Poor Sound Quality And Sticky Videos

Jan 28, 2009

I just bought a new 64 bit computer with 4GB RAM and 3.1 GHz AMD Athlon64 AM2 Dual Core 6000+. Also got Windows Vista Home Premium 64 Bit. But my problem is that the sound is awful, it sounds like tapes in a cassette player when the batteries are running down, with added dropouts and crackles, especially when I minimise the media player when playing audio files, (i've tiried WMP, VLC, Zoom and WinAmp). Any videos I stream on the net also sound like this. AVI's also have poor sound quality and can also be "sticky" the picture not running smoothly.

My soundcard is fine, i've run different ones on the machine and they all sound like this, my amp, cables and speakers are working perfectly too. I never use more than 1.5GB RAM and about 20% of the CPU according to TaskManager.

Poor Sound Under Home Premium

May 31, 2009

it is particularly poor (broken up) on such sites as Internet although it wouldn't win any prizes either when playing cds or mp3 files. i am not very critical sound-wise so it has to be poor for me to notice. there is a slight issue with my monitor speakers but the sound is still poor on headphones connected to the line-output socket.

my setup is vista 32-bit premium, audigy se sound board, intel 1.8ghz dual-core, 2gb ram and an msi micro-atx mb. i have loaded what i believe to be the latest sound drivers although things are actually marginally better with the on-board, realtek hd sound chip. btw, my download speed is reasonable at about 5mb/s.

Snipping Tool/Sticky Notes Cannot Start

Mar 23, 2008

I just noticed today that when I try to run the Snipping Tool, I get this
error:

THE SNIPPING TOOL IS NOT WORKING ON YOUR COMPUTER RIGHT NOW. RESTART YOUR COMPUTER, AND THEN TRY AGAIN. IF THE PROBLEM PERSISTS, CONTACT YOUR SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR.

I've been running Vista Ultimate for about a year now, and installed SP1 this week.

Restarting doesn't fix, I've also tried adding/removing the TABLET PC OPTIONAL COMPONENTS in the Windows Features On/Off control panel. This doesn't help. I even went to the extreme of uninstalling SP1 to no avail.

I also notice that I get the same error as above with Sticky Notes:

Sticky Notes IS NOT WORKING ON YOUR COMPUTER RIGHT NOW. RESTART YOUR COMPUTER, AND THEN TRY AGAIN. IF THE PROBLEM PERSISTS, CONTACT YOUR SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR.(80004005)

And Windows Journal too!

WINDOWS JOURNAL CANNOT START. THERE WAS AN ERROR INITIALIZING INKING
COMPONENTS.

The ONLY function in the Tablet PC that works is Tablet PC Input Panel. Well it runs, but neither of the TOOLS or HELP pull down menus work.

I've seen others with the same Snipping Tool error while searching google, but never found a fix. For some people they had to reinstal the whole OS, but even then the errors came back after a while.

Sticky Keys, Screen Image Shrinks?

Apr 18, 2009

As I am entering info my computer just randomly opens a new blank browser page, or the screen image shrinks, or the font changes in an email. Doesn't happen all the time. The "T" key seems to be the problem because it quits functioning until I click on the point where I was typing. This is a real problem since T is a commonly used letter and it is part of my name so it comes up in login situations. There might be other letters involved but this one is the most noticeable. Is it a sticky key problem?

Sticky Notes Mistakenly Deleted From All Programs

Feb 21, 2009

I got myself into a little predicament. I was messing around dragging sticky note off the start menu and onto "objectdock" (if you know about it it's like the mac os dock for vista). So, from here to there I end up deleting it from the all programs menu but I still have the shortcuts. How can I restore the original shortcut the used to be in all programs menu? The program still runs and everything but I just want it back in the menu

Poor Performance With X64

Apr 8, 2009

I'm new to a x64 OS, I did have Home Premium (32bit) on my PC but upgraded yesterday. Since upgrading (clean install) I've notice that the boot times are longer and the shut down times have increased significantly. One of the reasons I moved to x64 was because of the faster boot and shut down times. A few other programs are taking longer to load/respond but I'm not sure if that's because they are 32bit programs running in a x64 environment....

Win 7 HDMI And Poor Text Clarity

I am using a 19" HD flat panel TV as an external monitor for my laptop (Win7). Text was crisp and clear with the RGB connection but when I switched to HDMI (to get the audio also) the text got pretty blurry (graphics are still pretty good). I've tried adjusting the resolution, the Clear Type text, and the Smaller 100% and Medium 125% settings but nothing seems to help. I've also tried various adjustments on the TV to no avail.

How To Convert HD Video And Not Lose The Quality?

