I have Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit SP1. Recently I installed Power Point Viewer 2007. Today an update is available. It is called MS Office Power Point Viewer SP1. The term SP1 confuses me. Do I need to install this update since I already have SP1
A friend installed the Powerpoint viewer. He's still having problems with the file association throwing an error when doubling clicking in Windows Mail. I seem to recall that there was a specific Vista Bug/Fix in this area. Any pointers?
Both XP/Vista Concern: XPS Viewer EP (set as default, on opening XPS files) I can mazimise on open the shortcut XPS Viewer EP, however anytime I click on a XPS file, it opens in a normal windows. Moreover, Windows XP/Vista remember the last window size, XPS Viewer does not. Need opening XPS files in the XPS Viewer EP Maximized on Open (file option, registry?),
I just did a plain old save in powerpoint which saved my file as a .pptx, and for some reason this file does not associate itself with powerpoint. If I double click the .pptx file I get the "what program do you want to open with this" dialogue. I've tried browsing where it ought to live, and went as far as C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice121033 without ever finding the executable. As of now the only way I can actually open these files is by opening powerpoint, then selecting open file, and opening the .pptx program.
I am new to this forum and to Vista Ult64. Today I had a nightmare experience. I was running a standard PowerPoint 2007 presentation from my new HP laptop with Vista Ult64 connected to a standard projector and the laptop went very strange switching in and out of the presentation while the CPU was showing an extraordinary amount of activity (especially when I was playing short low res AVIs). It even crushed Powerpoint at some stage. At home when I am not connected to a projector all is well with no drama at all.
I’m using a PowerPoint 2007 application for digital image competitions at my local camera club. I do not know PowerPoint, except to run this application, which was developed by others. It reads files to build a slide show. There are a couple of default options that need changing with each execution. I’ve figured out how to change these settings, but I’d really like to just change the defaults.
1. Enable macros
2. Font size (filename that is displayed for winning slides). Please give complete “click here; click there” instructions.
Whenever I do anything on PowerPoint, Excel, Word and try to save my material it freezes up and gives me this error: Description: A problem caused this program to stop interacting with Windows.

Installed Office 2003 on new computer which is running Vista Home Premium 64 bit. Unable to change the Office Assistant image from the paper clip. Receive message "not enough memory to perform this operation.: Computer has 4g of memory! Microsoft says this is an unresolved compatability problem with Office 2003.
My system restore fails every time I attempt it. This has happened the last 3 times I had a need to attempt restore. (Three attempts separated by months in time, about different issues.) This time, I am thinking something may be wrong with my system restore function.
In this case, it is simply a matter of trying to roll back a browser update.
I saw a whole list of available restore points, and I went to the second one back - from only a few days ago. The restore failed.
I am using Windows Vista Home Premium, OEM from Gateway Laptop about 1.5 yrs old. I allow most updates.
in windows mail, vista 32 bit, when I go to open an attachment I keep getting a message that powerpoint can't read it. How can I change / what do I change to be able to read/view the attachment?
When I show a powerpoint presentation using Powerpoint 2003 the computer (and display on screen) will occasionally blink three times (the creen goes black for about 1 second each time) - something seems to be resetting.
Originally, I had Office 2003 installed in my computer, & a trial version of 2007 that had already expired.
Today I installed a full version of Microsoft Office 2007, without removing any of the other two versions from my computer. I realized that it seemed to automatically remove the older version. I`m not bother about it not being there, as I got the new version, but I wonder if this is an automatic uninstalling that Office does, or if the version is still there but I can`t see it, as I would like to remove it properly if it`s still somewhere in my computer.
I checked in Control Panel & the only thing I can see is "Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007", the full version I just installed, & everything that come with it. No 2003 anywhere.
I know you can do this document-by-document by opening each document individually and clicking "Upgrade" or whatever, but is there a way to convert all your Office documents at once?
near the bottem i started and i have up 400 of the same errors. here is one going back to the start of the year. can anyone understand any of this? and also new critical errors just popes up saying something about my ipod.....its not plugged in

I already followed closely that tutorial Brink made, to boot on safe mode disable WinMGMT, etc and it didn't work. I need Event Viewer to work so that Diskeeper works.
