Running Low Disc Space On Driver F
Jun 8, 2008
I recently was told by my computer I needed to backup my files. First I tried moving them to disc drive F but then it said that I had no more room. I tried compressing the files on F but it didn't work. So I put my backup on dvds. My question, is how do I get that stuff off of drive F, I keep getting a baloon that says "You are running low on disc space on drive F" and it's annoying. Plus I don't need that backup stuff on F anymore. What do I do to empty it out, as it was before?

I just had a new hard drive installed. I am using OS vista Home Premium SP2 64 bit. I am now getting this message "Low Disk Space You are running out of disk space on RECOVERY . To free space on this drive by deleting old or unnecessary files, click here.. "When I "Click here," I am then offered "Disk Cleanup for RECOVERY (D." The Disk Cleanup offers "Office Setup Files" and "Recycle Bin," but both have "0 bytes" so I can't free up space that way.
when I go to my the only folder listed on the is the Recovery and when I click on it it has the HP Invent screen that says: Recovery Partition WARNING!!!! This area of your hard drive(or partition) contains files used for your PC Recovery Do not Delete or alter these files Any changes to this partition could prevent any recovery later. There are no files listed that I can see, so don't know what is actually on there, and I want to back this up to my external hard drive.

When i bought the laptop the there were 3 partitions, due to the two seperate hard drives, i used Drive C:/ for all of my programs and just school files. Drive D:/ is for music and movies, and E:/ are the standard HP recovery discs that come on the Hard drive. Yesterday when i turned on my computer i got a message telling me i had low disk space on drive D:/. But i don't have that much on it. The day before i still had 160gb free on that drive. It has just all a sudden become filled.
I have run symantec antivirus, windows defender, ad-aware, and ccleaner to try to fix the problem. I have also defragged the drive, and gone in and manually looked at all of the hidden and system protected files. I see no reason that the frive should be full, because all the most i have on that drive is 60gb.

I have had this Pavillion dv6305tx laptop just 2 months and after a short while the disc almost full message popped up, it is a 160gb HDD with vista ultimate 64 bit os. Strange because I had not installed any new programs. I phoned the HP line (India) and was told to re format the HDD. This I did but now I have the same message again. I have not istalled anything and the add/remove programs tells me I have less than 2gb of programs installed. The HDD seems to be filling up in its own and I cannot work it out. I think it is a setting in vista but don't know wher to start. The problem is not with the recovery partition D.

I turned my computer on today and nothing out of the ordinary happened, but I noticed my disc space went from its previous 168GB to 170GB. I assume it's just because it cleared 2GB of uneccecary files. I doubt it's a problem, though, just wanted to ask you guys to make sure.
Also, is it enough to run weekly scans on all my drives with McAfee VirusScan and Windows Defender, or does it have the potential miss things?

I am having a problem with losing disc space. I recently caught and presumably deleted a Trojan, Zlob-X.a. My computer was fine for about 48 hours after the removal. Now every time I connect to the internet I lose GB of hard disc space (about 1 GB every 5-10 minutes). The loss or continues for several minutes after I disconnect, as if something has downloaded and is expanding in the background. No spyware removal tool or antivirus has detected anything.

I have Vista Home Premium running on a PC with a 40GB C drive primary hard disc. My programs are on this C drive, all my docs etc are stored on either of separate D drive and H drives. My primary drive is running at about 30GB used/10GB free space. I continually clean out my C drive of temp files etc, clear my cache but how much space would I re-gain by using the Compress Drive tool (visible when I look at C drive properties)?

The PC has been losing memory at an alarming rate and now the remaining C disc space is at 257kb. We both regularly clear Temp Internet Files, and now only have programs installed that we use. There are only myself and my boy who use this PC, the other 3 kids have another to use, and between us we only have aroung 6 gigs worth of stuff on it, photo's and music mainly. We even took it back to the original factory settings earlier in the year due to this problem, but it started happening again almost straight away. I have AVG installed for anti-virus and Comodo firewall, after trawling the net I get the impression that this is not a virus-based problem but a setting anomaly?

