Tempermental DVD RW Doesnt Star

I have a Samsung DVD/CD drive which is tempermental and I do not think it is the DVDRW but Vista. This is because it was working fine when I did a Vista clean install (yesterday) and Vista has behaved strangely by creating a Floppy Disk Drive a: when I last logged in and I do not have one fitted? When I load a CD/DVD into the drive the 'normal' wurrring noise and light flash but then they time out. If I try and access it through explorer it says load a disk?

When opening a folder that contains Media files in Vista 64 a special "Rating" coloumn appears that seems to be adjustable allowing you to rate files from 1-5.How do you change the star rating?

I have just found out that i cannot load my drivers for my star mirco point of sale tsp 650 printer becasue I am running a 64 bit machine...How do i get the 64bit drivers for this machine. I have been on the star micro web site and no luck there....

I installed this game in my pc with the cd, and everything ran perfect, I started the game and there was the intro video, after it ended, the game crashed, and the following message appears (it's in portuguese) in the error window.

Let it be known. This is for the FIRST game. Not the second. When I start the game this happens. I restarted, tried it again. Same Error. I uninstalled it. Restarted. Installed under Win XP Service Pack. Same Error. I made sure the exe is under the Win XP Service Pack. Same Error. I even tried the "change the mss32.dll in the directory." Same Error. I did the built-in system scan in the game configure. It's not the best but it should still play.

I am working on a voice interpreter system in Visual Studio for a client's machine. They love Star Trek even more than I do and are wanting to use a huge host of verbal commands. I was wondering if anyone here has a good list or knows of a good place or two on the web I can go to geta list of commands that someone would state verbally toa computer on Star Trek? Or maybe a good computer engineering/windows-operations list of commands?

So, installed SP2 and now the Windows Live Messenger will not start. All the other apps from Live work, but Messenger refuses. Anyone else found this?

I have a Dell XPS M1710 notebook and just yesterday it started throwing bad fits at me. First of all, if I start my computer without an external monitor, the screen just blurrs completely and I have to shut it down. With the monitor, nothing happens, but I dont think its a laptop any more if it does this thing. That partially fixed, I too have the SVCHOST problem. I used the svchost analyzer and Security Task Manager, but all they show me is that I have around 7 Svchost processes and they only use 10-15% of CPU. Its very peculiar because I NEVER had this before and I have my laptop for around 3 years. Checked all instances, every svchost is in the Windows System folder, so I ruled out a svchost virus. However, even when I shut down almost everything else, still 90-100% CPU. I just cant understand it.

I have Windows Vista Home Basic. I installed one of my favorite star wars games(star wars addicted) everything went great. But when I run it gets fun: I get a black screen, I can see my cursor and hear the sound. But I don't see the menu And when I click on something it shuts down the game. I also tried to run it in compatibility mode but that doesn't work either. I also tried to change the resolution but that doesn't help anything.

All had been working well until a few days ago. For some reason, now when I double-click a video file, I can hear the audio but I get no video. I must open WMP manually, and then I get the video of what I'm hearing. I used to double-click a video and it automatically opened WMP.
Then, to close WMP, I must stop the video first. Because if I don't, the audio will continue even though the video will not be seen. I then have to re-open the player, stop the video, then close WMP. I used to close the program (X on the WMP) and it would all (video and audio) close,

i recently downloaded got some ISO files from a friend and when i mounted them with daemon tools they contain nothing. I tried to burn it on CD but again it contains nothing (almost). Though the size is 3,5GB when i mount it on Daemon, the total files size is 124KB, (dont advice me to open hidden folders cause i tryied many things after doing this).
This also happened when my friend downloaded some warez stuff and he had the same problem. Though i tryied to stop him opening it with daemon tools due to virus risk, he did it and it had only some KB of file size.

Check Disk Gets to Stage 2 17% And just stops.
Brings up the next line awaiting another command as if it finished.
I've tried Doing a System Restore But it cant since the files are apparently corrupted and check disk cant fix them because it doesnt get far enough to find them in the first place. Just wondering if anyone here could give me a tip on what to do. I would reinstall it but my computer didn't come with a vista disk.

Last week I bought a new Acer Aspire 6350 w/ Vista - My 1st Vista machine. After uninstalling all the Acer bloatware, I open the GUI defragger, it analyzes C: for 2 secs (doesn't even mention analyzing the other 2 partitions) then it says "your file system performance can be improved". I defrag it the C:, it takes 45 mins or so and done. I go to my wife's Dell Vista laptop and go to the GUI defragger. It analyzes all 3 of her partitions. Weird, mine only analyzed C: for 2 secs. I then go back to my new Acer and run the GUI degragmenter again. After a 2 sec C: analysis it says "your file system......." again. Then when I go the command line defrag, run "defrag c: -a" it says I don't need to defrag. Bottom line is the GUI defragmenter doesn't work on this new laptop. It doesn't scan all partitions, when started it runs for a bit, then it just stops and it goes back to saying " your file system performance can be improved".

