My Nephew's vista on a Dell inspiron freeze 5 minutes after he start it. It just hangs after 5 mins. I've tried restarting the machine and the same thing happens. I want to try and uninstall Macafe Antivirus software as there is another Anti virus also in the system and somebody mentioned that this could be the reason. But five mins run out very soon.

However, while i'm playing a online game for about every 10 minutes, it just closed by itself and didn't give me any warnings. It can stay w/ no problem on the game login page but just not in the game. I'm wondering is there problem with the graphic card? I had tried 2 different brand laptop with 64 bit 4G RAM, both have the same problem. But the game worked well with my old laptop with vista home premium 32 bit 3G RAM.

But yet im blank, and then a minute goes buy and then my computer shuts off. I've done a virus scan with NOD32 - came black clean And a scan with Ad-Aware - again clean. I've recently reinstalled all my Operating Systems (i multi-boot: XP, Vista and 7) for better file management.

I went to energy settings in control panel and put on "never" for turning off, and the cpu doesn't shut down, but the monitor goes off. I assume same thing with xp would work? I am recording streaming video onto dvd recorder and would like to do it without checking every 10 mins.

I've disabled nearly everything in startup in msconfig, did a restore to manufacture settings the day before to try and solve this, but it didn't help.

I am at my wits end, this all started 3 months ago, this machine was running like a champ for 6 months. I started crashing every 10 mins in Age of Conan, I also noticed that Crysis was crashing as well. The crash info from AOC seemed to point to a mem. issue so I replaced the 4 gigs memory with 8 gigs of kingston; no change still crashing; windows reinstall no change (tried latest and greatest video drivers). I even noticed I can't play Call of duty 2, crashed in 5 mins.
Thinking maybe it's the video card so I ran the furmark test and it ran fine for 10 mins or so, started to get close to 110 so I stop the test. I also ran the Atitool and it ran fine for some time as well, Ran another video test and it ran to the end. Now I ran the Intelburn test and it never got to 1 pass, it blue screen on me, what is that all about. So I am thinking maybe the CPU or motherboard, but how do I determine? I will try and find the window dumps files and post them when i get home. I tried running the memtest but it doesn't seem to like the 8gig thing will only do 2047 at a time.
I have a brand new dell xps m1330 4gb RAM, Intel Core duo processor 2.5GHZ, 500 gb 5400 rpm HDD, NVIDIA and standard display. I have windows vista ultimate 64bit installed :zip: The cpu usage always shoots upto 100% just after 5 -10 mins of operating the system and makes the system performance patchy(like playing music, opening even a word document).. I tried to remove all the unnecessary start up programs from msconfig, I disabled windows aero theme and made it classic. The system starts up well sometimes taking only 90 secs to boot up(I used the reboot.vbs to calculate this) I diagnosed the hard disk, did a chkdsk and it showed the disk was alright.
View 9 Replies View RelatedLast night my pc was running fine and just before I went for some shut eye put my pc into sleep mode today I woke my pc only for it not to allow me to log on, mouse movement only nothing was clickable so after a short while I decided to reset upon boot I got the green loading bar but then a black screen after about 20 mins I gave up and tried a restore last good config.... Yeah nice one it bsod on me At 55% chkdsk and now I get a windows boot manager error file: ootcd
I tried Bootrec /RebuildBcd but it brings back an error that it can not create the new file as the file already exists. I'm not having much luck with the recovery disk for repair options as it can't seem to find the OS and brings back errors of can not recover everything seems on a go slow and ubuntu can't find my c drive even tried spin right and that can't recover a bad sector I'm at a loss as to what to do befor the fresh install option I'm on my last option to try use a back up store disk
I've an Asus f5sl laptop with Vista Home Premium (32bit) but it's been freezing on me lately. When I boot up, it gets to the black screen with the green bar but after a few seconds, the green bar freezes and I can't log in. Occasionally it boots up after around half an hour but then Vista periodically freezes for a few seconds before resuming (which is annoying when trying to write out something etc)
I don't see any problems in Safe Mode so is possibly a driver? I've updated all my drivers, completely updated using WIndows Update, ran antispyware, used System Restore etc. Only problem is; I've moved to a new country, and like a fool, I left my Vista start up disk back home. Which I would otherwise have tried.
