I have a new computer with Vista Home Premium x64. I used a dual monitor graphics card in my old computer with Windows XP. Took the card out and install it in my new computer and updated the driver. But, performance is poor. For example I can't use Vista Aero. I would like to buy a new, relatively inexpensive dual monitor graphics card which is compatible with Vista premium x64.

I've encountered a problem in recent days concerning either my graphics card or monitor, which one? Im not sure. It all started a yesterday while playing a game of Counter Strike : Source , I had alt-tabbed ingame and decided to alt-tab back into the game and as i proceeded to do this my computer locked up ... couldn't move mouse or anything. So I proceeded to restart my computer. This is where everything went wrong. My monitor was not showing any image, only a black screen with the Analog/Digital box flashing. So I tried a few things to see what would resolve this problem ... Removed all cords, plugged them in agian ect. Unplugged graphics card then plugged back in agian. Restarted PC numerous times. Reinstalling drivers I'm using a DVI to VGA cable connecting my graphics card to my monitor,
I've also tried plugging another monitor into my graphics card, with no result.Onboard graphics work fine. I don't have another graphics card to test it on ... In my computers devices it says the video driver is not installed correctly or something along those lines? Does anybody have a step by step guide on installing drivers?.....
I have a HP Pavilion computer that has the video card built into the motherboard, I want to run dual monitors on the computer. Can I using the existing video card setup and get another video card to run the second monitor, or do I need to get a dual monitor video card? Or is there any other options for a dual monitor setup. This computer is not for high speed graphics. No gaming on this system. Just need to know the best way to approach this situation or what you would recommend.

Since upgrading (clean install) I've notice that the boot times are longer and the shut down times have increased significantly. One of the reasons I moved to x64 was because of the faster boot and shut down times. A few other programs are taking longer to load/respond but I'm not sure if that's because they are 32bit programs running in a x64 environment....

It’s still in dual screen mode as I can see a taskbar window fly to the second monitor. But I have to sleep and wake again to get it to come back on. Anyone else experience something like this? View 6 Replies View Relatedi have only one monitor, and somehow it is being treat as though its the secondary monitor in a dual monitor set up. i cannot view my start menu, or view any programs being opened, as when i try to open them, they presumeably open on the phantom primary monitor. even when i try to open display settings, i cannot see the box. i am able to move my mouse to the left border of the screen and move it off into oblivion, and occasionally drag random folders and short cuts over to view.

To my dismay I had to realize that for some reason that monitor stopped recording about a year ago, i.e. the System Stability Chart shows data from the time I bought the machine until about a year ago but doesn't show any newer data. It could well be, that I inadvertently disabled some service or feature at that time. How do I get this monitor back to life, i.e. what service or whatever do I have to (re-)enable to get obtain fresh data again?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just wiped my laptop and installed a new copy of Vista, I installed all the new drivers but now when I try to dock my laptop my computer slows significantly gets very sluggish and freezes at times. When I drop the resolution on the laptop display from 1440 to 1280 everything runs fine. Not sure what to problem is but its killing my performance.

I have recently installed a ATI Radeon HD 4670 into my computer, I downloaded the latest ATI Catalyst driver from the ATI website and it installed the latest driver for both of the video cards, after it restarted I get this error message in the device manager for the ATI Radeon HD 4670:
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38)
I checked in the device manager and it says it has the same wddm driver version for both devices, I have tried installing many times but it continues to presist, is this a Windows Vista or ATI issue? Is there anything I can do to fix it?

Running Windows Vista Ult and i installed a second graphics card to run 3 monitors.
The problem is device manager doesn't show the second installed graphics card.
My System:
E6850
GA-x38-DQ6 MoBo
4Gb ram
8800 Ultra
7600GT (This is the card i added)
Basically it recognizes the 8800 Ultra only. I have read that to use dual cards with Vista they need to use the same drivers (169.25), which they do. Even if that wasn't the case shouldn't the graphics card show in device manager regardless?
Is there something about Vista and dual graphics that i am missing?
The 7600GT functions fine, (tested in another computer) so i am at a loss here.
I currently have two monitors. The back of this computer has 2 video ports. 1 of which is DVI-I (4 pins next to the long pin) and 1 DVI-D (Does not have 4 pins). I currently have 1 17 VGA ONLY Monitor, and one 19 DVI-I, VGA, S-Video. I have 1 VGA cord, 1 DVI-D cord, and one DVI-I to VGA Adapter.Both Monitors work in the DVI-I slot. Obviously I can only connect the VGA to the DVI-I slot. I have been on intels support site for hours checking drivers, updating bios, etc. Can provide screen shots of anything needed to help with this. When I right click and go to "Personalize" I can click on the "greyed out" Monitor 2, click extend desktop, when I click apply the "working" screen flickers, asks do I want to keep these setting yet nothing has changed. Once I click yes it returns to display settings and monitor 2 is greyed out again.Under "Device Manager" under Display Adapters it says "Intel(R) Q45/Q43 Express Chipset", and under Monitors it states "Generic PnP Monitor"....
since nobody can fix my memory issue, i decided to run vista on my PC. everything went smooth, except when i leave my computer and the monitor goes into "power save" and turns off. when i move the mouse / press a key on the keyboard to turn the monitor back on, one of my screens goes all green and has scanlines running across from it, and its all jagged. when this happens, i cannot even log back into vista, or see anything for that matter. i have no choice but to manuall reboot the computer and log back in. the multi monitor support in vista really sucks, so i installed my nvidia drivers to see if i could use the nvidia multi monitor support and i cannot even find my nvidia control panel. anyways, as a last resort, i installed ultramon, which is a 3rd party multi monitor support program which seemed to work fairly well. but then, when the monitor goes into power save again...the same stupid thing happens.i have currently given up running two monitors with vista, and im running just one until the whole monitor scanline problem goes away.

