I know this is not new but after some time using vista the system just freezes, no sound, no UI, then all of a sudden it tries to generate a report with the blue screen of death... fails and then restarts. At the moment the machine restarts.
BAM! The system says there is no hard drive and no booteable devices. I unplug everything. power off the system and then on again and then vista loads normally WTH!?
I've just orderdered a series of compatible hardware to assemble a new computer Now that I've installed windows vista 64 x home premium i've experienced random freezes, BSOD, and i can't play crysis either!
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an issue wherein Vista (Ultimate 64-bit) Will freeze up completely forcing me to reset / reboot. This has occurred a few days after I put the computer together and installed all the software. It does not happen reliably. The first two times it happened, I was using Firefox in a window, in front of a video game (in windowed mode). This does not happen every time I do that, and has not happened from doing that in about a week.
The problem recently resurfaced in a more reliable fashion while using the Play-On media server software to stream Hulu to my Xbox. The computer froze after about 5 minutes of doing this, and then after about 8 minutes of doing this. I re-installed the most recent network driver, and tried switching ethernet ports. Next time it happened after about 10 minutes, twice in a row. So this is a very reliable circumstance to cause the freeze..........
I'm having a problem with my system. It randomly freezes, I have no idea why and most times its when I'm doing something differently. Its freezed during 2 different games, during a burning of a cd, and even while trying to get into the favorites menu on internet exlorer.. I tried looking in the event viewer for the system but not sure what I need to look for. I have no viruses according to Nod32. View 6 Replies View RelatedIt's weird, my mouse randomly freezes for about half a second to about 5 seconds from time to time. Sometimes it get stuck permanently, but will work if I unplug it from the USB port and plug it back in. Everything continues to function normally, so it doesn't appear as if other things are freezing up in any way. I have unplugged most of my peripherals in hopes of finding a cure, but it hasn't happened yet. I've tried a different mouse (both optical.) I've tried different USB ports. The problem only started a couple of months ago...I don't know if it started after an update or something.

It also freezes during the Antivirus scanning (avast), windows defender scanning and windows update. I cannot do anything except turn it of manually (ON/OFF). It also freezes when I insert a usb drive, and recently is making strange sounds (beebs,toot) as some creatures are living inside it. (It also freezes in safe mood). Moreover, a blue screen appeared morethan once and I don't know if the problem is due to a virus or an error in the system.

Now the laptop wont start at all it has a 1 in 3 chance of starting, if it does. It freezes at the Toshiba logo, and makes a static, popping noise from the speakers. Anything I can do? View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a brand new PC, with quad core Intel 3.2Ghz chip, 4 GB nVidia DDR3 Ram, twin Raid 300GB HD and a 500Gb HD. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium 64 Bit. I have a linksys n-Wireless PCI card, and a 1 Gb nVidia GeForce 9800 Ultra.
The problem is that for no reason my computer has started freezing. Once during boot up. Several times whilst in Windows (with no programs running). Other times when running programs. The Freeze requires a reboot. All the device drivers are up to date and I have Vista SP1. I have also checked that all cards are correctly seated, and all cables properly pushed home.
Whenever i am not running a program that takes up face time on my dell inspiron 531, my desktop has a sort of laggy/chunkyness to it, but not so extreme that it makes using the desktop impossible. But, if i run music through winamp, or sometimes firefox will stop it, or in the newest case, turning on Aero, it stops. I have had this problems for as long as i can remember, possibly appeared around december or november. Got my comp in
august, i think.
I have run check disc, defragged every day(especially after moving files), searched all over google, updated all drivers, updated vista, bought a new power supply, am going to add another gig of ram(have 2), run memtest86, regularly use the following: (Ccleaner, spybot search and destroy, ad-aware free, a-squared free, AVG free, windows defender, regsupreme pro, registryboost 2), i have eliminated every service and startup program in
nearly every fashion possible, and can verify every single bit of hardware is running perfectly, leading me to believe it is rooted in software, likely a microsoft error.
After a fresh installation of Vista Home Premium, my pc freezes randomly. If i decide to wait it out it magically unfreezes but this is a constant habit. It leaves the pc clock frozen at the time of the freeze. Suprisingly it lets me play full screen games but nothing else. Reinstalled multiple times, downloaded all updates with no change. Perhaps my motherboard isnt compatible? or my graphics card is just dumb?
View 7 Replies View RelatedSo I was trying to watch "Heartbreak Ridge" in avi format and it will run fine for a bit but then all of a sudden vista locks up so tight that I can't even do a ctrl + alt + Del. I have to manually reboot the pc for it to work, and then when I try to play a movie again it will just freeze. I have noticed it is not limited to movies as I have seen it happen when it goes to screensaver, you will see half of the image being drawn and then it freezes. My System Temp atm is 42C, I will list my spec below so you can see what i'm working with.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am using an Asus G1S with Vista Home Premium 32 installed. I've had my computer since June of last Year. It's been working perfectly fine up until about a week ago. Windows Explorer started crashing multiple times and randomly. There has been no reason for it and I can't duplicate it. Sometimes it's after I finish watching a video file in Media Player Classic, sometimes when coming back from sleep mode. I've tried reading for solutions and can't find anything similar to my problem. I've reported and searched for fixes every time but to no avail.

