Ultimate 64bit: The Cpu Usage Always Shoots Upto 100% Just After 5 -10 Mins Of
Feb 24, 2009
I have a brand new dell xps m1330 4gb RAM, Intel Core duo processor 2.5GHZ, 500 gb 5400 rpm HDD, NVIDIA and standard display. I have windows vista ultimate 64bit installed :zip: The cpu usage always shoots upto 100% just after 5 -10 mins of operating the system and makes the system performance patchy(like playing music, opening even a word document).. I tried to remove all the unnecessary start up programs from msconfig, I disabled windows aero theme and made it classic. The system starts up well sometimes taking only 90 secs to boot up(I used the reboot.vbs to calculate this) I diagnosed the hard disk, did a chkdsk and it showed the disk was alright.

I want to reformat my computer and install Vista Ultimate 64-bit as my operating system. I'd rather not spend a couple hundred dollars to do this when I already own Vista Ultimate 32-bit. My computer came with Home Premium and I purchased a Vista Ultimate Upgrade CD (32 bit). Now what I want to know is if I buy the $30 non liscensed Vista Ultimate (64 bit) CD, can I use my Ultimate (32 bit) Activation key to activate it? This would save me around $150. I talked to the Microsoft guys via chat but we just kept going around and around and they never really answered whether or not the Ultimate 64 bit would accept my Ultimate 32 bit upgrade key.

i have been running xp pro and decided to try vista ultimate 64bit. the installation went very smoothly. i immediately loaded super pi and 3dmark06 to compare benchmark scores with xp pro. i was surprised to see that the vista scores were 10 to 15% slower. i loaded the latest gpu drivers and loaded the motherboard drivers from the installation disk.
should vista score less than xp pro or is there something i can do to correct this.

After years of using Nvidia cards because ATI based cards were crap; when my nvidia 8800 gtx 768mb card died on me after quite a few years of use, i opted for an ati sapphire radeon hd 5770. problem is that although I have removed every trace of the nvidia drivers, even trawling through the registry manually to remove them and cleaning the system up totally there are certain games that will not play at all.
Far Cry 2 will not play, neither will fallout 3, nor UT3, NFS undercover, nor Bejewled 2. question is, is it the card not being compatible with the games; or is the card faulty or do I really need to reformat the master drive and start again?

I recently built a new computer. I put vista ultimate 64bit on it for the os. Everything seems to be ok so far except for the memory issue. I installed 12 gigs of ram on the mother board and vista only show if have this.
Installed Physical memory 12.0 gb
Total Physical memory 3.99 gb
Available Physical memory 10.3 b
Total Virtual memory 23.9gb
Available virtual memory 22.3gb
Page file space 12.3 gb
This seems to me that all the memory is not seen. The motherboard shows all 12 gb in bios. What can I do to get vista to see and use all the ram, I do video editing I thought I doing a good thing with more ram and vista 64bit.

He's only got Vista Ultimate 32bit retail while i have a Vista Ultimate 64bit OEM disk. So is it possible to send him my 64 bit disk and for him to install the 64bit version with his code so he can access all the ram hes going to have.

I've created RAID-0 volume containing 2x150Gb WD VelociRaptor HDDs. Before copying files windows sees it as one volume (279Gb). I partitioned it as single volume and formatted it. But when i proceed further to copying files stage it displays the error "Windows could not determine if this computer contains a valid system volume" I have tried uploading RAID drivers. Didn't work. Same error.

I am looking at "building" a new system, using a GA-MA78GM-S2H Gigabyte m/board, Phenom 9550 processor and 2GB or 4GB ram and running Vista Ultimate on it. This is partly a cost issue. Firstly, is this system suitable for Vista Ultimate and secondly, what issues are there with 64bit? I am happy to run 32bit if necessary. I am not a gamer thus don't need the latest and greatest graphics but am prepared to fit a PCI E graphics card if necessary. Which one, to suit my circumstances?

Vista 64bit dumping their monitor's profile on bootup (even though the profile will still be listed as the default profile in the Display Settings.
1. Click Start/System Configuration/Tools/Security Centre
2. Click Launch
3. Click on Firewall in the top left hand corner.
4. Turn off the Firewall and reboot.
The monitor profile should now load as normal. Very odd that this has only started happening with SP1.

