No Audio In Videos

Nov 3, 2008

I've just got a new laptop which has Vista Basic on. Everything seemed fine until I tried playing MPEG 2 videos: the video itself looked fine but there was no audio. I've spent hours on this now and I still can't find an answer to my problem. I'm getting desperate now:

Audio Red Cross - Conexant HD Audio

Dec 18, 2008

"no audi device installed, in volume mixer"

Im trying to help a friend fix their sound on their HP Compaq Presario F500 (2EA)Laptop. They have the annoying red cross over the audio icon on the bottom right hand corner of the screen (No Volume Mixer).

I have tried numerous things like:-

- Completely uninstalled the (Conexant High Definition) drivers in device manager, restarted and let Vista install them again.
- Downloaded latest drivers from RealTek,, and also HP
- Unfortunately their are no system restore points before the problem happened.

I have a sneaking suspision that either Windows Update installed something that is clashing with this problem or I herd that Itunes may have somethign to do with it (Which was installed near the time).

Dvd Drive Plays CD's AND DVD Videos But Will Not

Jul 29, 2009

The problem is: my dvd-rw drive plays CD's AND DVD videos but will not play game DVD's. What i have tried so far.

1) Used a lense cleaner to clean the drive.
2) removed upper and lower filters (registry)
3) Tried the game in another system (it works and is vista compatiable -
and yes the other machine was running vista)
4) Brought a new drive - still same problem.
5) uninstalled and re-installed drivers
6) Updated mother board drivers
7) tried the origonal drive from this machine in another machine running
vista - guess what? it works fine.
8) Tried system retore to the ealiest point possible - no good!
9) Same as above but from a backup - no good.
10) removed the only burning software i have installed (nero7) and re-
installed - no good. Also I would like to point out that the drive was
working perfectly when I first installed nero 7.

I am sure that between the drive working and ok and not working ok I have not installed any new software, only Vista updates etc but it hard to point out when it actually failed. Could this be a registry problem? Driver issue?

Rundll32 Errors On Videos?

Oct 21, 2008

I have been living with rundll32 errors for a while on my video files, I upgraded from xp to vista. It has not caused any real problems. However a few months ago I seemed to lost ability to deal with windows personalization. Can not change anything in windows color, theme or icon's said admin had turned off.. I was logged in as admin. I could live with this also as I could change my background and had set the colors to what I liked.

Well now things are worse two days ago the rundll32 errors started to happen a lot, Firefox crashed completely, would not run.. windows problem reporting told me to upgrade would crash with rundll32 error. My recyle bin went away, and can not replace, change icon's causes rundll32 error. Yesterday vista would no start.. took two times of repairing with upgrade disk and now seems to be fine. Went to cmd.com in run to do a file check. got the error NTVDM.exe and command com will not load. NOw in personalize change color get rundll32 error. Checked event log they all seem to be the same error....

E-mail-attachments (videos)

Apr 23, 2010

Lately I have found that my Videos sent as attachments in my Windows Mail on Vista are failing to open when I double click. What occurs is that they play, but in the backround with the original e-mail still in view. To see the attachment video I have to click on the icon (i have now on the taskbar) to view the video playing. The previous video attachments, those, which I had save on hard drive are also doing the same if I want to view them. This has just began, for before, once I double clicked I could view them right away.

E-mail Attachments-videos

Apr 21, 2010

I'm running Vista, and I've recently ran into a problem. I've always normally been able to open up my attachments that are videos by the usual double click, a futher window pops up to Open, indicating that it'll open up using Windows Media Player, I clicked on Open and it would begin. Now when I do the aforementioned and the window comes up and I click on open, it begins playing, however to view it I have to click on the icon Windows Media Player before the actual e-mail will disappear and the video is able to be viewed. Why would this have just occurred, has it something maybe due to their recent updates etc.

Movies & Videos Not Closing In VMC

Feb 2, 2009

I have a minor but annoying problem with playing movies or videos in VMC. Once you have watched the Mov/Vid and stop it and say you are done it sits in the main screen menu as now playing - eventually to start again of its own accord. The only way to stop this happening is to close VMC and reopen it.

Viewing The Videos Freeze

May 4, 2008

i've only just recently got set up with vista (home basic), and, until this last week, haven't had any problems viewing the content offered by Internet, plus other online video sites. (no, not porn!):o) anyway, for some reason, over the last week or so, i'm having problems viewing the videos, due to what looks like a lot of buffering. they take ages to load, and then every few seconds, they freeze for a while, before carrying on. a few seconds later, the very same thing happens, so i've just given up on viewing anything at all, as it's driving me mad. has anyone else been experiencing this problem? if so, is there anything that can be done to get things back on track?

Ultimate 64 Bit Videos Can't Play

Dec 21, 2009

On my Vista Ultimate 64 bit machine - SP 2 and Internet Explorer 8 - videos from two sites will not play. The video screen displays, but the video does not load and play. The two sites: "Wall Street Journal Online" and "MSNBC Meet The Press". They are not worked since I begain using the machine. They worked ok on the XP 32 bit machine that was replaced. Videos from other sites play ok.

I've sent help requests to both places - no response at all from Meet The Press - pro-forma "thank you and we will be touch" from Wall Street Journal on October 28, 2009, and no response to a follow-up "what is the status" e-mail I sent December 14, 2009 Hence, this post. Does anyone have any thoughts on what the cause may be? (I don't know if either sites uses it, butAdobe Flash is installed in the X86 sarea and works on other pop-ups and videos. )

I tried it in VLC Media player, and again it played right side up. Then I ripped a dvd and again it was upside down in media player but other players played it right side up. Now it's not ALL videos that play upside down, only some, I"m not sure what's going on. does anyone know how to fix this?