I just bought my dad a brand-new laptop computer with Vista 64-bit Home Premium pre-installed. Almost immediately, we started noticing a rather strange problem with this computer. Seemingly at random, the operating system decides that it doesn't want us to select a file in a file dialog window (if I select Open... within an application and then browse to select a document to open, for example), and so it closes the browse dialog a few seconds after it opens, whether or not a file has been selected, and when it does this, the entire application closes as well. For some reason, this dialog seems to make its application crash. I've never seen anything quite like it before.
Sometimes this browse dialog works without any problem. But once it starts happening during a given login session, it will happen every time that dialog appears. Does anyone out there have any clue why this might be happening? The computer is brand-new and has very little software of any kind installed on it other than the crap that comes pre-installed.
I've an Asus f5sl laptop with Vista Home Premium (32bit) but it's been freezing on me lately. When I boot up, it gets to the black screen with the green bar but after a few seconds, the green bar freezes and I can't log in. Occasionally it boots up after around half an hour but then Vista periodically freezes for a few seconds before resuming (which is annoying when trying to write out something etc)
I don't see any problems in Safe Mode so is possibly a driver? I've updated all my drivers, completely updated using WIndows Update, ran antispyware, used System Restore etc. Only problem is; I've moved to a new country, and like a fool, I left my Vista start up disk back home. Which I would otherwise have tried.
After I log on my account on windows xp, the computer starts to load and then it freezes....the recent changes I made to the computer was two things; first I installed the computer game crysis and 2nd I installed a new nvidia driver for my geforce card, anyways the computer freezes totally so I can't uninstall or change anything and then I restart using the restart button and it all happens again.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium 32-Bit with NO SERVICE PACKS installed.
The only reason is because I can't get Windows Update to install the updates before I can fully install Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (then later 2)..
The problem is, If I run Windows Update, I get a blank screen and then if I wait about a minute or so I'll get something that says
I have a large amount of Updates to install, I think total the update's total to be 200 mb.
I had Windows Vista before and then now re-installed Vista, So I'm positive I don't have any trojans messing with Windows Update.
Also, My Computer also freezes of I hit the the button that says shut off the pc and install updates.
I really need some help with this, I have read many posts in here and none had solved my problem.
I have a Toshiba Satellite A305-S6843 and since last thursday my computer freezes when it enters the desktop.
Anything I don wont work, the mouse moves, but I cant do anything, and the HD appears to be working nonstop. The cursor only shows the blue circle indicating activity.
In safe mode (with or without networking), it works fine, I have ran many antiviruses in safe mode, but when I restart the computer it freezes again.
It never happened before, and I never updated for SP1, it came that way when I bought it. It has never presented this issue before, and I dont recall installing anything software or hardware. It just suddenly happened.
Vista Home Premium installed. I've had it for about a month now, and everything was going fine until this past Wednesday, 4/15/09, when Windows Update installed a few things. They were basically security fixes for Windows and Office, and I installed an optional update for my HD audio. After restarting, my computer began freezing, seemingly at random. At first, it would freeze in any program I was in, and everything would become totally unresponsive, except for the mouse cursor. Task Manager would not come up, it wouldn't log off or go to sleep, and there would be no option left except to hard reset. I did a system restore to before the update, but no help.
I did one to four days before, still no help. I've run all the usual checks and scans, including virus and malware, to no improvement. I disabled all options for start up, but no help there either. It runs fine in safe mode, both with and without networking, and if I disable all services except those and restart, it'll run fine I started enabling services, a few at a time, to test which one was causing all the trouble, but then the freezing pattern changed. Now, it generally will not freeze programs I'm working in, but as soon as I need Windows Explorer for anything, it freezes up dead. The last time, even the mouse was stuck.
My Nephew's vista on a Dell inspiron freeze 5 minutes after he start it. It just hangs after 5 mins. I've tried restarting the machine and the same thing happens. I want to try and uninstall Macafe Antivirus software as there is another Anti virus also in the system and somebody mentioned that this could be the reason. But five mins run out very soon.
View 4 Replies View RelatedCan anyone explain why Windows periodically freezes when the screen saver is running? At first I thought it was due to the Windows Live Photo Gallery. After running for several hours (overnight, for e.g.), it would freeze on one picture. Usually moving the mouse would eventually close the screen saver and I'd return to the desktop.
I then changed to a regular screen saver, Mystify. Usually this isn't a problem, but today when I moved the mouse, the screen saver froze. I couldn't soft boot, actually had to shut down manually. This is the second time this has happened.
I've checked whether I'm using the latest video driver using device manager, and it says everything is up to date. I'm using NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430, driver version 7.15.11.7530. Could there be a device conflict? How would I be able to tell?
I tried and tried to publish my holiday movie to DVD. It never reaches the finish on publishing and freezes around half way. I transferred it from a SD card and the file is VMP. I'm sure WMM is working ok as I have been successful at publishing a sample video that came with the PC. Really would appreciate some help as I'm getting very frustrated.

