I've just orderdered a series of compatible hardware to assemble a new computer Now that I've installed windows vista 64 x home premium i've experienced random freezes, BSOD, and i can't play crysis either!
View 5 RepliesAfter a fresh installation of Vista Home Premium, my pc freezes randomly. If i decide to wait it out it magically unfreezes but this is a constant habit. It leaves the pc clock frozen at the time of the freeze. Suprisingly it lets me play full screen games but nothing else. Reinstalled multiple times, downloaded all updates with no change. Perhaps my motherboard isnt compatible? or my graphics card is just dumb?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have the problem with the system fully updated, and after a base install with no updates. The problem started 3 days ago and have had the PC for 2 years without this problem. I have not added anything to the install recently that would cause this problem. I have done automatic updates from Microsoft, but as stated above, problem persists from base install to fully updated. Problem persists in safe mode.
I have edited the registry "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Services i8042prt Enum" and set the value of INITSTARTFAIED from 1 (enabled) to 4 (restricted). Sadly this did not fix the problem. I tried this in response to Event ID 7026..........
Well ive got the 64bit version of Vista Premium and randomly it just freezes the screen and i have to hard reset to get back into it. Error reporting shows something different everytime at the point of error and there just doesn't seem to be any pattern to the freezes, sometimes its minutes, sometimes its hours.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am currently running Vista Home Premium x64 on a 4GB 2.2GHz Intel Core2 Duo Dell XPS m1530 laptop. I turned on my computer this morning and found that after starting up, everything looks fine until I try to do anything like open My Computer or Mozilla. At this point, if I do anything, the entire computer freezes and Ctrl-Alt-Del won't even work. When I boot the computer up in Safe Mode with Networking, the computer doesn't freeze and it is from here that I am typing my plea for help.
I have already scanned for malware and viruses have found none. I have not installed any new programs recently and I have already tried a system restore to a time when this problem was nonexistent. I have also disabled my usual startup programs to no avail. I am hoping for a solution which won't call for reinstalling of the OS because I am on vacation and won't be able to get access to my Vista Installation DVD until the end of August.
I just built a new system, its a 2.6 quad core with 4 gigs of ram and 2 diamond raidon hd 4850's running crossfire. Its still a relativly clean install and when I play videos or play my video games the screen stops, the sound keeps stuttering, and I lose control of my mouse and keyboard. I then have to hard reboot my sytem to bring it back up. I am at a loss, I cant seem to track down the cause.

BAM! The system says there is no hard drive and no booteable devices. I unplug everything. power off the system and then on again and then vista loads normally WTH!?
Do I need an upgrade version of Win-7? if so, which? Or do I simply wipe off WinXP and install a Win7 Home Premium full fresh install?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an issue wherein Vista (Ultimate 64-bit) Will freeze up completely forcing me to reset / reboot. This has occurred a few days after I put the computer together and installed all the software. It does not happen reliably. The first two times it happened, I was using Firefox in a window, in front of a video game (in windowed mode). This does not happen every time I do that, and has not happened from doing that in about a week.
The problem recently resurfaced in a more reliable fashion while using the Play-On media server software to stream Hulu to my Xbox. The computer froze after about 5 minutes of doing this, and then after about 8 minutes of doing this. I re-installed the most recent network driver, and tried switching ethernet ports. Next time it happened after about 10 minutes, twice in a row. So this is a very reliable circumstance to cause the freeze..........
I'm having a problem with my system. It randomly freezes, I have no idea why and most times its when I'm doing something differently. Its freezed during 2 different games, during a burning of a cd, and even while trying to get into the favorites menu on internet exlorer.. I tried looking in the event viewer for the system but not sure what I need to look for. I have no viruses according to Nod32. View 6 Replies View RelatedIt's weird, my mouse randomly freezes for about half a second to about 5 seconds from time to time. Sometimes it get stuck permanently, but will work if I unplug it from the USB port and plug it back in. Everything continues to function normally, so it doesn't appear as if other things are freezing up in any way. I have unplugged most of my peripherals in hopes of finding a cure, but it hasn't happened yet. I've tried a different mouse (both optical.) I've tried different USB ports. The problem only started a couple of months ago...I don't know if it started after an update or something.

