My brother runs Vista and is using Windows mail. He can't view ..pps files. I got him to download the microsoft Power Point Viewer. This program does work on his computer and he can view them now, however, when he clicks on a .pps file from windows mail it tells him he needs to associate the file. So, we did that thru the control panel and it says the Microsoft viewer is the default program. So what do we do now? How can we get it so that he just clicks on the .pps attachment from his windows mail and have it automatically run?

I just did a plain old save in powerpoint which saved my file as a .pptx, and for some reason this file does not associate itself with powerpoint. If I double click the .pptx file I get the "what program do you want to open with this" dialogue. I've tried browsing where it ought to live, and went as far as C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice121033 without ever finding the executable. As of now the only way I can actually open these files is by opening powerpoint, then selecting open file, and opening the .pptx program.

It won't even let me type www.vistax64.com because the window "refreshes" so quickly. What I did, was going through my active processes and started to end processes to see what would stop the "refresh". I found that when I stopped the processes for explorer, my window became useable. But this meant that I don't have any desktop icons or start button, taskbar, etc. The problem is not related to the video driver, since I am using a brand new driver provided by HP. my computer is a tablet PC. It was working fine until I decided to upgrade the bluetooth driver (which was made available on the HP website).

I bought a new PC two days ago along with Gforce 9600 GSO 384 mb DDR3 and I am running windows Vista. My problem is that when vista ask for permission to open any program my monitor blinks for a nano second( monitor turns black) otherwise the system is performing good. Is it the problem with the old CRT monitor or some kind of driver problem.

When starting up there's just a blank black screen with a blinking cursor on the top left of screen.
I waited for hours and still won't boot.
I tried fixmbr, rebuildbcd from Vista DVD and it didn't help.
Any help? I'm tired of reinstalling Vista again and again.

My monitor will blink randomly, and usually come right back on, but sometimes it will be off for 10 secs or more.
Hardware:
I'm not sure about the motherboard, I'm not at home. But it has PCIe, DDR3, Socket 775
550W PSU (came with the case, not sure what exactly.)
Intel Q6600 Quad Core
Corsair 6GB DDR3 RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 9800GTX hooked up via HDMI to a 32" HDTV.
Now, the only thing that has changed is the mobo and ram. I haven't updated the BIOS on the mobo yet, but I suspect that may be the issue. I have the latest drivers and updates for vista.
Anyone had problems with a blinking screen before? I've been told it may be that the video card is overheating... that's not it, because this happens under no load at all.
I've also heard it could be the PSU, but I had no problems like this for 4 months before I replaced the MOBO and RAM.

I am new to this forum and to Vista Ult64. Today I had a nightmare experience. I was running a standard PowerPoint 2007 presentation from my new HP laptop with Vista Ult64 connected to a standard projector and the laptop went very strange switching in and out of the presentation while the CPU was showing an extraordinary amount of activity (especially when I was playing short low res AVIs). It even crushed Powerpoint at some stage. At home when I am not connected to a projector all is well with no drama at all.

I have a new Dell Inspiron laptop (Vista) and I'm running it to my Samsung 50" DLP TV (HLN507W). I'm using the TV as the external monitor using a standard 15-pin cable (the TV has a 15-pin input specifically for this application). I can hook up the laptop to the TV and see the desktop on the TV just fine. However, about 30 seconds after I hook the laptop up to the TV, the TV starts to blink (about every second or so). I never had this problem with my old Dell desktop (running XP), and I had the desktop hooked up to the TV for about a year. I've tried all five resolution settings on the laptop, but they all have the same problem. The Samsung manual suggests 1024x768 as the optimal resolution, but again, the same blinking problem results.

I've got a new PC witn vista on it and i noticed that the edges on every window is blinking and it effects every windows i open espically the search bar in windows. Well i've searched every where for a solution and I found some. Some say the Display card, some say Bluetooth driver, some say ..... etc etc. Non of these solution helped me, and i bet som people are still buged with this problem.
Well I've found the solution Click on start and type "Services", Scroll down to "Shell Hardware Detection" right click on it and choose "Properties" Disable it from "Startup type" and Stop the service, a message will tell that another service will be stoped, and it asks you if you want to go on, well if you want to get rid of the blinking, you'd better go on. After stoping the service you will notice the blinking is gone, but just to make sure, restart the computer and check. I am sorry for not beeing able to attach any pictures to make it easier for some people, But i'm not good with writing threads either.

I’m using a PowerPoint 2007 application for digital image competitions at my local camera club. I do not know PowerPoint, except to run this application, which was developed by others. It reads files to build a slide show. There are a couple of default options that need changing with each execution. I’ve figured out how to change these settings, but I’d really like to just change the defaults.
1. Enable macros
2. Font size (filename that is displayed for winning slides). Please give complete “click here; click there” instructions.

I have a Dell Inspiron notbeook, pre-installed with Vista Home Premium. Apart from what came from the manufacturer, this machines is pretty much clean - that is other than the Trend Micro Security suite installed, there is nothing else. Maybe the Adobe Flash and Adobe reader. I have downloaded the SP1 and installed it. The installation went smooth until it shutdowns and restart - message was something like - 1 of 3 updates... x% It went for about 6 hours apparently idle - the screen is black with the cursor blinking on top left corner and non responsive. I decided to turn it off and when reboot the machine displays a message - Resuming Windows and goes back to a black screen with the cursor on the top left corner and unresponsive.. Tried to reboot in safe mode and it does not work - it just displays a message Resuming Windows and goes back to a black screen...

Couple of days back at the time of booting my laptop I pluged in my iphone for charging. As it saw a new drive it started to scandisk it. I unplugged my iphone and restarted my computer as I was in a hurry. The scan was just taking a lot of time. After that my vista is not starting up. It goes and get stuck on a blank screen with the cursor blinking on the top left corner. As I have lost my original repair CD I made a recovery disk by downloading a vista recovery software for X64. Ran that and it did some thing and fixed the problem. But still I cannot boot my vista. It gets stuck on the same screen. Using this disk, system restore and complete recovery is not working either. Any one has any other tricks of making me pass the black screen. :-)

My system restore fails every time I attempt it. This has happened the last 3 times I had a need to attempt restore. (Three attempts separated by months in time, about different issues.) This time, I am thinking something may be wrong with my system restore function.
In this case, it is simply a matter of trying to roll back a browser update.
I saw a whole list of available restore points, and I went to the second one back - from only a few days ago. The restore failed.
I am using Windows Vista Home Premium, OEM from Gateway Laptop about 1.5 yrs old. I allow most updates.

computer is 4 days old.keyboard going funny for no reason.nothing loose.
trying to email and letters sometimes dont appear or get stuck.i'll look up from typing long sentence and its missing bits. does that make sense?
pressing the keys feels the same as normal, nothing sticky yet when writing it 'sticks'. or i have to type very very slowly to get a letter out.sometimes it works ,sometimes it wont but then will give me many of the same letter in a row ie repeating it depending on how many times i've pressed..
i phoned Dell and they suggested i turn off computer and restart-no good.
and then said try a different keyboard so we can work out whether its that or a software program.
i dont know what to do now cos my old keyboard is wireless so i obviously cant plug it in like the current one.
how do i do this?
i am only a beginner so please can you only give really simple answers with detailed explanation/directions. its not my computer but my husbands so i dont know how any of it was set up.

I have the following hard discs:
I have more than 800GB available. I have not seen any mention anywhere of others getting a message like the one I got. Has anyone encountered anything like this?
