Vista Will Not Boot Usb Disabled In Bios

May 2, 2008

Vista will not load up Normal, once I get to account selection screen, mouse and keyboard are unresponsive. REpair mode did not resolve issue. Attempted various restore points from 4/23/08 going 30 days back. I can then select an account and Vista begins to load up but keyboard unresponsive when initial programs load up, even using PS/2 device connection. Mouse still fuctions until....System seems to "hang" after a "New Device Found" window pop up. Windows will search for drivers for you. Then nothing.. I then lose mouse control...

Attempted Fixes: I have tried a windows repair disk and no luck. I have tried numerous restore points, same result.. I have EVEN tried to access hard drive via UBUNTU Linux and Knoppix..with both systems not being able to mount device.. Current Status: I have disabled USB support in the BIOS.. and now I can get Vista to load up USING PS/2 devices...but what do I do now? 1. I can't back up the data since no USB support hence no attaching external devices such as usb hard drive... How do I resolve issue, I should not have disable USB to have Vista "function" should I

Unable To Get Bios For Boot Menu

Nov 2, 2009

I am unable to get to bios so I can boot to my cd. I have a 64-bit Vista repair disk, but I am unable to boot to either that or an Acronis rescue disk. What can I try? I've tried every F-1 through F-12 combo I can think of...holding them down, pushing repeatedly, holding esc...holding delete, nothing is working. My screen is black...meaning, it is just like it is when in hibernation, etc. During all of my attempts, it did work once and went to my desktop, but unfortunately I tried to restore my acronis image instead of doing a system restore. how I can get into bios so I can get to my boot menu?

Bios Configured Boot To Cd Drive Before Hdd

Apr 10, 2009

Anyone had any experience bypassing BitLocker (basic mode) using the recovery console (i.e., booting to the Windows DVD or rescue CD)? Based on the documentation, seems like it would work (provided BIOS is configured to boot to CD/DVD drive before the HDD). Having said that, would M$ allow such an obvious attack vector? I don't have a machine w/ a TPM right now, so I can't test this myself.

Locked Out Of Bios: Boot From CD But I Cannot Get In To Change The Order

Oct 30, 2009

The problem is there is a password on the bios (where this came out of i don't know) and I need to boot from CD but I cannot get in to change the order, also this means I cannot use bios clearing password tools as they are off a cd. I think the laptop holds the bios password in the eeprom and not the bios battery.I have striped down the laptop a far bit but could not find the bios battery. The problem is I am on holiday at the moment and I don't really want to strip it totally as I am in a hotel, but I really need to get this going.asap

I have tryed some default password for the bios manufacturer, but nothing. I wiped my laptop before and put on vista 64, but when I redownloaded the acer empowering support wiget(that would let me change the order their) that does not work and I cannot find anything on google about the issue. Is there any programs that can do this from windows?

How Can Make Boot Disk For Update BIOS

Mar 19, 2008

So have an intel mobo, and there is a BIOS update for it, but the windows exe that Intel provides to flash it right from inside windows doesn't work in Vista 64 Ultimate. So My other options are to create a bootable USB stick or a bootable CD. I actually don't have a USB stick I can use for this, so I want to go the CD route. Either way I don't know how I can make a bootable Vista disk that gets me to a command prompt that I can put these bios files on so then I can run the bios update. I think this BIOS update could solve some problems I'm having getting things running smoothly.

Turned Off Vista Disabled Firewall Service

Jun 23, 2008

We are running an old CA program for our antivirus here at school. It is called inoculateIT. It has performed well for us, so we've never upgraded to their newer offerings. To install it, you use a remote install program located on the domain controller. I just bought the first Vista computer to try out here and upon trying to install this program, it cannot find the path. When this happened with XP, it was because the Windows firewall was turned on. I have turned it off in Vista and disabled the firewall service, but still get the same message. It shows up in the list of computers in the remote install program's browser just like it does in the active directory list. I just believe it has something to do with the security in Vista that is blocking it.

Vista Showed Up Bios Aren't Dual

Feb 1, 2008

Well, I just got 4gb of RAM (4x1gb) from Silicon Assets. Coming from 1gb (512mbx2), which was high density. The new stuff is low latency (4-4-4-12), and low density, and double sided. Well, I installed them in Vista Ultimate x64, and only 2814 show up. I go in the BIOS, and everything shows as 4gb, the PCI-E is limited to 512mb (because thats how much it takes iteself), and everything was set. Well, in CPU-Z it also tells me I have 4gb of RAM. When I used the MEM-TEST LiveCD, it said I had 2815 again, same as Vista. I removed all the RAM and tested them one by one, and all showed up in the Bios correctly. I then put in 3 sticks so they aren't in dual and that only 3gb is there, and the same: 2815 even after scanning and everything. I am completely lost on what to do.......