According to the settings, I have the my left monitor as my primary monitor, and my right monitor is my secondary monitor. What is bugging me is that my start menu is on the secondary monitor when I would like it on the primary. If I swap my primary and secondary monitors, my icons move to the right monitor, but regardless of primary/ secondary my start menu remains on the right. How do I move it to the left?

I can figure out how to set them up in Vista, and also in ATI Catalyst, setting the default and extending the desktop and all that. I had been running dual monitors like this for years on my former XP machine. My problem is, each time Vista goes to sleep, or hibernates, and even on some restarts it reverts back to clone mode. HUGE pain in the butt.
why does vista say i have 4GB of video ram, when my card is only 1GB? is it using part of my 8GB of ram for video?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a HIS ATI Radeon HD 4870x2 Graphics card I am getting very poor gpu clock and memory speeds on both cores of my graphics card. at both 3D and 2D mode, using GPU-Z 0.3.0.0 and ati 8.12 catalyst control center I know that in 3D mode it should be at 750MHZ and 900MHz and 2D at 507MHz and 500MHz(2gpu). I have un-installed and re-installed the 8.12ccc with no change at all, also using driver cleaner(in safe mode) when un-installing. I get no arifacts as I use ExpertTool V4.0, enable fan contol for cooling while playing games. Its just the card will not run at its full potentuall or how it should.

I have: On the left a Dell 2005FPW, which is pivoted (to read PDFs and stuff like that easier) On the right a Samsung 226BW, which set to normal. However, when I go to the NVIDIA setup, and try to tell which monitor is where and which should be the primary display. The primary display always tends to be placed on the left side in the software. I want the Dell to be the extended display, while the Samsung is the primary display. But the software (either in Vista or the NVIDIA driver itself) insist on that both the primary and the first mentioned display is the same.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am experiencing a strange power problem with my monitors. I have two, each hooked up to a Radeon HD 800 series video card with dual DVI connectors. The problem is this: When I have my computer working as normal, if I switch off my secondary monitor, and then switch it back on, my primary monitor's display garbles and goes out for a second until my secondary monitor is back on. Also, anything that was displaying on my secondary monitor does not refresh and I can not access those programs. Does anyone know what is wrong and how to fix this?

Also is that the best card i can get for the cash? i would prefer ATI but would be willing to go over to Nvidia. i currently have a HD radeon 2600 XT which is a slim one, depth wise anything would fit, but i think a longer card would have a hard time fitting.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a 2 year old XFX GeForce 8600 GT PCIE 16X that Im trying to install in a new computer with vista 64 and on board ATI radeon HD 3200. The first couple times i tried it, after install, i got no graphics at all, until i removed the card. After going into the BIOS, and changing the "displayPort Config" from Auto to Enabled, the on board graphics would work with the card installed, but not the card graphics. When i try to load the supplied drivers I get this message "The VGA detected seems not XFX's product. please go to nvidia.com to get the driver for the other NVIDIA VGA."
I dont understand that, but i then downloaded updated drivers from Nvidia, but when i try to install them, i get an assortment of error messages, including "The Nvidia setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware", "you are running a 32bit version of nvidia uninstaller on a 64bit system", "setup detected the operating system in use is not windows vista 64bit" these errors seem to contradict themselves.
Is it possible this card is not compatible with the computer? The card may be bad, as my old PC lost graphics, but the geek squad (a bunch of morons by the way) swapped cards and still no graphics and said my MoBo was bad, so i just got new PC, but woudl like to use this card , as I assume its better than the included built in graphics. Going into the MoBo users guide, it doesnt cover switching from on-board graphics to PCI slot, other than describing how to configure the BIOS settings for the graphics card to support ATI Hybrid CrossFireX. I tried that, but it didnt seem to do anything either. im guessing the ATI contol center software doesnt show the enable CrossFire option without a CrossFire compatible card installed, or i didnt install the drivers correctly for that function.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhenever I'm chatting on IMVU, or doing anything which requires lot of 3D, my screen flickers 2 or 3 times, I see everything freezed, the screen turns black, and then most of the time, after a while, it turns back and gives me a balloon message on the taskbar that the graphics' driver stopped responding and is restored.
It happens a lot.
And it gives on my nerves a lot, because when the screen returns, all 3D using programs are not responding anymore, untill I try to close it, and tell Windows Vista to wait untill it responds, then it takes about a minute or 2 to see motion again.
Sometimes the error doesn't happen at all. Sometimes it happens every 5 minutes. And I even had a blue screen once.
The only thing I was able to read was that the graphics' driver stopped responding and Windows was unable to restore it.
I tried reinstalling the driver.
I own the newest version of the driver, so update is not possible.
Now i've installed Vista Home Premium 32-bit onto the system, but it will not detect the graphics card at all. Although i have got a display (Motherboard does not have on-board). I've tried using the driver disk supplied with the card, but it always tells me to go to the XFXForce website, so i do and download their drivers and install but CCC does not appear to get installed. I've tried the card in another Vista 32-bit System and it gets found and drivers install nicely and the card works fine. Is there anything wrong that i'm doing??

I have a notebook with the required performance, Processor (1.8 GHz required, 2.0 GHz Owned) graphics card (256 MB Required, 384 MB Owned) and plenty of RAM (4 GB) but when the game loads, it says there is not enough video output to run the game. I have looked into why and I found the problem and was wondering if anyone could help. The problem is in the graphics memory usage. It says that 128 MB goes toward dedicated memory and 256MB goes towards shared memory. I was wondering if it were at all possible to make all of the video memory go towards the dedicated memory because in the game it says it is only getting the dedicated memory? I tried looking in BIOS to switch all of it to dedicated memory but was unsuccessfull in my attempts.