I have a fairly new PC running Vista Ultimate. Last week I noticed tha tthe HD in Computer reported only 3GB of the 137 available on the primary C: partition of my drive was available. I've been trying a lot of troubleshooting to figure out what's eating my space Here's what Vista Disk Manager show: Here's what another utility show: On the latter, the large, grey area seems to be the issue. THe Lenovo utility says that it has not scanned that part sue to insufficient authority (I am the only user and has Admin privileges on this machine). So how can I go about determining what is eating 74GB of my harddrive?

I would like to get vista to use the login style used in Win 2000 ... ctrl+alt+del gives a login box in which to enter the user name and password.
Win XP Pro had this option also, but, it's default was like vista (pictures showing all users).
I have been able to get the ctrl+alt+del part but instead of the login box I still get pictures.

I have a 320 GB HD. When I checked it, I only have 25 gigs of free space. However I can only find about 180 gigs of files/data. Any ideas as to how I lost 100 gigs of available of space? Just a couple of weeks ago I checked and I had plently of space. No recent installs, only recent changes are the removal of Mcaffee monitoring software and running JkDfrag.

Had to upgrade to a new PC, and most every new PC comes with Vista pre-installed, no options for XP. I try hooking up my 2 year old scanner - no Vista driver. I try hooking up a webcam a friend gave me - no Vista driver. So the whole purpose of upgrading to Vista was so I could go out and buy all new hardware!! This will be my last PC with a microsoft OS.

I have a yellow caution sign next to my WAN Miniport (SSTP) in Device manager. I tried to update this MS driver but Vista does not find one. I suspect this is the driver problem error that is causing the SP1 install error.

I wanted to remove my NVIDIA old drivers(175.19) and replace it with 177.79. Used DriverSweeper 1.5.5, and this lovely program caused me nothing but headaches. Anyways, after this I installed 177.79(I think I was supposed to reboot, yes?) Now I can't even install any video driver(except for what Vista did automatically, but they are not the newest ones). On top of this NVIDIA driver 177.79 tells me I am using a 32bit OS?? I can assure you I am using 64 bit. I have attached some screenshots.

I'm very illiterate when it comes to computers. I got a Gateway laptop with Windows Vista included. The first time I started playing with it, games and such, I had sound but I stupidly put in the CD that came with the computer that apparently is only for reinstalling. Now I have no sound. I went to the Gateway download site and downloaded a driver that said it was compatible to my computer but it doesn't work. The little speaker at the bottom right shows a red X but my control panel area shows that it is working properly.

I am currently running Windows vista home premium 64 bit operating system, and for some strange reason I can not install anything on my computer. I thought it could be some malicious programming so I full system recovery'd my computer back to factory settings, but I still have the same problems. Before I wiped my hard drive superfetch kept crashing; which I had no idea what that was. I play World of warcraft and kept critical error'ing and it said it could not read certain files in its program. I believe it might be a hardware problem as in my hard drive but was thinking

I recently purchased a HP C4180 All-in-One printer for use on my Vista home Premium 32-bits laptop. But I don't succeed in installing the printer. Everytime that I have to plug in the USB-cable, Vista recognizes the printer model, but doesn't find the drivers. I've already concacted the HP customer center, and many people tried to help me, but without succes. At last, I tried to install the printer on our XP-computer, and this worked very well, without problems.
I have to say that these drivers were installed with the XP-installation disk of HP. The other cd that came with my printer was a vista-drivers cd. At last, one of the people who helped me, said it could be a problem with the USB-cable. The length was alright (1.80 meters), and it worked on XP, but they said that Vista is more sensitive for different cables... I use this cable for my Maxtor hard drive too, on this laptop, without any problem caused by Vista.
