computer is 4 days old.keyboard going funny for no reason.nothing loose.
trying to email and letters sometimes dont appear or get stuck.i'll look up from typing long sentence and its missing bits. does that make sense?
pressing the keys feels the same as normal, nothing sticky yet when writing it 'sticks'. or i have to type very very slowly to get a letter out.sometimes it works ,sometimes it wont but then will give me many of the same letter in a row ie repeating it depending on how many times i've pressed..
i phoned Dell and they suggested i turn off computer and restart-no good.
and then said try a different keyboard so we can work out whether its that or a software program.
i dont know what to do now cos my old keyboard is wireless so i obviously cant plug it in like the current one.
how do i do this?
i am only a beginner so please can you only give really simple answers with detailed explanation/directions. its not my computer but my husbands so i dont know how any of it was set up.

Hey guys, I recently ordered a dell inspiron 1420. I wish to install vista ultimate 64bit on it, however, I want to know if its even possible? Since, I do not see a 64bit section for Dell's driver download website.
I bought a Dell Inspiron in June 2008, with Vista SP1 factory installed;pgraded now to SP2. After many fruitless attempts at running W7 Upgrade Advisor, it tells me that the Hard Drive Controller is incompatible, and furthermore that I need 15GB free disc space, but I have only 14GB. I have the following hard discs:
I have more than 800GB available. I have not seen any mention anywhere of others getting a message like the one I got. Has anyone encountered anything like this?

I have a Dell A960 All-in-One Printer installed (Hardwired) onto my Vista Ultimate x64 Machine..I have installed the Drivers for it and it is working fine on this machine. Now, I have an HP Laptop running XP on it, which is connected to my Network, wirelessly. I can see my network and printer and put folders and files into my network folders/computers. It appears that I can print as well, as when I print, the window pops up and says "Printing". Problem: It won't print! I go into my Printer in my Vista Machine and it shows in the status "Deleting" The Printer is "shared".
My Dell XPS with Windows Vista constantly locks up. I thought maybe it was McAfee causing the problem so I uninstalled it and installed Norton. The problem is still occuring. I even upgraded the ram from 2 gb to 4. I turned off the Gadgets on the sidebar, run defrag, and reboot. It doesn't seem to matter what I'm doing, whether I'm in Windows Mail, using IE7 or in a program. I've read many posts regarding this but haven't found a resolution to my problem. If anyone has some new advice, I would love to hear it.
I just restored my Dell Inspiron to it's original factory settings. It has Vista Home 32 bit. I got the "Reset was succesfull" screen. Now at start up I get my user name (there was always only one user acct.) and when I type my password it does not accept my password. It may be possible that when I purchased the computer three years ago I used a different password and then changed it and have just orgatten that I did that but I doubt it. Should I just throw this thing away or is ther any solution to get past the welcome screen?
This is a very interesting release. It adds full support for a lot of new hardware. AMCC/3WARE users will be happy to see SMART data for all of their EIDE/SATA hard disks. Full Intel QST support has been added too (you need to RUN AS ADMIN on some OS). Support for new SMBuses (like nVidia MCP79 and SiS968) is there. New chips (like the ADT7470 and the ADT7462) have been added and support has been improved for some others. ITET8720 identification has been greatly improved. DELL support is now tested on more chipsets. Windows7 32 and 64 bit has been added and verified. Both the installer and the executable are now digitally signed. A lot of refinements, improvements and bug fixes were applied. So who brokered that deal? I have a Studio Laptop I was going to reinstall the OS but can't because I have to wait for the owner to get me the Dell DVDs. So how does that work? Are the days of clean installations of Windows over?
i have been able to locate wireless networks and connect to unsecured ones, but i have been unable to connect ot my WPA-PSK wireless lan network. I tried removing the security, and this works, but as soon as i re-enable the security, it's not having it. i've tried using different forms of encryption but still no luck.
My 1 year old Dell Inspiron 518 came with Vista Home PremiumX64, and the warranty expired a week ago. They won't talk to me without charge.
I have a blue screen. One error was a Stop 0x00000050, Fatal System Error c0000221 - Unknown Hard ErrorSystemRootSystem32 tdll.dll. Another blue screen error read, 0xc004D301 Security Processor reported the trusted data store was tampered.