Sep 22, 2009

hd(high-definition) video refers to any video system of higher resolution than standard-definition (sd) video, and most commonly involves display resolutions of 1280=d7720 pixels (720p) or 1920=d71080 pixels (1080i/1080p). and, when you want to upload these hd videos on Internet or play them on ipod, you will come across this problem - "i need to convert hd video formats for uploading or portable players, but why the output quality often gets bad after conversion?" this article can help your resolve this issue -convert hd video and not lose the quality.

this hd video converter supports hd video output and all resolution parameter of the hd video in the settings have been changed from 1280*720 to 1920*1080. so, you just need to select the output video format from the hd video column (mp4 for ipod, wmv for uploading, etc.) and adjust the resolution to 1920*1080 and bit rate to 10000 kbps or 8000kbps.(this hd video converter also supports setting resolution parameters manually, so you can type the data by yourself). after parameter adjusting, you can edit the video effect or start to conversion directly.

Movie Maker Quality Declines Significantly... DVD Vs .MSWMM Format

Sep 10, 2009

I prepared my first slide show using Windows Movie Maker. It looked wonderful as I previewed it in Movie Maker. I used my own photos, which I shot in RAW with a Canon 40D, processed in Adobe Camera Raw, and made final adjustments in Photoshop CS4. I converted the files form .PSD to .JPEG, each being about 1.5 megs, though I could have had them be significantly larger. The photos were sharp and the colors were accurate when I viewed the previews in Movie Maker. I then saved the project to a DVD, usingvWindows DVD Maker. The photos lost their sharpness and the colors became muted. Additionally, some of the Movie Maker Effects looked trange. How do I get the .MSWMM quality in a more portable format?

I published the movie as follows: (1) Clicked ?Publish to DVD?, (2) Clicked ?Options?? (3) selected ?Start with DVD menu,? ?16:9,? ?NTSC,? DVD burner speed ?Slow,? ?Next.? I then clicked ?Customize menu? and made some minor changes to the foreground only. When I expanded the dialog box to full screen and clicked ?Preview;? the photo quality was quite good. (4) I clicked ?Burn.? I did not see any options to save at higher quality levels. As noted, the photo quality when I viewed the slide show from the DVD was not good. I am using Vista 64-bit. I have a Dell Studio XPS 435MT desktop with 8 Gigs of RAM, an Intel Core i7 processor, and an ATI RADEON HD4670 512MB graphics card. What can I do to get the same quality that I saw in the .MSWMM previews, but in a format that others can use, like a DVD?

Default Vista Supplemental Drivers Would Mean Loss Of Graphics Quality Compared To Using Up To Date Drivers On A XP OS

Oct 4, 2005

While being satisfied by the cool effects and new interface of Windows Vista Codename Longhorn, many of us testers are what you would call "gamers." The lot of us would like to know if gaming on the default Vista Supplemental drivers would mean loss of graphics quality compared to using up to date drivers on a XP OS. For example, I installed Vista and then installed my trusty game, Battlefield 2. I tried using the new nvidia Vista drivers but the game kept crashing when I start it up. So I reinstalled the Vista Supplemental drivers and it happened to work. Quite interesting. I am able to run the game on default vista drivers and not the nvidia vista drivers. Coming to conclusion, would using the vista drivers result in loss of quality and graphics compared to using up to date drivers on a XP system?  Or you can also rephrase it; Would gaming be better on the Vista Beta or XP? Does anyone know if SLI works on Vista?

Dvd Drive Plays CD's AND DVD Videos But Will Not

Jul 29, 2009

The problem is: my dvd-rw drive plays CD's AND DVD videos but will not play game DVD's. What i have tried so far.

1) Used a lense cleaner to clean the drive.
2) removed upper and lower filters (registry)
3) Tried the game in another system (it works and is vista compatiable -
and yes the other machine was running vista)
4) Brought a new drive - still same problem.
5) uninstalled and re-installed drivers
6) Updated mother board drivers
7) tried the origonal drive from this machine in another machine running
vista - guess what? it works fine.
8) Tried system retore to the ealiest point possible - no good!
9) Same as above but from a backup - no good.
10) removed the only burning software i have installed (nero7) and re-
installed - no good. Also I would like to point out that the drive was
working perfectly when I first installed nero 7.

I am sure that between the drive working and ok and not working ok I have not installed any new software, only Vista updates etc but it hard to point out when it actually failed. Could this be a registry problem? Driver issue?

I have been living with rundll32 errors for a while on my video files, I upgraded from xp to vista. It has not caused any real problems. However a few months ago I seemed to lost ability to deal with windows personalization. Can not change anything in windows color, theme or icon's said admin had turned off.. I was logged in as admin. My recyle bin went away, and can not replace, change icon's causes rundll32 error. Yesterday vista would no start.. took two times of repairing with upgrade disk and now seems to be fine. Went to cmd.com in run to do a file check. got the error NTVDM.exe and command com will not load. NOw in personalize change color get rundll32 error. Checked event log they all seem to be the same error....

What occurs is that they play, but in the backround with the original e-mail still in view. To see the attachment video I have to click on the icon (i have now on the taskbar) to view the video playing. The previous video attachments, those, which I had save on hard drive are also doing the same if I want to view them. This has just began, for before, once I double clicked I could view them right away.
