Every since about the time that Microsoft came out with Windows Vista and IE7 they have been using a spinning circle icon for their waiting cursor. This waiting cursor also appears in IE7's tabs.
View 4 RepliesToday I switched on Windows Defender(for the first time)and ran a quick scan which was fine, but I've noticed a new icon in the systems tray with a green circle and a tick in it.When I hover the pointer over it, it says "Safely Remove Hardware".I've looked everywhere for an explanation but can't find any info anywhere. Can someone tell me what it means please.Also,do I need Defender on as I have McAfee Security Centre installed on my pc.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I open up my computer one of the drive letters (E in the right pane has a 3DHA (3D Home Architect) icon in place of what should be a regular drive icon. I guess when I was test installing 3DHA, it somehow messed up that drive icon, though I have no idea why, but their web site offers no help. I've since removed the software but nothing I've tried will allow me to change the icon back to a regular drive icon. I prefer not to download a 3rd party program unless I have to. I've come across a few sites that offered some tips but everthing I've tried only changes the icon in the left pane. In fact the properties for the drive letter in the right pane don't even have a change icon button, anywhere.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy desktop shortcuts with the program Icons have a white/windows shield over them. I can see the actual Icon behind the white. This occurred after I uninstalled an Adobe program Photoshop Elements 8.0 What I have tried:
1. Delete the icon and create a new one. No change.
2. Change icon in properties. No change the new one appears with the covering.
3. System Restore to an earlier point. No change all the desktop icons are covered over.
It's just a little thing but is there any way to change the generic shortcut icon that often appears on the desktop for the more obvious one - eg BBC logo etc?

View 7 Replies View RelatedOn any application, when I save for the first time, or save as, the window opens to select where to save (documents, usually) but the cursor becomes a little white circle and if I click in the window, it says not responding at the top. The only recourse it to stop it either from task manager or repeatedly clicking the close icon. Vista 64 Home Premium SP1 Intel Core duo E750, Nvidia Geforce 8800 4 gig ram.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI tried going to 64bit a little over a week ago, and it was unstable, crashing and all kinds of things. So I went back to 32bit on Sunday evening. The problem I'm having is that half the time my websites will load. Like when I click on Firefox, it's waiting on a reply in the bottom left corner and doesn't do anything. Nothing happens at all. Same with IE7. What I don't get is why, when I rebooted my computer just now, it popped right up no problem, but most of the time it stops in mid process like it forgot where it was going. I know my system is caching and all that again, but the net is still not working correctly. I've released and renewed ip, I've uninstalled and reinstalled and all kinds of things, but it's still doing it more often than not.

(I have the ICO for that.) But how do you do that? I found a folder that has such a specific icon, but I wasn't successful getting it to work. My example used an icon inside an EXE. My icon is a stand-alone ICO.

I am right clicking the desktop > Personalize > then on the left hand side clicking Change Desktop Icons. But when I browse to my image it does not allow it. See attachments for images. To try and fix the Shortcut Icons i have installed FxVisor32 for 32-bit Vista. View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen you dump things in your recycle the icon changes to a pic of a full bin (as we all know) well mine doesnt , not until after a reeboot then it shows as having contents.
if i put something in my bin now , it will go into the bin , i can open the bin and its there to be recycled but the icon wont change , if i dont empty the bin upon next reboot the bin will show as having contents so im assuming its not the icon cache thats screwed up (i have rebuilt it just incase and ive checked the correct icons are selected)...
I cannot find an icon to change my single photo viewing to full screen. Is this another Vista "oops"? Do you have a solution?

So I noticed that the printer icon for my printer became all white, IE a corrupted icon. So I went online and found information on how to refresh your icon folder. That didn't do anything. So I thought I'd uninstall and reinstall.
I have tried to reinstall my HP software from disc, and I get a 'new PSSWCORE.msi' file. I see the file on the install disc, yet it won't install. 'Network resource is unavailable.'
Now I cannot uninstall it. On my Add/Remove I see:
HP Customer Participation Program 9.0
HP All In One Software 9.0
HP Imaging device Functions 9.0
HP On-Screen Cap/Num/Scroll Lock Indicator
HP Photosmart Essential
HP Update
How can I get these off my PC, and reinstall cleanly so I can use my rinter/scanner again?
I installed new software and pinned the executable to the start menu. But, Vista displays a generic icon in the start menu for this program. All other programs pinned to the start menu display the correct icon. Any way to get Vista to dispaly the proper icon for this program??

I have Windows Vista Home Premium
At startup, everything loads fine. The desktop and all my icons are there.
However, there is a red X over my network icon on the task bar.
I have to wait at least three minutes for the x to disappear before I can access the Internet.
I talked to my ISP provider and they reset my router. The problem still exists. The provider said the problem is on my end, not theirs.
I tried everything I could think of including cleaning and editing the registry and the problem persists.
Don't know where else to turn
This is kind of trivial but when I sign in there is always a flower. How can I change that?
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy pc was working fine after the updates that i did the otherday and it got powered off manually from my friend today and I went to turn it on today and it comes to the loading bar and doesnt show the vista icon its a black page with the green bars loading with microsoft corp underneath them. I left it there for hours and it wont go past that. I cant even put it in safe mode because it goes to load for it and says please wait but doesnt change.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI accidentally deleted my desktop file and it asked me something about duplication. My fingers moved to fast and i agreed. Now I have two of the same icons on my desktop. When I try to delete one of the icons, either they will both go away or one will stay there and not work. Sometimes I can get it to only have 1 icons but once I install a new program, it will double the icons again. I added a desktop file again to "user" file and there is also a "Public Desktop" in the public file. This is very annoying and I would like to be able to put icons on my desktop without the duplication. How do I fix this? This situation is really hard to explain so I hope someone will have an idea of how to fix it besides reinstalling windows.

After a while, for no apparent reason, the "large" desktop icons setting produces some smaller ones also. Specifically it seems to be web short cuts. Some are large but some are much smaller, ie 2 icons which are identical (both web shortcuts) are randomly different sizes.
