we are a college and we have a multiple user platform, but in our labs we have shortcuts on the desktop to all of the school's subscriptions, like MyItLab, and Courseport etc. I have created these as a favorite in IE7 and cannot right click and send to desktop a shortcut! We need the shortcuts to show, and we need them to show for all users. At this point, I cannot get them to show for any user including myself that has admin priveledges!
my favorites list has disappeared and l dont know how to get the list back on. All my favorites are still in a folder in my documents but l dont know how to get them back onto the favorites list and why they went missing in the first place. l tryed system restore but that did not restore the list. , l'm on windows vista IE. l know where my favorites are all kept in documents(favorites) but they have gone from my drop down list when l get a web page up and would like to put them back onto the main page .
IE Favorites has disappeared, then after rebooting my desktop ikons became re-arranged. WHAT'S GOING ON ? I'm running Vista64 w SP1. My desktop folders are re-located to a D drive. The OS is on the C drive. I still have all the "D:<username>Favorites" files that previously appeared in the IE favorites list.
Some of the shortcuts on my desktop don't display properly, and display as a generic icon instead of the correct one. This is strange because I had specifically moved those shortcuts to C:UsersPublicDesktop and they all display fine on all users' desktops but mine.
Is there a way to get into user's desktops to remove program shortcuts? I don't want to install programs "only for this user" however I don't want the shortcuts for my kids either.
I have recently found that my desktop shortcuts no longer work. When I double click I get a list (a very short list) of programs which might be used to open a particular software. It then looks to know if I want to save this program. It can then run it perfectly. One annoying aspect is that I am not able to get accessories within Programs. I use Paint quite a bit and it is now no longer available to me.
for the past few days, desktop shortcuts won't access urls. have deleted / replaced short cuts same problem, also have problems accessing url in open email so0me open others don't. when clicking shortcut get error---=no program associated to preform this operation. have scanned computer with norton and avg no problems detected
Instead of the usual icons/pictures there are white boxes for some of the shorcuts on my desktop. I was able to fix some by using the "change icon" option under properties. But I cannot access this option for some, like Outlook.
I'm pretty sure I'll have to do a install repair, but would like confirmation. It started when friend tried downloading a video file he sent to himself. (so no virus potential) he told the system to open with everything on his system to get it to play. It was a mpeg2 file so it would never play. When he gave up and tried launching a program. Every shortcut on the desktop launches with iexplorer. Properties for the shortcut point to the executable file for the intended program, so I don't get it. if I go to the program files folder and click on the executables, it launches correctly. only the shortcuts have been changed.
I have VISTA HOME PREMIUM 64 bit O/S Is there a way I can create shortcuts on my desktop without having the arrows showing? I tried Shortcut Manager, but that is only working for 32 bit systems. I searched for a 64 bit version but unable to find it.
I turned on my computer this morning, put in my password in the log-in screen as usual. Then when windows started I noticed that my wallpaper was the original vista wallpaper, all my sidebar gadgets were just the starting ones, and that about half my desktop shortcuts were missing. On top of that, all my documents, pictures, music, and even my bookmarks on mozilla firefox were gone!! But oddly enough when I go into C:/users/Matt everything is where it should be. But if i use the links from the start bar, it takes me to Users/Temp folder.
I have shortcuts to web pages on my desktop. They recently stopped working. When I click one, the arrow changes to a blue spinning circle and nothing else happens. If I click the IE icon, it opens and functions normally. I have Vista Home Basic and IE7. I ran Windows Update. It installed a bunch of updates, including IE8. But the problem remains.
It seems that all my desktop shortcuts have turned into white squares. It happened after the installation of last weeks security update.(at least I assume it was caused by the update.
This is my third post (twice in IE 7 forum...no answer). I cannot delete favorites from favorites list. I have tried deleting while in safe mode also. After a short while they reappear again and seem to be multiplying! I cannot find the temporary folder either. I have Compaq Presario with Windows Vista Home Basic and Explorer 7 installed from factory. Purchased January of this year. I am familiar with Windows Xp and could find my way around the computer files, but Vista is really different and complicated! I do not know what else to do. I also have Webroot AntiVirus with AntiSpyware installed and have unchecked the box for favorites sheild because I am constantly being asked to keep or remove the favorites, but if I click remove they still return and I am asked over and over again the same question.
I am having problems with creating shortcuts on my desktop. when i select send to desktop (create shortcut) it comes up with the error. Windows could create the shortcut. Check to see if the disc is full.I have over 180 GB free space left. To get things to the desktop i can drag it into the tab section next to the start icon, and then drag onto desktop. But when i do this i am always required to give permission and it creates two desktop icons.i have been having problems with my catalyst control centre but i dont think they are related.
When I download (like Adobe) from net, my OS asks not if I want to "run," but only if I want to "copy." Yes, from the "copy" I can install the wanted software. But the icon directing me to "install" remains on my desktop and all attempts to delete unwanted icon cause a failure to start on restart and the "repair" always replaces the icons. If I don't get an education, I'll eventually have a desktop full of icons I neither need nor want.
Would someone please tell me where I can find the Internet Explorer IE8 Favorites Folder on my hardrive. I want to burn a copy of it. Where does it actually reside?
