man do i post alot of threads. OK. Theres a pc in my family. i want to upgrade it to windows 7. here's the the thing. It has vista OEM so i have no driver cds. If i wanted to upgrade to 64 from32 clean install will it keep my drivers eg
-wireless drivers
-graphics card driver
-display driver SIMPLY will it keep/install the drivers???
Had to upgrade to a new PC, and most every new PC comes with Vista pre-installed, no options for XP. I try hooking up my 2 year old scanner - no Vista driver. I try hooking up a webcam a friend gave me - no Vista driver. So the whole purpose of upgrading to Vista was so I could go out and buy all new hardware!! This will be my last PC with a microsoft OS.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have done this many times with XP Pro. Two entirely different hard drives. Make a dynamic file by file copy of C to D, then configure the boot menu to boot to either one. So, if C should die, boot to identical D. Has saved me and business clents many times. But alas, whatever is used as bootini in Vista seems a bit more difficult. If I have two identical hard drives with the same vista OS, how do I configure the bootini menu to boot to either one?

I was thinking of using two cards with a crossover cable but thought it better to just ask. View 7 Replies View RelatedI wanted to remove my NVIDIA old drivers(175.19) and replace it with 177.79. Used DriverSweeper 1.5.5, and this lovely program caused me nothing but headaches. Anyways, after this I installed 177.79(I think I was supposed to reboot, yes?) Now I can't even install any video driver(except for what Vista did automatically, but they are not the newest ones). On top of this NVIDIA driver 177.79 tells me I am using a 32bit OS?? I can assure you I am using 64 bit. I have attached some screenshots.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm very illiterate when it comes to computers. I got a Gateway laptop with Windows Vista included. The first time I started playing with it, games and such, I had sound but I stupidly put in the CD that came with the computer that apparently is only for reinstalling. Now I have no sound. I went to the Gateway download site and downloaded a driver that said it was compatible to my computer but it doesn't work. The little speaker at the bottom right shows a red X but my control panel area shows that it is working properly.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a HP C4180 All-in-One printer for use on my Vista home Premium 32-bits laptop. But I don't succeed in installing the printer. Everytime that I have to plug in the USB-cable, Vista recognizes the printer model, but doesn't find the drivers. I've already concacted the HP customer center, and many people tried to help me, but without succes. At last, I tried to install the printer on our XP-computer, and this worked very well, without problems.
I have to say that these drivers were installed with the XP-installation disk of HP. The other cd that came with my printer was a vista-drivers cd. At last, one of the people who helped me, said it could be a problem with the USB-cable. The length was alright (1.80 meters), and it worked on XP, but they said that Vista is more sensitive for different cables... I use this cable for my Maxtor hard drive too, on this laptop, without any problem caused by Vista.
i am obviously completely new to this, but i was wondering if it were possible to "RAID" partitions on one hard drive? Say i were to slpit a hard drive into even fourths, could i then set it up to pull data off the partitions as one like RAIDed hard drives? no specs needed just hypothetical question

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a wierd issue with Vista. At the moment I have 3 hard drives and one DVD That I am trying to use. Sometimes Vista actually reads the drive and I was able to format and save items to the number 3 500GB drive but when I reboot Vista forgets it. There is always an item in device manager that says unknown device on volume manager and no matter what I do it will not install drivers for this. Does Vista have a problem with high GB drives or with more than 2 hard drives? Would seem odd especially since I've had more on older versions and I do have a 100% genuine ultimate version.
Any time I try to do anything in Disk management it says the information is out of date and will not go any further. I've tried multiple ways of getting the drive to install but no matter what I do it's a roll of the dice if Windows will recognise it or not. My hard drive setup is Seagate 320 GB for C(Windows), 400GB for programs and a 500GB Maxtor That I'm trying to install mainly as a backup. I'm running a 3.4 dual core Intel CPU with 4GB of ram and crossfire enabled Video cards. I've tried diffrent controllers as I have 2 diffrent SATA onbard controllers and even tried a 3rd pci controller.
I have had recent problems installing external hd's on Vista 64. I have run into problems with USB2.0 as well as eSATA. The drive will appear under the device manager under "disk drives". But it triggers the new harware wizard, which can't load a driver, which leads to an unknown device being listed. Even when the unknown device is listed the drive still appears under "disk drives".
The drive will appear under disk manager, but it is unaccesable. You can remove the partition but can not change the drive letters or format or create a new partition through the wizard. The wizard will go through the motions and then the Drive manager has a message asking to refresh or restart the console which has no effect...............
i had a problem n the solution from windows was this: This problem was caused by Intel display driver, which was created by Intel Corporation and is distributed by Lenovo. To solve the problem with Intel display driver, go to the Lenovo website for more information. i went there n had to find the ThinkPad version to download the compatible one.. first What's a >ThinkPad< how do i know if i even have it? n how to find it's version?
View 5 Replies View Related1024MB XFX ATI HD4890 GDDR5, 4800 series that my graphic card. When i start up my pc, it runs fine and after about 30-60 mins, it suddenly goes black o some other colors. And restarting and shows this error-display-driver-has-stopped-working-has-recovered-successfully. But the weird thing is that, then it wont happen again, until i shut down my pc for alot of hours and when i start it up again it happen again, but its only once everytime i start it up. start it up, boom, restarting and after that it never happen again.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently was told by my computer I needed to backup my files. First I tried moving them to disc drive F but then it said that I had no more room. I tried compressing the files on F but it didn't work. So I put my backup on dvds. My question, is how do I get that stuff off of drive F, I keep getting a baloon that says "You are running low on disc space on drive F" and it's annoying. Plus I don't need that backup stuff on F anymore. What do I do to empty it out, as it was before?
