May 1, 2008
i have been able to locate wireless networks and connect to unsecured ones, but i have been unable to connect ot my WPA-PSK wireless lan network. I tried removing the security, and this works, but as soon as i re-enable the security, it's not having it. i've tried using different forms of encryption but still no luck.

Hey guys, I recently ordered a dell inspiron 1420. I wish to install vista ultimate 64bit on it, however, I want to know if its even possible? Since, I do not see a 64bit section for Dell's driver download website.

I bought a Dell Inspiron in June 2008, with Vista SP1 factory installed;pgraded now to SP2. After many fruitless attempts at running W7 Upgrade Advisor, it tells me that the Hard Drive Controller is incompatible, and furthermore that I need 15GB free disc space, but I have only 14GB. I have the following hard discs:
I have more than 800GB available. I have not seen any mention anywhere of others getting a message like the one I got. Has anyone encountered anything like this?

My 1 year old Dell Inspiron 518 came with Vista Home PremiumX64, and the warranty expired a week ago. They won't talk to me without charge.
I have a blue screen. One error was a Stop 0x00000050, Fatal System Error c0000221 - Unknown Hard ErrorSystemRootSystem32
tdll.dll. Another blue screen error read, 0xc004D301 Security Processor reported the trusted data store was tampered.
I was able to go under the Boot Menu and run a diagnostic. It said Error Code 2000-0123 (Memory Integrity Test Failed).
I haven't been able to get Windows to load at all, nothing I try is working, and I don't want to spend money for servicemen to come in. Anything I can do that's not too involved?

I have a DELL Inspiron 1525 Laptop Computer. I shut down irregularly yesterday, and now, when I try to start it up, I get a message stating:
Windows Error Recovery
You have two options:
Launch Startup Repair (Recommended)
Launch Windows Normally
When I try either option it takes FOREVER, and I never get back into Windows Vista. With the first option it just brings up a progress status bar like it is doing something, then the screen goes blank (perhaps a timeout on the laptop). For the second option it just brings up the progress status bar, and it seems like it is doing something....but after hours it is still showing that progress bar.

I have been asked to look at a problem with a computer at our local social club. It's a Dell Inspiron 530. It was not showing anything to do with Networking in the device manager so I went to the BIOS and enabled the network.
When I restarted Vista this time the network device was showing in the device manager but that there were no drivers installed for it. If I can manage to locate the Vista installation CD would that help me to get it working? If I cannot locate the original CD would it be okay to use my own CD instead?

My new Vista computer is finding my network, but when I ask to connect I receive an "Enter Credetials" window asking for a User name, Password, and Logon Domain.Never saw this with XP. My Dell XPS with Windows Vista constantly locks up. I thought maybe it was McAfee causing the problem so I uninstalled it and installed Norton. The problem is still occuring. I even upgraded the ram from 2 gb to 4. I turned off the Gadgets on the sidebar, run defrag, and reboot. It doesn't seem to matter what I'm doing, whether I'm in Windows Mail, using IE7 or in a program. I've read many posts regarding this but haven't found a resolution to my problem. If anyone has some new advice, I would love to hear it.

I have Dell XPS 1530 with Windows Vista 32 bit Home premium. Recently Dell Japan replaced its hard drive and during windows installation they named User account other than what I had asked. When I asked them how to change it because I do not like that. I am told only Re-installation of windows can solve that.(that is very lengthy process) But after visiting your forum I come to understand that it is possible to create new account and delete other User Account - Create After reading that I contacted Dell Japan and they took 45 minutes and created new user account but when I use newly created account some of desktop icon disappear and they told me that I have to re-install those software whose Icon I can not see and also have to re-write information in windows e-mail account. How to delete my First(wrongly created by Dell) user account and retain new user account? Is there any way I do not install all other software once again which I had been using from first created user account? if not then what to do?

I just discovered that my Username and Inspiron Folders are empty, with a blank folder picture as icon. When I click on either one of them I get the "Open with" scenario. Yet by right-clicking I am able to access "Properties". According to it the folders were modified on July 5 and 6 respectively and not by me, of course. Is there a way to correct this and, if so, how? Have no idea what could have caused it and can live with it, if necessary. Nothing else is effected.