Bios And Revert Would Not Bios

Sep 19, 2008

I've been messing around in my BIOS. Installing some faster RAM and trying a slight overclock (2.4 t0 2.7Ghz on a Q6600) and seem to have caused myself several problems. Firstly I tried to push it a bit further on the FSB- from 1200 to 1300-the system wouldn't boot and wouldn't let me into the BIOS. I eventually got round this by removing the mobo battery. I was able to get back into the BIOS and revert to my original oc. However when I booted I got a re register Windows this is not a genuine version notice. I had to 'phone microsoft and get a new activation ID. I'm now back in windows (Vista HP 64 bit) but seem to have a few left over issues. My clock was set back to 2006 and that meant I couldn't activate Gmail etc. I went back into the BIOS and reset the date but could not change the day. So it's 3.19PM on Monday the 22nd of September, 2008. I've tried everything I can think of but cannot find a way to make it Friday, which it is.

Also I have Kaspersky Internet Security 2009. This keeps reporting that my computer is at risk and I need to update. I've updated over a dozen times but it doesn't seem to change and is still telling me it needs to update. These are ther first problems I have noticed. I hope I don't find more. Does anyone have any advice as to how to get my day and date correct and how to convince Kaspersky it's up to date?

Vista 64 & Vista 32 Dual Boot Issue

Mar 26, 2008

I had an Vista 32 bit version installed and which was used fine.

3 days before I had upgrade my PC's memory to 4G, then I find Vista 32 Bit version can not recognize all the memory. So I try to install an Vista 64 Bit version for the test to check if the 64 bit system is ok for me.

The problem is, Vista 32 was installed on to the 3rd partition of the harddisk, usually the drive letter will be E in Windows XP and previous version windows, although it in Vista it display as C drive. I tried to install the 64 Bit Vista in to the 4th partiton. After all the drivers and applications install completed, that seems so far so good. Then I find my previous F drive now names C. The Drive C in Vista 32 Bit names E now. When
I try to boot into Vista 32, the error message : winload.exe could not find.

I used bcdedit try to redirect the device and osdevice to E drive, Vista 32 still could not start normally, the system will hang up in the blue desktop background, seems can not load user profile or sth like that.

I have check the E drive, all the files of Vista 32 are still there.Anyone have any good idea about fix the Vista 32 bit boot and keep the Vista 64 bit also?

Having Two Copies Of Vista On One Computer: Install Vista On The Smaller Drive, Boot With That, And Access Files On The Other Drive

Dec 25, 2008

Right now I have a single 640 gig HDD that everything's on. I've got a laptop too that I'm gonna be taking out on rotations eventually. I wanted to get a new smaller (250GB) HDD and put my Vista on that, so my 640 will be data only (then I could take it with me in an external enclosure and leave the desktop for my mom to use til I come back and collect it). I was gonna DBAN the 640, but I wanted to get the data off of it first- about 170 GB of stuff that I'd rather not lose.

My question is-

Can I install Vista on the smaller drive, boot with that, and access files on the other drive? Would it work if there's another Vista running on the other drive? (both SATA).

OS's Vista And XP Cannot Get It To Boot

Jan 31, 2009

I have two OS's Vista and also XP and its XP that is the problem in so much as I cannot get it to boot, I get the error ntldr is missing, and no matter if I put the disk in and try to boot from the disk, the system still won't play ball, it just tells me to ctrl-alt-del to reboot, this is despite me pressing any key to boot from the disk.

I really do not know what else to do, getting XP to work is not a major issue for me, but it would be nice to see what I have on that drive. As a point of note, I have both my operating systems in caddies, so I can remove Vista and slide XP in whenever I want to, incase some of you have not heard of caddies.

Boot Off Vista Cd

Sep 1, 2008

I'm attempting to install Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit. The Pioneer DVD drives come with a cd with drivers on them This is a brand new build everything brand new, and my first install for the Operating System Attempting to set up RAID so heres the problem, I try to boot off of the Vista CD. For some reason before it can install, it stops and says that I need to select a driver for the CD Roms, but nothing is there to select. It says that it can't find any, and that if needed, to put in a cd to install the drivers. I do so, it says it still can't find any. I can't move on, and I have tried EVERYTHING. I'm hoping that someone else has had this problem and has solved it. I've tried a different CD rom that does not require loadable drivers to work, and the same problem exists. Why does Windows Vista need drivers for the CD Rom if it is able to get that far without the 'needed' drivers?! I am so confused and I don't know where to turn.
