can anyone tell me if its possible to change the generic Vista keyboards shortcuts? I'm having problems playing games (WOW in articular) where I hit Alt F4 or Alt TAB and it takes me out of the game, quite frustrating! I know it will most likely be easier to change in game setup but im hoping to be able to disable the Vista shortcuts or at least disable them for this program etc

In the last few months I have been unable to adjust my speaker volume by using the keyboard shortcut buttons, ( fn + F10; fn + F11; fn + F12). Is there a way I can fix this?

Is there a way to access the Device Settings in the Mouse Properties via keyboard shortcuts? I can get to the Mouse Properties via Windows start button key > arrow navigate to control panel > arrow navigate to mouse icon > press enter. But I can't get to the Device Settings tab!
Fn + F9 doesn't work, by the way!
as a software developer I find it very hard to use Vista just using the keyboard. One of the things I'm missing is the option to create new folders from within the Vista Common Dialogs for loading and saving files. Usually on Windows this is "+, , ". Did I perhaps misconfigure Vista to not support keyboard shortcuts? Or are they missing indeed?

View 4 Replies View Relatedwith all the latest games I have bought (gta IV and mirror's edge) I get DEP errors. I tried to exclude them from DEP but my vista won't accept it. So now every ten minutes my games freeze up. What can I do about it? I've read some artikels about shutting of DEP completely. I'm wondering though what that will mean for my security. On some other forums it has been implied that the DEP errors have something to do with faulty hardware.

I've searched the forums for a solution but have yet to find one. I'm using 'Win Optimizer' right now and I still get spikes (more frequent as of lately). Anyone know a "fix" or solution for this problem?

I have no idea what the specific problem is (despite hours of troubleshooting), so I'm goign to explain everything as much as I can.I used Vista Ultimate 32-bit for months on my machine and had no problems at all, everything worked great. Then, about 2 months ago, I switched to Vista Ultimate 64-bit because i figured I might as well get all I can out of my CPU. Everything worked fine at first, no major problems. My games and everything else worked just fine. But then, one day (about a month after installing x64), I got this terribly weird lag while playing one of my games. Here's how it always works: The game starts up just like normal and will play normally for a decent amount of time.
Then, all of a sudden, it starts lagging TERRIBLY. My frame-rate drops to almost nothing and my CPU goes up to 80-100%. After a while, the lagging goes away and everything's perfectly smooth, but the the same lagging and CPU rise happens again for a while and then goes away again. It's like a pattern. The sessions of lag generally last a full 1-2 minutes. After this problem first occurred, it never went away. I soon noticed that it didn't just apply to video games either. The rise in CPU usage and the video lag on my screen seemed to happen in a constant pattern no matter what I was doing.....
When playing a variety of games, they will shut down on their own at no specific point of the game. Games this has happened to include: Zoo Tycoon 2, NHL08, Railroad Tycoon Platinum & Sim City 3000 Unlimited. Of course all newly created data from the last save is lost.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have been experiencing this problem for some time and am now getting frustrated, Whilst playing several games, Halo 2, Burnout paradise and a few others my pc lags dredfully, to the extent that the games are unplayable, The PC gives a sound indication as if theres a USB device being removed then added continually which is what appears to be causeing the lag but i have not found any way to stop this can anyone help.am running vista home premium 64bit.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I first got my computer, it worked just fine, I played all my games such as Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and WoW on the fullest settings without a problem. Then a few months later it began restarting after anywhere between 30 mins to 1hour+ of playing. I called the makers of my computer, we tried to see if it was overheating but it wasnt, I also tested the videocards, it wasnt that either. Then, out of nowhere it fixed itself for a few months, then out of nowhere it happened again. I restored my computer to an earlier time and it worked for a few days and now it's restarting again.

Also, they didn't review my specs before sending new solutions.. Giving drivers not compatible for my notebook. When i play games my keyboard screws up, and holds the keys in. And if i forexample wanna move left with the arrow keys, and then wanna move right, it goes left... Its a setting, because i have tried using another keyboard. And btw, i have a laptop.

Just ran Quake4 at full specs and had Nvidia performance control panel turn the fan to 90%... but would like to monitor the temps and frame rates on this and other games. 9800GT 1GB. when i clicked on say outlook it tried to open with adobe
the only short fix was to uninstall adobe then all my icons went back to normal
then i tried reinstalling adobe reader and most of the desktop icons changed back to adobe icons.
I'm having trouble with shortcuts not working (not doing anything) in Vista. About as much as I can explain is that shortcuts with greyed out fields don't work, but shortcuts with all the fields editable work fine.

For some reason my shortcuts have program icons on them. I used a Windows teaking program awhile ago to remove the shortcut arrows and I dont think thats the problem cause' its been fine until now.

View 5 Replies View RelatedUnder the adminstrator log in, all the shortcut images are showing under "all Programs" under the start menu. Under all other user log in's, there is a blank file image(white square) with an arrow. I can not access the program when click on the white square. Also, the shortcut tab is missing under properties. I recently used wipedrive(lost restore cd) to restore the system to original factory condition.
Some items require me to find the file location to reinstall. I tried the rebuild icon tutorial, the file associations, retore vista shortcuts/icons & the default program options. Nothing has worked. Also, I noticed when I try to open another window in internet explorer it says "can not display page". It use to say something to the effect "open tab tutorial".

We need the shortcuts to show, and we need them to show for all users. At this point, I cannot get them to show for any user including myself that has admin priveledges!
