Power Point Viewer

Jun 18, 2008

Not sure if this is the correct place to post, but I can not get PP viewer to work. New computer running Vista, I downloaded the viewer and when I click on a link it comes up with the message to make sure it is linked to the correct program. I have gone into default assoc and PPS is connected to Power Point Viewer. It worked on XP Pro computer, what do I need to do? Have restarted after downloading thinking maybe that would work.

Power Point Viewer: Reverts Back

Apr 4, 2008

Using Vista Home Premium 32-Bit. I have installed Microsoft 2007 Power Point Viewer. When I select it in File Association to open .pps files and then try to open a .pps file the association reverts back to the Microsoft Office Power Point Point selection. I have uninstalled the Microsoft Office Group to get away from the on screen nagging to purchase it so now I am unable to select any Power Point program that works. The system always reverts to an association that no longer exists.

Power Point Presentation

Mar 23, 2008

My brother runs Vista and is using Windows mail. He can't view ..pps files. I got him to download the microsoft Power Point Viewer. This program does work on his computer and he can view them now, however, when he clicks on a .pps file from windows mail it tells him he needs to associate the file. So, we did that thru the control panel and it says the Microsoft viewer is the default program. So what do we do now? How can we get it so that he just clicks on the .pps attachment from his windows mail and have it automatically run?

Event Viewer Not Start

Apr 7, 2008

I've been struggling with this for a couple of days now without any success, I noticed the the event viewer would not start, it reported that "Event Service is unavailable. Verify that the service is running" Well, the service was not running and my attempts to start Windows Event log result in an "Error 5: Access is denied"

So to Google I go. I tried several things that I found there, taking ownership of files, resetting the whole system to default permissions by using a Microsoft
utility. That reset everything except one folder that it reported as an error. That was the EtRTeventLog folder, this seems to locked out completely. I renamed the folder using Unlocker and Windows recreated a new folder but I still have the same problem.

Event Viewer In Administrative Tools

Oct 17, 2009

I have a sound trigger for the 'Open program' event in Vista Basic sp2 x32 When my computer is idle and I "here" a program open the only thing I have to go by is the time it occurred. If I want to go to Event Viewer in Administrative Tools and see what this event was that triggered the event sound I'm overwhelmed with a bunch of categories and sub-categories. In order to find what opened at the specific time I need to check each category and sub-category. That is a real pain in the ass. I find no search capabilities in Event Viewer unless I've missed it. Is there some way of making a hunt for a specific time easier in Event Viewer? Or, is there some 3rd party software with the capability to sort all events by data and time??

Constant Explorer Crashing (file Viewer)

Mar 14, 2008

6 months ago i bought a new lappy and its been going really good with vista on it, no crashes of anykind that i can remember, but last week its just started playing up, Whenever i do anything explorer crashes, sometimes it resets itself and other times i have to load task manager and Run explorer.exe to get my desktop back. anytime i load IE7 it resets itself or anytime i load a new page it does it. It does it when i load explorer (file viewer) and within 10 sec it crashes and closes that with no error box or anything, simply resets or crashes and dosent come back. Same with control panel etc. i've tried my nod 32 virus scanner is up to date and i've run a spyware scan but its still crashing constantly. When i first load windows a missing file error pops up that never used to aswell, but its a different file missing each time i boot up.

Vista Photo Viewer Does Not Support The File

Nov 24, 2008

I recently bought a new PC that has the Windows Vista Home preloaded on it. It has no 3.5 floppy drive which I need as my family history files are all stored on floppy discs. I bought an external floppy disc drive, it installed ok, but will not read or open the data on the floppy discs. I get the message "too many arguments." I can't view any jpeg files from my floppy discs as I receive the message "Vista photo viewer does not support this file." My saved text Word documents on the floppy disc will not open either, I get the message that the files are corrupt. Also, when I insert the floppy disc into the external drive, I am instructed to Format the disc before using. I just want the external drive to read the data!!

Event Viewer Wont Load / Explorer Crash

Sep 11, 2009

So I'm still chasing down why explorer keeps crashing, it's quite annoying. But I guess in doing so I messed with some setting (or maybe I didn't and this happened) and now my event viewer wont run, I even tried running it through cmd with the following commands: eventvwr.msc /s and just eventvwr.msc

I just tried to run event viewer to chase down my explorer crash, then that wont even run, I have no idea what the heck is going on... There's no "cause" except explorer usually crashes when I right click, or when I'm in my desktop folder. Those are the two main things. As far as the eventviewer, I'm clueless. If need be, I can do system restore, but more than likely that's an extreme measure for such a small issue. Its more an annoyance than anything else, it doesnt really bother me lol. Could it be AVG's context menu?

All I know is that this is really getting annoying, but anyway, if you guys have any suggestions that would be great. Do I need to post any screenshots of anything??? I can post them if needed. BTW I'm running Vista x64 SP2 on a HP dv4 lappy, the only taskbar items running are AVG, my pointer, and sound...

Restoring XP Restore Point From ?

Jul 4, 2008

I hope this is the correct group. I've been running XP Pro for quie some time and recently installed Vista using Partition Magic and have also installed Vista BootPro. I planned a full migration of all of my data from XP today but cannot boot into XP for some reason. I was going to export or save vital data from XP, so this is quite a bummer. I cannot enter Safe Mode nor use Last Known Good Config options for XP. My box makes it up to the "Starting Windows" screen and hangs there. After exporting the data I require from XP and saving to disk I was going to manually install all of my progs into Vista (Quite a plan for the 4th, huh?)Is there a method to utilize an XP Restore Point from Vista to enable me to boot into XP?