It also freezes during the Antivirus scanning (avast), windows defender scanning and windows update. I cannot do anything except turn it of manually (ON/OFF). It also freezes when I insert a usb drive, and recently is making strange sounds (beebs,toot) as some creatures are living inside it. (It also freezes in safe mood). View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a brand new PC, with quad core Intel 3.2Ghz chip, 4 GB nVidia DDR3 Ram, twin Raid 300GB HD and a 500Gb HD. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium 64 Bit. I have a linksys n-Wireless PCI card, and a 1 Gb nVidia GeForce 9800 Ultra.
The problem is that for no reason my computer has started freezing. Once during boot up. Several times whilst in Windows (with no programs running). Other times when running programs. The Freeze requires a reboot. All the device drivers are up to date and I have Vista SP1. I have also checked that all cards are correctly seated, and all cables properly pushed home.
I am currently using my Dell Inspiron in safe mode as I cannot use it in normal mode without freezing soon after loading. For some reason, the Ms Help page says there is a prob with my Product ID so I can't get help there unless I pay for it. I have just had Service Pack 2 installed but the problem started before that upgrade. Also, in device manager, under Network Adaptors, I have 6TO4 adapters 'unable to start' and also ISATAP adapters similarly unable to start. Would these events be the cause of the freezing? I don't have more than 1 anti-virus running.

But, if i run music through winamp, or sometimes firefox will stop it, or in the newest case, turning on Aero, it stops. I have run check disc, defragged every day(especially after moving files), searched all over google, updated all drivers, updated vista, bought a new power supply, am going to add another gig of ram(have 2), run memtest86, regularly use the following: (Ccleaner, spybot search and destroy, ad-aware free, a-squared free, AVG free, windows defender, regsupreme pro, registryboost 2), i have eliminated every service and startup program in
nearly every fashion possible, and can verify every single bit of hardware is running perfectly, leading me to believe it is rooted in software, likely a microsoft error.
I've a weird problem with my IE8. Any page I browse to shows a 'Done, with errors on Page' at the status bar and most other sites such as hotmail turn up blank, with the 'Done' at the status bar and a warning sign next to it.
Its driving me crazy, and I cannot spot anything in Event Viewer System/Application logs that corresponds to this occurrence. Is this a virus that has taken over ...? Should I try restoring the system to any restore point?
My son is running Vista Home Premium onto his machine and just downloaded Windows 7/RTM and he wants to install it desperately. I'm hesitant to do so: it's easy to "uninstall" Windows 7 and revert back to Home Premium if he thinks that he made a mistake?

i can not get programs to install when they have been downloaded on the Internet. They progress as far as the 'Windows Installer" and then it just sits there and stalls out. I am trying to download and install both Itunes and Acrobat 8.0 Professional. I have not been able to find any solutions on the Internet

(This was all from from a complete witch over from Windows XP to begin with as I bought a new computer system. Since the Power User isn't available in Vista Home I wold ike to make the main user a standard user. I have the admin account enabled, but I would like it to be visiblle on the login screen. The laptop is for a cousin going off to college. I will give him the admin password, but he'll be instructed to use the normal account except when he installs stuff. I want to set the machine up so he has the easy login screen with Administrator and his name as the two choices. How can I get the admin account to show up there?

I've had my HP laptop for almost about a year, and two days ago I started it up and logged in. Once logged in the screen went completely black except for the cursor. No message, no text, just black with a cursor. At first I thought it was a crash, but after several reboots still nothing. Eventually I tried Ctrl-Alt-Delete and got task manager, and then managed to get some apps up including a web browser. This doesn't sound like the descriptions of reduced functionalty mode I've read here and elsewhere. Is it? I tried going back to the oldest restore point, 2 weeks ago (I've had two auto-updates since then) but no change. Also tried running slui.exe as was suggested in anothe post here and all it says is "Activation Successful".What's going on and how can I get my system back?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have genuine windows vista home premium in my Laptop.However it takes nearly five minutes to come up to full performance after i logged(Stucks for 3 minuts after loading the Desktop and takes another 2 minutes to come to full performance). It takes so many time to load the Windows Side bar so i removed it from the start up. But for my wonder now it starts to load even slower.This problem never occured as soon as i created a new user account and logged from that.However after some days it becomes slow again.

I check yahoo for my home page and my search engine, check "don't ask me again" and save. However when I start firefox again, it goes to the firefox welcome page and the same box pops up again.
