However, I cannot find how to make changes to dpi.

Cannot Change Name Of Folder

Jan 6, 2010

I have Windows Vista Ultimate. Quite often I try to change or update the names of a folder, and Vista would not let me allow, and I get dialog boxes telling me that I cannot have access, or do not have persmission, etc, and I get these denials even after I closed all the other files. It gets annoying that I get the "NO" after I already typed the new names. I am the only person who have access to this home PC. How can I change this so the computer will let me change names anytime I want to?

Cannot Change IP Address

Apr 17, 2008

Up to a few weeks ago, I was able to change my IP address with these commands:

ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

But all of a sudden, I cant. I talked to my ISP and they say that nothing change on their side and I still have a dynamic IP. I believe that maybe one of the updates is responsible for this, I update to SP1 and almost every update exist for vista. So, my question is, do you know maybe on an update that can cause this?

Change To Port 587?

Mar 27, 2008

I am curious about the change to port 587. After upgrading to Vista SP1, using Windows Mail, I had the same problem as a few on this board, but only with my roadrunner service. I could receive mails. However, I could send e-mails that were very short (read one or two lines), but anything of any length and I got the usual message of server connection unexpectly closed. I turned off my antivirus program completely and still got the message and could not send e-mails of any basic length. However, I did try the suggestion in a previous thread of changing the smtp port to 587 (even though it appeared to be a comcast network) and, so far, it appears to solve my problem with roadrunner (knock on wood).

Change Ultimate 64 To 32 Bit

Mar 26, 2008

Ihad Vista Ultimate 64 bit preinstalled on an HP laptop and now need and want 32 bit for a variety of reasons and programs (no 64 bit driver for WiLife and no TurboTax support).I understand the HP recovery disk will not let me put 32 on instead, and I will probably just buy a 32 bit version. If i do,am I correct (1) that I have to reformat the drive, thus loosing everything?(2)If that is correct,if I make a backup of all the progarms(eg MS Office) can I then reistall on the 32 bit or will they be looking to(and only run on) the old 64 bit? I'm not worried about data (photos, docs, etc)since I have copies, but I don't know what happens to apps.(3)Will I need to get drivers for all the hardware again?I assume HP or the manufacture will have the necessary 32 bit drivers.(4)I've tried MS Virtual PC and that didn't solve my problems.

How To Change A Shortcut

Dec 17, 2008

Every time I create a shortcut, usually by right-clicking on an executable and then choosing Create Shortcut from the context menu, the default path is always set to, for example, C:Program Files (x86)My Applicationmyapplication.exe. However, I already set my default Program Files and Program Files (x86) location to be in the D: drive. Nature of the Problem After installing Vista Ultimate x64, I installed TuneUp Utilities 2009 and from there, I set the default Program Files location to my second partition which is D:. I expected TuneUp Utilities to make the necessary changes to the registry. To make sure that no programs were left out in C:Program Files and C:Program Files (x86), I manually re-created the 2 folders in D: and then copied all the files and folders inside. I rebooted afterwards. Upon boot, my expectations toward TuneUp Utilities 2009 seemed to be correct because the default now points to D: (whenever I install 64-bit or 32-bit programs). I had no problems running the applications as well.

But a problem arises whenever a shortcut is made. It doesn't matter whether it was created by the installer itself or created manually. The target path always points to C: while the Start In path points to the correct one, which is D:. Whether it be in the Start Menu, on the Desktop, or in the Quick Launch menu, the same behavior happens. It's often a pain to edit the shortcuts manually- doing a right-click > Properties > change C to D > Change Icon > Apply > OK every time I install a new application or decide to create a shortcut for a certain portable app. I believe there's a registry entry that I can change so that the default Shortcut path now defaults to D: instead of C:.