After I log on my account on windows xp, the computer starts to load and then it freezes....the recent changes I made to the computer was two things; first I installed the computer game crysis and 2nd I installed a new nvidia driver for my geforce card, anyways the computer freezes totally so I can't uninstall or change anything and then I restart using the restart button and it all happens again.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium 32-Bit with NO SERVICE PACKS installed.
The only reason is because I can't get Windows Update to install the updates before I can fully install Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (then later 2)..
The problem is, If I run Windows Update, I get a blank screen and then if I wait about a minute or so I'll get something that says
I have a large amount of Updates to install, I think total the update's total to be 200 mb.
I had Windows Vista before and then now re-installed Vista, So I'm positive I don't have any trojans messing with Windows Update.
Also, My Computer also freezes of I hit the the button that says shut off the pc and install updates.
I really need some help with this, I have read many posts in here and none had solved my problem.
I have a Toshiba Satellite A305-S6843 and since last thursday my computer freezes when it enters the desktop.
Anything I don wont work, the mouse moves, but I cant do anything, and the HD appears to be working nonstop. The cursor only shows the blue circle indicating activity.
In safe mode (with or without networking), it works fine, I have ran many antiviruses in safe mode, but when I restart the computer it freezes again.
It never happened before, and I never updated for SP1, it came that way when I bought it. It has never presented this issue before, and I dont recall installing anything software or hardware. It just suddenly happened.
I know this is not new but after some time using vista the system just freezes, no sound, no UI, then all of a sudden it tries to generate a report with the blue screen of death... fails and then restarts. At the moment the machine restarts.
BAM! The system says there is no hard drive and no booteable devices. I unplug everything. power off the system and then on again and then vista loads normally WTH!?
Vista Home Premium installed. I've had it for about a month now, and everything was going fine until this past Wednesday, 4/15/09, when Windows Update installed a few things. They were basically security fixes for Windows and Office, and I installed an optional update for my HD audio. After restarting, my computer began freezing, seemingly at random. At first, it would freeze in any program I was in, and everything would become totally unresponsive, except for the mouse cursor. Task Manager would not come up, it wouldn't log off or go to sleep, and there would be no option left except to hard reset. I did a system restore to before the update, but no help.
I did one to four days before, still no help. I've run all the usual checks and scans, including virus and malware, to no improvement. I disabled all options for start up, but no help there either. It runs fine in safe mode, both with and without networking, and if I disable all services except those and restart, it'll run fine I started enabling services, a few at a time, to test which one was causing all the trouble, but then the freezing pattern changed. Now, it generally will not freeze programs I'm working in, but as soon as I need Windows Explorer for anything, it freezes up dead. The last time, even the mouse was stuck.
Can anyone explain why Windows periodically freezes when the screen saver is running? At first I thought it was due to the Windows Live Photo Gallery. After running for several hours (overnight, for e.g.), it would freeze on one picture. Usually moving the mouse would eventually close the screen saver and I'd return to the desktop.
I then changed to a regular screen saver, Mystify. Usually this isn't a problem, but today when I moved the mouse, the screen saver froze. I couldn't soft boot, actually had to shut down manually. This is the second time this has happened.
I've checked whether I'm using the latest video driver using device manager, and it says everything is up to date. I'm using NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430, driver version 7.15.11.7530. Could there be a device conflict? How would I be able to tell?
I tried and tried to publish my holiday movie to DVD. It never reaches the finish on publishing and freezes around half way. I transferred it from a SD card and the file is VMP. I'm sure WMM is working ok as I have been successful at publishing a sample video that came with the PC. Really would appreciate some help as I'm getting very frustrated.