i have several 32bit vista ultimates on other machines. the 64bit machine has Home Premium and i'd wanted to go ultimate on it as well. i saw "Anytime Upgrade" and using the name only postponed the upgrade till i had funds and time to do the upgrade. surprise 1, anytime refers to paying for the upgrade. i was sure to use the 64bit machine to order and postponed my expectations on using the ultimate features until the DVD arrived to me in alaska.
since the upgrade order process said it was scanning my machine i was sure i'd get the 64bit disk. surprise 2, disk was the 32bit DVD tho it was plus SP1 so i guess it did scan my machine in some fashion. in the package the instructions on ordering 64 bit media are given. use this web site and order. you'll have to pay even more and wait even longer but you'll get the ultimate upgrade ultimatly. surprise 3 the web site after putting in the product key from the ultimate upgrade dvd package gives the error "No Offer Found"

1. when I play games (quake4) and watch dvds, every now and again (more often with games, sometimes with dvds) the screen freezes and I have to reboot by reset button (nothing else work). As my PC is new, I don't know whether it's a hardware or software problem.
2. I have MS Office 2003 loaded, and again the Word would stop responding every so often and sometimes it restarts, sometimes it doesn't.
3. Finally, a few programs, especially catalyst, would stop working as soon as boot up is completed, but again, this happens only at times. To top it off, sometimes vista will reboot itself automatically, as if I pressed the reset button.
I've checked Bios updates from Asus, and while there are newer updates, they don't seem to be for the problems I'm having, and my realtek driver is the latest version (I've compared my version to what's on Asus' site)

Now i installed process explorer and i can see that 45% cpu usage (this is 90% of core 2) is for "System / hardware interrupts". Which interrupts are the problem, what can i do to fix this?

I just brought a new laptop with vista home premium 64 bit 4G RAM. However, while i'm playing a online game for about every 10 minutes, it just closed by itself and didn't give me any warnings. It can stay w/ no problem on the game login page but just not in the game. I'm wondering is there problem with the graphic card? I had tried 2 different brand laptop with 64 bit 4G RAM, both have the same problem. But the game worked well with my old laptop with vista home premium 32 bit 3G RAM.

How does one keep the monitor on a laptop (hp) from shutting down every 10 mins or so. I went to energy settings in control panel and put on "never" for turning off, and the cpu doesn't shut down, but the monitor goes off. I assume same thing with xp would work? I am recording streaming video onto dvd recorder and would like to do it without checking every 10 mins.

When I start my computer, it would load fine until the loading green bar. After that screen, my computer would have a black screen for 15 or so minutes until the screen for the password shows up.
I've disabled nearly everything in startup in msconfig, did a restore to manufacture settings the day before to try and solve this, but it didn't help.
I have:
Dell XPS420
3.00 GB RAM
32-bit operating system
Number of processor cores 2.

I am at my wits end, this all started 3 months ago, this machine was running like a champ for 6 months. I started crashing every 10 mins in Age of Conan, I also noticed that Crysis was crashing as well. The crash info from AOC seemed to point to a mem. issue so I replaced the 4 gigs memory with 8 gigs of kingston; no change still crashing; windows reinstall no change (tried latest and greatest video drivers). I even noticed I can't play Call of duty 2, crashed in 5 mins.
Thinking maybe it's the video card so I ran the furmark test and it ran fine for 10 mins or so, started to get close to 110 so I stop the test. I also ran the Atitool and it ran fine for some time as well, Ran another video test and it ran to the end. Now I ran the Intelburn test and it never got to 1 pass, it blue screen on me, what is that all about. So I am thinking maybe the CPU or motherboard, but how do I determine? I will try and find the window dumps files and post them when i get home. I tried running the memtest but it doesn't seem to like the 8gig thing will only do 2047 at a time.

I purchased a digital update of Windows Vista Premium upgrade and the download won't load. I am useing a trial version of Windows XP 64-bit. I first used the digital locker a few times and it would stop at 99 percent and give a validation error. I figured it the locker was having a problem so i manual downloaded the three files through my internet browser. They downloaded fine without problems, but when I tried to run the Vista setup I ran into another error: 0x8007000D Windows was unable to create a required installation folder.

At idle, I have 50% cpu usage at times. It seems to be msiexec.exe. I have absolutely no idea why. Is this a normal Vista behaviour? Second, at startup I have 67 processes running, then it jumps to 72, then back down to 67. I had this amount on my XP pro machine, but had probably over 60 different programs installed, as it was a shared machine with CAD programs, graphic design software, etc. Now I only have vista, adobe cs3, blackberry, and office... And for my final question, Why does eSata not able to "hot-swap"? Is this normal as well (sorry, I've always used firewire for my external drives, but now I'm trying to use eSata)

However when I run the task manager, and clicking on "Show processs from all users", I can't see which process is responsible since none is consuming more than a few percent of the CPU.My computer is obviously very slow and I haven't installed any program yet.
