Dec 7, 2009I have a Dell XPS 420 desktop with 2 CD/DVD drives. I want to copy a DVD to my computer. How do I do that? When I place the disc in the drive a box comes up to play it but not to copy it.

May 1, 2008My old Windows XP PC died months ago (motherboard problems) and so I took out the hard drive (which still functions fine) and put it in my new PC, but I can't seem to copy any of my files in the My Documents folder from the old drive to my newer larger drive. I've had this drive in here for the last several months and have had no problems writing other files to this 'older' drive (250 gig Maxtor 16mb cache, 7,200RPM drive (btw it's only a year old), but when I try to copy files to another drive I get the following error message: "You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy to this file." This only happens with files that are in the My Documents folder. My current login has administrator rights, so I'm thinking some how this has something to do with this drive being from a different computer's installation of XP.

Oct 8, 2009computer is 4 days old.keyboard going funny for no reason.nothing loose.
trying to email and letters sometimes dont appear or get stuck.i'll look up from typing long sentence and its missing bits. does that make sense?
pressing the keys feels the same as normal,nothing sticky yet when writing it 'sticks'. or i have to type very very slowly to get a letter out.sometimes it works ,sometimes it wont but then will give me many of the same letter in a row ie repeating it depending on how many times i've pressed..
i phoned Dell and they suggested i turn off computer and restart-no good.
and then said try a different keyboard so we can work out whether its that or a software program.
i dont know what to do now cos my old keyboard is wireless so i obviously cant plug it in like the current one.
how do i do this?
i am only a beginner so please can you only give really simple answers with detailed explanation/directions. its not my computer but my husbands so i dont know how any of it was set up.

May 1, 2009I have a Dell A960 All-in-One Printer installed (Hardwired) onto my Vista Ultimate x64 Machine..I have installed the Drivers for it and it is working fine on this machine.Now, I have an HP Laptop running XP on it, which is connected to my Network, wirelessly. I can see my network and printer and put folders and files into my network folders/computers. It appears that I can print as well, as when I print, the window pops up and says "Printing". Feb 13, 2008My Dell XPS with Windows Vista constantly locks up. I thought maybe it was McAfee causing the problem so I uninstalled it and installed Norton. The problem is still occuring. I even upgraded the ram from 2 gb to 4. I turned off the Gadgets on the sidebar, run defrag, and reboot. It doesn't seem to matter what I'm doing, whether I'm in Windows Mail, using IE7 or in a program. I've read many posts regarding this but haven't found a resolution to my problem. Jul 25, 2009I just restored my Dell Inspiron to it's original factory settings. It has Vista Home 32 bit. I got the "Reset was succesfull" screen. Now at start up I get my user name (there was always only one user acct.) and when I type my password it does not accept my password. It may be possible that when I purchased the computer three years ago I used a different password and then changed it and have just orgatten that I did that but I doubt it. Should I just throw this thing away or is ther any solution to get past the welcome screen?

tdll.dll. Another blue screen error read, 0xc004D301 Security Processor reported the trusted data store was tampered.
I was able to go under the Boot Menu and run a diagnostic. It said Error Code 2000-0123 (Memory Integrity Test Failed).
I haven't been able to get Windows to load at all, nothing I try is working, and I don't want to spend money for servicemen to come in. Anything I can do that's not too involved?

When I try either option it takes FOREVER, and I never get back into Windows Vista. With the first option it just brings up a progress status bar like it is doing something, then the screen goes blank (perhaps a timeout on the laptop). For the second option it just brings up the progress status bar, and it seems like it is doing something....but after hours it is still showing that progress bar.

May 2, 2009My Dell XPS laptop has a keyboard problem. The right hand shift key no longer works when typing uppercase letters but still works with the arrow keys when highlighting text. How to delete my First(wrongly created by Dell) user account and retain new user account? Jun 6, 2008I am running Vista on a Dell D630. My docking station works fine if I boot up with the notebook docked. And my system works fine if I un-dock it. However, if I re-dock the system while the system is turned on (either in standby or awake), some of the time the re-dock will be unsuccessful. By "unsuccessful," I mean that nothing comes up on my monitor (CRT), and there is no way to "wake up" my screen so I can resume working on my system. Even if I undock my system at this point, I can't get the LCD screen to turn back on. So I end up needing to hold down the power button and do a cold re-boot. It drives me crazy. Yesterday it happened FOUR times (every time I came back to my desk and re-docked my system). Does anyone have any
recommendations?
Multiple Corrupt Files Occuring On Dell XPS M1210
Jul 7, 2008I've had a Dell XPS M1210 for about 15 months. I am running Vista Ultimate on it, now with SP1, before the RC1. Several times, I've had problems with files getting corrupt (about every month), which have made program being non-working. I also have problems with the wireless networking, but that's another problem...
I fixed the files with chkdsk and that sometimes solved it. I can't remember all files, but it has been the login, photoshop, office, logitech cam e.g. I couldn't even start up the computer without getting the message - file corrupt, run chkdsk several times. Luckily, the RC1 solved everything. Unfortunately, I had to uninstall it to install SP1 and that time everything crashed.
Now I have used the Dell restore to get the computer running (in April). Everything worked fine, but now I have gotten the files corrupt messages twice. Chkdsk has fixed it, everything seems to work ok. But I think it is only a matter of time before there will be more problems. Running the sfc/scannow shows there are some corrupt windows files. Anyway, I called Dell about this and they recommend me doing a clean install from CDs instead of their image on my computer. I doubt that this will work. The only thing is that this will take an enormous amount of time (since I have to install Adobe CS3, Office, etc), even though they claim it is quick. Their support is pure BS, IMO.

Feb 20, 2009I have been asked to look at a problem with a computer at our local social club. It's a Dell Inspiron 530. It was not showing anything to do with Networking in the device manager so I went to the BIOS and enabled the network.
When I restarted Vista this time the network device was showing in the device manager but that there were no drivers installed for it. If I can manage to locate the Vista installation CD would that help me to get it working? If I cannot locate the original CD would it be okay to use my own CD instead?