Zip Compressed File Comprising Videos

Jul 29, 2009

I did something stupid. anyways. My friend sent me a zip compressed file comprising videos. So when I clicked open - it prompted me to choose which program I wanted to open the zipped file in. Since it was video files, I clicked on the Windows Media. Windows media could not recognize each file but I think reads it as a compressed file... so it gave me an error message. Now every .zip files that I download (be it videos or not), I'm obliged to open it with windows media player. How do I revert back to the way it was where I would double click and see each file inside the zipped folder?? I think I need to change the "open with" program under the properties, but I don't know where/what the previous .zip file/program is...

Videos Not Playing With Parental Control

Mar 23, 2008

Just got new computer with Vista Home Premium. Have set parental controls to medium for my son. I am the administrator. If I go on "You Tube" I can see the videos and hear the music = it all works fine. However, if my son goes on you Tube he cannot see the videos/hear the music even though I have put "You Tube" in as an allowed website in Parental Controls. All he gets is the little circle (or timer) as though it is looking for the relevant video but, even if we wait ages, the video never appears. I have tried unchecking the "enable hardware acceleration" as per another post on this site but that made no difference.

Videos Get Set As Dreamscene Backgrounds Instead Of Being Played

Jul 5, 2009

I double click on a video clip, instead of opening windows media player 11 and playing it, vista ultimate sets it as the desktop background. I've even noticed it treats MP3's differently suddenly - when you try to open them, it displays the "Open With" box where you can select a program. Even after a selection, it doesn't stick and happens every time. The files have the WMP logo on them and everything I've checked has it as the default media player. The files WILL play if you right-click and "Open With". It just started doing this a few hours ago, media player got put on the back burner somehow.

Folder Videos Stopped Working

Mar 5, 2010

i found some software which can sort your videos and rename them properly according to imdb blah blah blah not important, and there's a feature that will sort the files into their own folders. i.e make a new folder named after the file and move the file in to it. but it stopped working, and i've got it into my head that it's to do with permissions. i dont have modify rights of the folder that the videos are stored in and when i try to change it to let me modify it says access denied. but some of the folders inside that folder have modify allowed and others don't. this is on an external drive, but i can sort the files into folders when the files are on my laptop.

Poor Sound Quality And Sticky Videos

Jan 28, 2009

I just bought a new 64 bit computer with 4GB RAM and 3.1 GHz AMD Athlon64 AM2 Dual Core 6000+. Also got Windows Vista Home Premium 64 Bit. But my problem is that the sound is awful, it sounds like tapes in a cassette player when the batteries are running down, with added dropouts and crackles, especially when I minimise the media player when playing audio files, (i've tiried WMP, VLC, Zoom and WinAmp). Any videos I stream on the net also sound like this. AVI's also have poor sound quality and can also be "sticky" the picture not running smoothly.

My soundcard is fine, i've run different ones on the machine and they all sound like this, my amp, cables and speakers are working perfectly too. I never use more than 1.5GB RAM and about 20% of the CPU according to TaskManager.

Media Center Refuses To Play Videos

Oct 21, 2007

I've been using Media Center for XP and then Vista for a few months. Due to a random pause issue that I can't track down, I've built another MCE-HTPC and installed Vista x64. The install of Vista and hardware went about as smooth as it can get. BUT... now that I've installed my codecs and such, MCE won't play any videos. These are videos that 32-bit XP MCE and Vista MCE had no issues playing before. In fact I can even load Windows Media Player and it will play the same videos with out a problem. But once I load MCE, I get the "can not locate codec" and it refuses to play. Since I've not had problems in the past... I is there a cache or database of some kind that Vista32 might have left that now Vista64 is trying to read and it's now unable to load the videos?... also, I did update my codecs to newer versions as well... is it possible that Vista32 had "named" codecs list and now Vista64 is trying to find the same codec name... only it's changed?

Magnifier Display With Photo Gallery And Videos

Aug 25, 2009

I am having issues with my windows vista ultimate 32-bit ease to access magnifier. For some reason my magnifier can't display any images from the photo gallery in any format, like jpg, or bmp. All I see in the display of the magnifier is white space.

Also how do you get the magnifier to sit behind the background when you play a full screen video from windows media player 11, Real Media, and VLC Player??? Every time I start any video from any format, such as avi, or rm. in full screen mode. The magnifier sits on top of the video blocking part of the video. I would have to turn it off just so it wouldn't block part of my video. This gets annoying having to turn it off and then on again.

I have been searching all over the internet for a solution to these problems, but I could not find any. I also have tried othe magnifier software such as Magnify glass pro and Izoom, but it does not seem to work the same as windows magnifier. I never had any issues like this when I was using windows XP.

Capture You-tube Videos , Size Too Big For Attachment

Mar 30, 2009

Windows Vista Home Premium, 32 bit, SP 1. Windows Live Mail. I am completely NEW in this particular subject, and I hope I can explain my problem intelligently enough. I am using Debut Video Capture Software, by NCH Software, to capture You Tube videos. That is not the problem. My problem is sending them out as attachments. Output formats available are : avi, asf, wmv, mpg, 3gp, mp4 or mov. So far, and I have not tried all formats , mp4 is the one with the smallest size, small enough to e-mail as attachment. But it has to be played in RealPlayer. My recipients have Windows Media Player, and wmv format is too big in size, about almost 10 times larger than mp4.