I haven't been able to get Windows to load at all, nothing I try is working, and I don't want to spend money for servicemen to come in. Anything I can do that's not too involved?
I have a Belkin wireless-N router. I have 3 computers hardwired, and 3 computers that are wireless with a passphase. My new Vista computer is finding my network, but when I ask to connect I receive an "Enter Credetials" window asking for a User name, Password, and Logon Domain.Never saw this with XP. I have a DELL Inspiron 1525 Laptop Computer. I shut down irregularly yesterday, and now, when I try to start it up, I get a message stating:
Windows Error Recovery
You have two options:
Launch Startup Repair (Recommended) Launch Windows Normally
When I try either option it takes FOREVER, and I never get back into Windows Vista. With the first option it just brings up a progress status bar like it is doing something, then the screen goes blank (perhaps a timeout on the laptop). For the second option it just brings up the progress status bar, and it seems like it is doing something....but after hours it is still showing that progress bar.
My Dell XPS laptop has a keyboard problem. The right hand shift key no longer works when typing uppercase letters but still works with the arrow keys when highlighting text. I don't think that the key has actually failed completely. I am not familiar with laptops as this is the first one I have owned.
I have Dell XPS 1530 with Windows Vista 32 bit Home premium. Recently Dell Japan replaced its hard drive and during windows installation they named User account other than what I had asked. When I asked them how to change it because I do not like that. I am told only Re-installation of windows can solve that.(that is very lengthy process) But after visiting your forum I come to understand that it is possible to create new account and delete other User Account - Create After reading that I contacted Dell Japan and they took 45 minutes and created new user account but when I use newly created account some of desktop icon disappear and they told me that I have to re-install those software whose Icon I can not see and also have to re-write information in windows e-mail account. How to delete my First(wrongly created by Dell) user account and retain new user account? Is there any way I do not install all other software once again which I had been using from first created user account? if not then what to do?
I am running Vista on a Dell D630. My docking station works fine if I boot up with the notebook docked. And my system works fine if I un-dock it. However, if I re-dock the system while the system is turned on (either in standby or awake), some of the time the re-dock will be unsuccessful. By "unsuccessful," I mean that nothing comes up on my monitor (CRT), and there is no way to "wake up" my screen so I can resume working on my system. Even if I undock my system at this point, I can't get the LCD screen to turn back on. So I end up needing to hold down the power button and do a cold re-boot. It drives me crazy. Yesterday it happened FOUR times (every time I came back to my desk and re-docked my system). Does anyone have any recommendations?
I've had a Dell XPS M1210 for about 15 months. I am running Vista Ultimate on it, now with SP1, before the RC1. Several times, I've had problems with files getting corrupt (about every month), which have made program being non-working. I also have problems with the wireless networking, but that's another problem...
I fixed the files with chkdsk and that sometimes solved it. I can't remember all files, but it has been the login, photoshop, office, logitech cam e.g. I couldn't even start up the computer without getting the message - file corrupt, run chkdsk several times. Luckily, the RC1 solved everything. Unfortunately, I had to uninstall it to install SP1 and that time everything crashed.
Now I have used the Dell restore to get the computer running (in April). Everything worked fine, but now I have gotten the files corrupt messages twice. Chkdsk has fixed it, everything seems to work ok. But I think it is only a matter of time before there will be more problems. Running the sfc/scannow shows there are some corrupt windows files. Anyway, I called Dell about this and they recommend me doing a clean install from CDs instead of their image on my computer. I doubt that this will work. The only thing is that this will take an enormous amount of time (since I have to install Adobe CS3, Office, etc), even though they claim it is quick. Their support is pure BS, IMO.
When I show a powerpoint presentation using Powerpoint 2003 the computer (and display on screen) will occasionally blink three times (the creen goes black for about 1 second each time) - something seems to be resetting.
I have purchased a new wireless adsl router Aztech dsl605ew. I tried to connect wifi with my vista dell laptop but message shown that: Windows cannot connect to xxx. I used my other xp laptop to connect and I'm able to connect to the internet via wifi.
I have been asked to look at a problem with a computer at our local social club. It's a Dell Inspiron 530. It was not showing anything to do with Networking in the device manager so I went to the BIOS and enabled the network.
When I restarted Vista this time the network device was showing in the device manager but that there were no drivers installed for it. If I can manage to locate the Vista installation CD would that help me to get it working? If I cannot locate the original CD would it be okay to use my own CD instead?
We recently set up my husband's E1705 (with Vista), instead of my older and slower (painfully slow at times) 1150 (with XP). I installed the 'drivers and utilities' software from CD onto the 1705. After many attempts with no printing, I now see that neither the printer nor our digital camera are on the 'compatible' list for Vista. Is there anything that we can do so that we don't have to use my computer exclusively when we want to print or upload digital pics?
I already have this on my Inspiron 1545 laptop, but I wanted this on my old desktop as well, which has Windows XP Professional. Which of these sites contains the right Dell Dock, well at least for my situation. Drivers and Downloads Or: The Dell Dock, by Stardock : Powered by ObjectDock