I have a Vista64 Ultimate system. A few weeks after the initial build, I determined that the hard disk was bad as it would hang until it had run and warmed up for quite a while. Purchased a new hard disk and reinstalled windows. As part of the "new" install, I used an 8Gig USB drive to transfer personal files (including Favorites) from the old system/hard disk to the new one. Process was to boot up windows on the old hard disk, transfer files to the USB drive, boot up windows on the new hard disk and transfer the files from the USB drive to the new C: drive.
The new hard disk/system is working fine except I cannot add new bookmarks/favorites to favorite folders I transferred when surfing the net. With UAC ON, I get the following error: Unable to Create "internet site" Unspecified Error
when trying to save or paste a new internet site/url to folders I transferred from the old hard disk. Files CAN be saved directly to the Favorites directory. With UAC OFF, all favorite saves work as expected. I have tried "taking ownership" of each and every folder in the Favorites directory, but the problem remains. I would really like to use UAC for what its worth, but the problem of not being able to save URLs without turning UAC off and rebooting makes it REALLY hard.
I'm using Vista Enterprise at work and had to move cubicles. I copied all my documents from my old computer (also Vista Enterprise) and my favorites folder to a thumb drive, then without thinking coppied them all back to the Documents folder on this computer.
Now instead of IE7 looking in the C:Usersmy_name directory for the Favorites folder it or i have somehow created another favorites folder inside my old favorites folder in Documents and it's looking for the favorites there.
How do i redirect IE7 to find my favorites in the Favorites folder in the User folder?
Named "Favorites" without the quotes and you will have the ability to use your favorites folders again. (Close and reopen PD after you add this folder).
i am running on Vista basic 32bit. the problem is that when i go to add a favorite on IE8, this message shows up. C:/Users/Name/Favorites/New Folder/Favorites/New Folder/Favorites refers to a location that is unavailable. is there any way to change it back to just favorites as it is driving me up the wall!
Although solved I cannot explain. I have a new Dell desktop with Vista Home Premium SP1 (64) with Workgroups changed to MSHOME to match my older Dell running XP-HOme. Vista Networking and Sharing Control configured as Private and all Sharing 'On\\" except Password. No problem mapping to my XP's C, D and E partitions. Although Documents and Setting would open, not the \\"myfile\\" sub folder where I wanted to view Favorites and move some to my new computer.
After much trial and error found that if I specifically selected the Favorites folder and under properties chose Sharing and selected option to share, I then was successful at least in mapping this folder and transferring necessary files although I still could not open if attempted through the mapped C drive where I could not get beneath the Documents and Setting folder...
I have reinstalled my OS. Since then, my IE7 Favorites list (the dropdown menu that expands when clicking Favorites on the Menu Bar) opens in full length. The "Enable personalized favorites menu" option in Internet Explorer 7 does not hide my less frequently used favorites as expected any more. Is it a question of time until the list collapses and expands (I mean Vista learns my habits) or is it an issue that can be resolved?
Is there a way to scroll through the favorites quickly that I am missing? The only options I find are the up and down arrows above and below the list of favs. If I want one at the end, I need to hold the cursor on the down arrow until it finally and slowly reaches the end.
Can't believe Micro apparently forgot to enable that option. The button to the far left of your tabs, is a waste, for me, yet I can't seem to remove it in any way.
I have a Compac desktop, running Windows 7 (upgrade from Vista) and Explorer 8. My problem is the web pages that I go to and add to my favorites will not remember me. Each time for instance I go to Bank of America I have to put in all my login info again. Same with TV guide.will not remember my zip code, although it's supposed to. Is there some sort of setting I should have checked or something? It's really getting annoying to have to put in the same info time after time.
How do I put my internet favorites into alphabetical order when I click Favorites? They are in order in my C:UsernameFavorites folder, but not when I click Favorites in Internet Explorer.
I got a virus called trojan.fakeinit virus and I tried to remove this virus and I think I got it removed. And the side effects of this virus were that I couldn't manage to get into my task manger, than my favorites disappeared (well it is on my favorites file but I can't use the favorites on the exploer. I might have erased some registries by accidently .....) So I still have some viruses called
I want to remove these anyone know free softwares that can remove these? I want to recover my favorites and task manager. And i get similar to this (c;windowssystem32confifdestop not accessible) when i try to download a file or even I tried to attach some file into this thread... DO I just have to formet my computer?
I used Favorites alot in Windows explorer (not IE). It saved me huge amounts of navigation time. It is really rotten that it is not available. As a matter of fact, the whole hidden navigation, lack of easily viewable menus only slows me down and makes working with Windows Vista very, very, frustrating. At least put offline Favorites back in Windows Explorer. Favorites should not just be an Internet feature. When I want to dive 7 levels down to a particular folder, I want to do it right now, not 8 clicks from now.
just downloaded IE8, and now, seemingly randomly, I can't access my Favorites from the altC or altA bar whatsoever. even more odd, the Favorites folder has disappeared from My Documents (i reassiged the location to a backup drive previously, but that is still there). when I try to bookmark something (ctrlD, or click add to favorites) absolutely nothing happens.. no popup, no nothing.
i've tried several things already from changing downloading the fix_fav_il prompt, to resetting folder properties, etc. and i tried uninstalling/reinstalling IE8 already, which didn't help anything nothing seems to work. I feel like if the Favorites folder would reappear in MyDocuments, I might be able to figure something out, but it just won't come back!