I am the owner of Dell Inspiron 1420 with NVidia Geforce 1420 128 mb. I've installed Vista Ultimate x64 with all the drivers automatically detect and windows functioning normally. But the only problem I am facing now is the graphics memory which is important for me to be able to play games which requires 256 mb graphics memory.
My vista uses approx. 1872 mb of shared memory which is absolutely crazy leaving me with 128 mb of graphics memory. Before, I got 256 mb of graphics memory in windows xp and i can play almost any latest games. I've also wondered, is there any way to change the graphics memory size or the shared memory size? Even i've updated my BIOS, still it wont allow me to change it. "Vista Ultimate x64 is the fastest and and stable among any other Vistas!"

I have 2 wireless cable modems. One an older Ambit 2000 wireless and another is a docis 3 Ubee. I'm beta testing the D3 modem for work and can hard wire into it fine, connect wireless with winXP just fine and on my ipod touch fine. Vista will see it, connect to it, but I get Local only. This is where I'm stuck. Vista will connect just fine to my other wireless connection just fine, using that one right now. Just through the D3 modem it wont connect to the internet.

Just got a new Dell Desktop with wireless card pre-installed. I have an existing wireless router that all three of my other machines (XP) can see and connect to just fine. No matter what I seem to do, the Vista machine tells me there are no networks available. I've tried re-booting, re-freshing the Network list, waiting and re-freshing, turning off various automatic features, etc. Nothing seems to work and I need to connect to the Internet to update the PC with the numerous security patches Vista needs when first
starting up.

I know I could physically look at the card and get the number, but I would really like to learn how to find it through the software.

I'm running Vista Home edition on my laptop and when I use my laptop at home, it keeps on connecting to an unsecured default wireless network, instead of connecting to my home network, which is named and is secured. I guess one of my neighbours decided to just run their wireless network like that. How can I prevent my laptop from connecting to other networks other than the ones I specify? I've looked in the settings and options in the wireless connection management utility in Vista and couldn't find a way to do that. Perhaps i didn't look hard enough,

Newbie to Vista also so I am looking for your expertise/input to guide me in a computer selection...I am looking to buy a laptop. Do not need many bells or whistles, however, here are the specs: .......I have been told that running Microsoft Windows Vista on wireless will take "forever" to load with only 2GB on this computer. Is this true? My needs are very limited for this laptop, just looking to perform limited work on it...e-mail, small business folders etc. I apologize for my ignorance, as I said I am a newbie in many ways and hoping to learn as I go. Stumbled upon this web-site while looking for information on Windows Vista.

I have a Vista laptop with Home Basic. My other 3 XP laptops can connect to my wireless network ok. I use a Vigor 2600 with firmware v1.06.7.04.2 with wpa/psk 64 bit, mac enabled and hidden ssid. On my Vista laptop from the control panel, network & sharing centre, if i select connect to a network, the following shows; Unamed network - security enabled (there are no other networks round about me). If I select"manage networks" I can see my own named network. I cannot conect to this unless i remove my encrtptionand as numerous forums have reported Vista does not offer PSK when manually configuring a wireless network.

computer is 4 days old.keyboard going funny for no reason.nothing loose.
trying to email and letters sometimes dont appear or get stuck.i'll look up from typing long sentence and its missing bits. does that make sense?
pressing the keys feels the same as normal, nothing sticky yet when writing it 'sticks'. or i have to type very very slowly to get a letter out.sometimes it works ,sometimes it wont but then will give me many of the same letter in a row ie repeating it depending on how many times i've pressed..
i phoned Dell and they suggested i turn off computer and restart-no good.
and then said try a different keyboard so we can work out whether its that or a software program.
i dont know what to do now cos my old keyboard is wireless so i obviously cant plug it in like the current one.
how do i do this?
i am only a beginner so please can you only give really simple answers with detailed explanation/directions. its not my computer but my husbands so i dont know how any of it was set up.