The following error i receive when trying to start the service by Services.MSC Windows could not start the the Windows Event Log service on local Computer. Error 4201: The instance name passed was not recognized as valid by a WMI Data Provider. (The service is set to Automatic, tho)
Not sure if this is the correct place to post, but I can not get PP viewer to work. New computer running Vista, I downloaded the viewer and when I click on a link it comes up with the message to make sure it is linked to the correct program. I have gone into default assoc and PPS is connected to Power Point Viewer. It worked on XP Pro computer, what do I need to do? Have restarted after downloading thinking maybe that would work.
I've been struggling with this for a couple of days now without any success, I noticed the the event viewer would not start, it reported that "Event Service is unavailable. Verify that the service is running" Well, the service was not running and my attempts to start Windows Event log result in an "Error 5: Access is denied"
So to Google I go. I tried several things that I found there, taking ownership of files, resetting the whole system to default permissions by using a Microsoft utility. That reset everything except one folder that it reported as an error. That was the EtRTeventLog folder, this seems to locked out completely. I renamed the folder using Unlocker and Windows recreated a new folder but I still have the same problem.
I have a sound trigger for the 'Open program' event in Vista Basic sp2 x32 When my computer is idle and I "here" a program open the only thing I have to go by is the time it occurred. If I want to go to Event Viewer in Administrative Tools and see what this event was that triggered the event sound I'm overwhelmed with a bunch of categories and sub-categories. In order to find what opened at the specific time I need to check each category and sub-category. That is a real pain in the ass. I find no search capabilities in Event Viewer unless I've missed it. Is there some way of making a hunt for a specific time easier in Event Viewer? Or, is there some 3rd party software with the capability to sort all events by data and time??
Sometimes, when I search for items in the start menu, it gets iffy about using exact names. For example, if I type 'Event' (for Event Viewer), I get nothing. But, when I remove the 't', the Event Viewer shortcut comes up. The same thing happens when I search for the Task Scheduler (using 'Task' and removing the 'k')
Is there a viewer for enhanced metafiles in Vista? XP had an excellent "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer" which is either missing or unrecognizable in Vista.
My wife's laptop, running vista home basic, only came with works word processor loaded, and cannot open docx files. Although I put zamzar on her favourites it can, when busy, take time to get the link, so I am after some freeware to convert and/or view the file.I don't think she is fussed about being able to edit it. Can anyone recommend something?Although she only needs a very basic wp I was thinking about downloading openoffice for her, as I noticed in my searches that it had a file converter wizard- will that handle docx?
6 months ago i bought a new lappy and its been going really good with vista on it, no crashes of anykind that i can remember, but last week its just started playing up, Whenever i do anything explorer crashes, sometimes it resets itself and other times i have to load task manager and Run explorer.exe to get my desktop back. anytime i load IE7 it resets itself or anytime i load a new page it does it. It does it when i load explorer (file viewer) and within 10 sec it crashes and closes that with no error box or anything, simply resets or crashes and dosent come back. Same with control panel etc. i've tried my nod 32 virus scanner is up to date and i've run a spyware scan but its still crashing constantly. When i first load windows a missing file error pops up that never used to aswell, but its a different file missing each time i boot up.
Using Vista Home Premium 32-Bit. I have installed Microsoft 2007 Power Point Viewer. When I select it in File Association to open .pps files and then try to open a .pps file the association reverts back to the Microsoft Office Power Point Point selection. I have uninstalled the Microsoft Office Group to get away from the on screen nagging to purchase it so now I am unable to select any Power Point program that works. The system always reverts to an association that no longer exists.
I've googled this probelm and seen many people with same/similar. i've been trying for days to fix it with no success. i'll provide as much info as i can after running windows update my event viewer won't load with this error message - mmc has detected an error in a snap in and will unload it and 2 options:
1) report error to microsoft and shut down mmc 2)unload snap in and continue running............................
here's the event: After uneventful computing for several hours this AM - I began to play Vista Spider Solitaire for some relaxation & the entire game/cursor - everything froze as I was about to win. Typical! Please note the time discrepancy below from the event log - indicating the correct date/time (7/21) from the log as opposed to the 'description' that indicates the wrong time and date from the previous day (7/20).