i have a Saitek Cyborg Gaming keyboard and everything worked fine until i spilled some water on it. the keyboard STILL WORKS after i let it dry out. the problem is it doesnt work on MY computer. im pretty sure its a driver issue. ive uninstalled all drivers for the keyboard and reinstalled. still no work. tried system restore to when it did work. still doesnt work. *Also the keyboard has gaming keys which are programed and still work. but normal keys dont. so im confused

CCC software doesnt seem to be working for me.I have used my recovery CD and the system has now CCC version 2.7 (It aint on the system tray but its running I guess).Problem is I uninstalled this and downloaded 8.4 (was like 40+mb)the setup process was very quick and when it ended there was no CCC installed but the setup was successfull.I mean even the ATI Techonologies folder was empty.
My graphics card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD2600 I went to Drivers>Windows Vista32bit>Radeon>HD2600 Series (PCIe)I have no idea what PCIe is either >.>.Can anyone post me a appopriate link or help me keep my drivers up to date?

I installed o&o defrag x64 but the program's service which is /system32/oodag.exe didnt work. I tried to reinstall or start the service manually didnt work either. I use the latest installer. Has anyone had a problem like this??

I have installed 4gb of RAM into my computer and vista doesnt recognize all of it. I know 32-bit vista only senses about 3.3 Gbs max. But my computer is only sensing 2.8 GBs. Then i checked my viedo card and Vista is sharing over 1Gb with my video card. Is there any way to fix this problem?

i have just purchased by new machine which came with vista ultimate 64bit SP1 pre installed. the bit locker will not work as there is no TPM found is says a TPM is required to turn on bitlocker. i know you can use a flash drive every time you start up the machine but i dont want to do that. Does anyone know how i can get a TPM or know a solution - i read something about upgrading the bios but i dont know what bios i have!

I have installed the IntelliPoint 6.2 but it doesnt work. My Sony Vaio Vista recognizes the devices but I can??t move it or use it at all. When I go to its properties and click on Buttons the following message appears: "Some mouse settings might not work until you connect a Microsoft mouse to a USB port on your computer or set up a Microsoft mouse that uses Bluetooth technology."

I just installed windows vista ultimate x64, when i look at my harddrive vista only shows 128 gigs, and 90 gigs used, it doesnt show my full 500 gigs, has anybody else come across this problem? I m pretty sure about my motherboard being 48 LBA, it says its vista ready.

I have transfered my programs using the transfer companion beta. I had to change the language and locale to US English for that to work. But now lots of programs fail to open as Windows Installer throws a messge windows installer coudl not be accessed. I intsalled the windows iinstaller clean up utility and now i have this message when i try to open a program... The system in my sig came with an Nvidia 9800GT 1GB card, my first NV card, I've been partial to ATI and was seriously looking at the newer X2 cards, wanted to hear of any issues with these and Vista 64? I cant run crossfire, the MB doesnt support it, my PSU should hold up to it, its only a Q9550 quad so I'm not sure if I'd be bottlenecking the board with a card that might be faster then my board can take? Advice would be great, might ask for some help in tweaking a few things in Vista and the new card ( which ever I pick..) for performance. Oh and those who are running the 4870's....are ya cooling them? My XP box had a X1950 Pro that could fry an egg, so it was running 5 fans and a Zalman GPU cooler. Was wondering if the 4870's are being cooled or if the stocker's are working well enough.

As you know, there are a number of formatting options for folders. Among these are the names of column headings, the order of the column headings, and the view (large, details, etc.). My problem is that after setting up the options the way I want them, they change upon the next startup of the computer - that is, they don't stay the way I set them. I have "Remember each folder's view settings" checked in Tools>Folder Options>View.

There are no Lower and Upper Filters in Register, linked to the Drive .
I have uninstalled the drivers to the drive and even the uninstalled the and reinstalled ATA controller.

I unplug AC and USB devices in order to work outside my working station... After some time, when I replug the laptop to AC and replug the USB devices they don't work... No mouse, no printer, no smart card, no usb at all. Also I can't restart the computer as it freezes, so I have to shut it down "violently". I noticed that this always occurs when the battery is under 50 %. But sometimes it happens even at higher percentages. I've installed sp2, I've disabled the USB selective suspend both in power options and in registry.

just changed motherboard to k8n sli platinum but now i cannot use my sata HDD , vista just wont boot when the disk is connected. it just keep on going forever in the boot up screen. but in linux , bart pe and other free dos program, it works just fine. i tried to formate it in all of these OS but still no way to boot in vista, i even cant boot from the vista disk with the HDD connected.
NOTE: i juse an IDE HDD to run my system, so the sata disk is just a storage HDD. if i leave the sata disk without any partition or format ,i can boot up in vista. but when i go to disk manager in vista and trie to formate it in vista, it just freez the program and i got to close the disk manager. but vista still work, next time i restart its back to the same , just staying forever on the boot up screen.

I'm having some problem with my audio. I have 2 regular speakers. I just bought a new computer (Vista Home Premium installed) and using the same 2 speakers that I had on XP.
Default setting is at 2.1. (I understand that means you have 3 speakers but I only have 2) and there's no setting for "Stereo". And the problem is that the audio doesn't go higher than 50 and the volume is VERY low. I tried so many different forums and couldn't find any results.
