists for the account. On further investigation I discover that no user files have been created either. I attempted a system restore, but discovered that all my past restore points were gone, and intruigingly, the computer had stopped createing 24 hour checkpoints. I cannot say for definite whether it was this issue or another one that caused system restore to mess up, as I don't check my system restore all that often. Either way, system restore is not an option. There have been mentions of a full Vista reinstall, though if at all possible I would like to avoid this.
