I have been using this set up for almost a year. Today Power Point 2003 started closeing constantly! It says check for updates I did that installed them and rebooted no change. Then I ran error checking with repair on the hard drive no change. Then I did a repair on Power Point thru the Control Panel, still no change.
View 5 RepliesGetting the time out error 0X81000101 when I try to set a restore point on Vista X64 Home Premium. This happened right after trying to install a Creative external 24bit Live sound blaster driver updates. I have read many threads and have done the following to no avail:
Turned off AVG free 8.5 Resident Shield. Ran disk clean up and rebooted. Turned off System Restore as Administrator, rebooted, turned on System Restore for C: drive only. Made sure that the Volume Shadow Copy Service is Running and set on Automatic and Started. I have read a few regedit posts but am reluctant to try that yet since I can't make a copy of my registry right now with the failed System Restore. When I do try to create a System Restore point, it hangs forever. Task manager says it is not responding.
Can I run Office 2003 on Vista Home Premium 64bit??
View 9 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, the laptop I just bought (Gateway FX P-7805u) will not remain shutdown if the Ethernet cable is still plugged in, and will turn itself back on. Sometimes it's immediately after shutdown, sometimes it's a few minutes later. I am actually pressing shutdown (not the "low power" option button, that looks very similar to the shutdown icon, located next to the Lock button in the Start Menu).

From what I understand it that Vista Home Premium comes with Windows Media Center and I do have Vista Premium but cannot locate Media Center anywhere on the system. Is there anything I can do to go about getting it since I do not have it and apperantly Vista Premium is supposed to have it already?

Vista 64 home premium is suddenly very slow, too slow to the point of programs not even launching. When trying to start in safe mode with networking, got a "repair" notice and then it tried to do a repair, saying that the volmgrx.sys was corrupt. However, the repair reported that it failed. I tried a system restore, and after seeing the "system restore is initializing" for over 12 minutes, I hit the power switch. It will start up in normal mode, but the disk activity light almost never goes out and is on almost solidly. I tried to copy the volmgrx.sys from a sister machine (two were ordered at the same time from HP), and then found that even in safe mode with command prompt, the file was protected. Is there a another way to copy over that file, or is that a "custom-made" file during the first turn-on of Vista?

Not sure if this is the correct place to post, but I can not get PP viewer to work. New computer running Vista, I downloaded the viewer and when I click on a link it comes up with the message to make sure it is linked to the correct program. I have gone into default assoc and PPS is connected to Power Point Viewer. It worked on XP Pro computer, what do I need to do? Have restarted after downloading thinking maybe that would work.

This program does work on his computer and he can view them now, however, when he clicks on a .pps file from windows mail it tells him he needs to associate the file. So, we did that thru the control panel and it says the Microsoft viewer is the default program. So what do we do now? How can we get it so that he just clicks on the .pps attachment from his windows mail and have it automatically run?

When I select it in File Association to open .pps files and then try to open a .pps file the association reverts back to the Microsoft Office Power Point Point selection. I have uninstalled the Microsoft Office Group to get away from the on screen nagging to purchase it so now I am unable to select any Power Point program that works. The system always reverts to an association that no longer exists.

i can not get programs to install when they have been downloaded on the Internet. They progress as far as the 'Windows Installer" and then it just sits there and stalls out. I am trying to download and install both Itunes and Acrobat 8.0 Professional. I have not been able to find any solutions on the Internet

(This was all from from a complete witch over from Windows XP to begin with as I bought a new computer system. Since the Power User isn't available in Vista Home I wold ike to make the main user a standard user. I have the admin account enabled, but I would like it to be visiblle on the login screen. The laptop is for a cousin going off to college. I will give him the admin password, but he'll be instructed to use the normal account except when he installs stuff. I want to set the machine up so he has the easy login screen with Administrator and his name as the two choices. How can I get the admin account to show up there?

I've had my HP laptop for almost about a year, and two days ago I started it up and logged in. Once logged in the screen went completely black except for the cursor. No message, no text, just black with a cursor. At first I thought it was a crash, but after several reboots still nothing. Eventually I tried Ctrl-Alt-Delete and got task manager, and then managed to get some apps up including a web browser. This doesn't sound like the descriptions of reduced functionalty mode I've read here and elsewhere. Is it? I tried going back to the oldest restore point, 2 weeks ago (I've had two auto-updates since then) but no change. Also tried running slui.exe as was suggested in anothe post here and all it says is "Activation Successful".What's going on and how can I get my system back?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have genuine windows vista home premium in my Laptop.However it takes nearly five minutes to come up to full performance after i logged(Stucks for 3 minuts after loading the Desktop and takes another 2 minutes to come to full performance). It takes so many time to load the Windows Side bar so i removed it from the start up. But for my wonder now it starts to load even slower.This problem never occured as soon as i created a new user account and logged from that.However after some days it becomes slow again.