I have a serious problem - I have a certain software product (let's call it X) which works fine on all 32bit versions, but freezes up Multi-core 8 GB Vista Ultimate machine, when performing a certain actions (let's say, filling the spread sheet with data). After this program is done, Vista unfreezes and everything back to normal, but during the run, I cannot bring up any other window - not even a Task Manager (I can move the mouse, though) - clicking on the windows tabs does not do anything. I have 2 monitors and I can see Task Manager on a second one, if I bring it up before X starts to work and I see that CPU load never reaches 100%. But I cannot do anything with the PC until X is done working.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am currently using my Dell Inspiron in safe mode as I cannot use it in normal mode without freezing soon after loading. For some reason, the Ms Help page says there is a prob with my Product ID so I can't get help there unless I pay for it. I have just had Service Pack 2 installed but the problem started before that upgrade. Also, in device manager, under Network Adaptors, I have 6TO4 adapters 'unable to start' and also ISATAP adapters similarly unable to start. Would these events be the cause of the freezing? I don't have more than 1 anti-virus running.

I ran my ESET virus scan and it found 1 problem but that did not seem to help me out. Anyone had any similar issues with this? When i tried that, I couldn't enable, it showed ''The Security center service can't be started'' and froze my Windows (I couldn't click anything, my keyboard was freezed and seems that it loads something all the time and never stops). So I restarted my PC and logged in same profile and it freezes again.Now I can only use PC in safe modes and my other Windows User profile.

If I just do other stuff for about 3-5 minutes the window will eventually open correctly, but this is obviously a problem.

I somehow manged to fix the problem and had completely forgotten about it until the other day.

It sort of fixed my hibernation, now the Start Menu power button would hibernate, but more importantly the 9 second freezes started up again. I quickly ran the Hibernation File Cleaner in Disk Cleanup which is apparently what removed the hibernation option in the first place, but no luck, hibernation was now gone and the freezes still continued....................
This friend of mine has real problem with her laptop (Vista sp1)it was first noticed when her anti-virus did a scheduled scan. The anti-virus program hung whilst scanning the System32 folder.I tried with Windows Defender. Same thing, it hangs after a while.
I de-activated her anti-virus program (forgot the name. Not a well known brand) and downloaded/installed Avast, to no avail it also hangs whilst scanning the System32 folder.I also tried to scan using SFC/scannow. The PC freezes at 68 % of the scan.I tried these different manipulation in safe mode.Same results and everytime, the PC Freezes and I am obliged to do a hard stop/restart.
have been experiencing frequent crashes, freezes, and BSOD lately and after some research decided the video card/driver might be a likely culprit. ran memtest just prior to see if RAM might be the issue; no errors. uninstalled video driver; and was prompted to restart to finalize removal of old driver. however, the system now freezes on startup at the welcome screen when starting normally or in safe mode.
View 8 Replies View RelatedAfter booting up the computer the desktop freezes immediately. If it doesn't freeze up immediately I'll have some functionality, but minimal. I'll no longer have access to the internet (no network adapter present), can't run programs (they fail to open) or can't install programs/updates. I have even gotten a couple of Blue screen error messages such as: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.
In safe mode with networking I do have access to the internet. When I try to download updates in safe mode I can't because Install shield will not work, or some other excuse. There are no restore points to restore to. There was a Windows Framework update on August 7th. I tried to uninstall it, but apparently it was never installed properly. No blue screens while in Safe Mode. I've been trying to problem solve this on my own, but with my limited computer repair skills I'm scared to try things.
online backup installed an update on my extremely stable Vista Home Premium. It asked me to reboot and when I clicked reboot, the system froze up. Every time I boot, it will freeze within seconds of loading the desktop.
I would seriously love to get this fixed as I have reinstalled Vista 4x, the last being 18-months ago