I have a serious problem - I have a certain software product (let's call it X) which works fine on all 32bit versions, but freezes up Multi-core 8 GB Vista Ultimate machine, when performing a certain actions (let's say, filling the spread sheet with data). After this program is done, Vista unfreezes and everything back to normal, but during the run, I cannot bring up any other window - not even a Task Manager (I can move the mouse, though) - clicking on the windows tabs does not do anything. I have 2 monitors and I can see Task Manager on a second one, if I bring it up before X starts to work and I see that CPU load never reaches 100%. But I cannot do anything with the PC until X is done working.

For some reason, the Ms Help page says there is a prob with my Product ID so I can't get help there unless I pay for it. I have just had Service Pack 2 installed but the problem started before that upgrade. Also, in device manager, under Network Adaptors, I have 6TO4 adapters 'unable to start' and also ISATAP adapters similarly unable to start. Would these events be the cause of the freezing? I don't have more than 1 anti-virus running.

I ran my ESET virus scan and it found 1 problem but that did not seem to help me out. Anyone had any similar issues with this? When i tried that, I couldn't enable, it showed ''The Security center service can't be started'' and froze my Windows (I couldn't click anything, my keyboard was freezed and seems that it loads something all the time and never stops). So I restarted my PC and logged in same profile and it freezes again.Now I can only use PC in safe modes and my other Windows User profile.

If I just do other stuff for about 3-5 minutes the window will eventually open correctly, but this is obviously a problem.

While Windows Memory Diagnostics was testing it didn't report any errors and memtest64 also didn't report any errors.
