Windows Mail Able To Read/view The Attachment And Powerpoint
May 22, 2009
in windows mail, vista 32 bit, when I go to open an attachment I keep getting a message that powerpoint can't read it. How can I change / what do I change
to be able to read/view the attachment?
My system restore fails every time I attempt it. This has happened the last 3 times I had a need to attempt restore. (Three attempts separated by months in time, about different issues.) This time, I am thinking something may be wrong with my system restore function.
In this case, it is simply a matter of trying to roll back a browser update.
I saw a whole list of available restore points, and I went to the second one back - from only a few days ago. The restore failed.
I am using Windows Vista Home Premium, OEM from Gateway Laptop about 1.5 yrs old. I allow most updates.
On Monday morning, as usual checking mail in office using windows mail, all attachment was able to open (through the paper clip icon or save into other location.
Then after lunch, all type of attachment (picture, excel, words, pdf.) can not be open through the paper clip icon. Then i try to save it and open again, these message pop up "there was an error saving one or more of the attachments. Please check your free disk space and try again", i can't safe the attachment.
If forwarded to other people, it's ok, open and view as normal.
Another thing I encounter, i can't open web based email attachment as well, since I'd forward (to try) the office attachment mail to my personal account.
I try to save it, the saving process as usual, but when saving is done, the file was not saved at all.
I'm using Vista Home basic, Version 6.0 (build 6002: SP2)
Window mail Version 6.0.6000.16386 (vista_rtm.061101-2205)
I have Win defender ON, and AVG free edition, Version 9.0.708
Some said it's IE 8 causing the problem, so i uninstall it, the same problem happened. now I'm using IE 7 (Version 7.0.6002.18005)
Incoming jpg photo attachments cannot be opened. When I click on an attached file, the message "Windows can't find jpg file" appears. Get the same error if I want to open an outgoing jpg file. Have not made any changes to the computer other than adding IE8, but this problem occured before installing that. Reboots don't help and haven't found anything in troubleshooting that addresses this issue.
Recently my Vista Home Premium's Windows Mail developed a(nother) new problem. When I click on an attachment, it does not open. My left click is ignored. I keep current with upgrades. This laptop has always had a screwy copy of windows. I'm looking forward to Windows 7. I hope it has drivers for my 2+ year old Acer Aspire 5610. But I'll lose about 20% of my apps, because I either don't have the CD's anymore, or I downloaded the app.
Whenever I click on an email attachment for instance when replying to a craigslist item, 2 windows pop up and say that my computer is low on memory or is unstable and the other window says that MSDOE could not be started or something like that because it is busy due to spyware scanning it or something. Any clue how to get it to work?
I have just bought a new computer. This is the first attachment I try to save. I get an error message: "There was a error saving one or more of the attachments. Please check your free disk space and try again." I tried saving it in another location and got the same message.
I cannot open or save any attachment using windows Mail running Vista. I get an error message that says 'There was an error opening one or more of the attachment. Please check your free disk space and try again.' I have plenty of disk space. I have tried installing Windoes Live Mail, but I get the same message. I am using Microsoft anti-virus software. I was using AVG. I have read all the other remarks about this problem and have followed some of the suggestions but nothing helps. I have checked and unchecked so many times, I don't even know what I have checked any more. One day it worked and the next day it didn't.
I have received a safe email from a know source. However I can't access the attachment due to the following message: Windows Mail removed access to this unsafe attachment..." How do I find this attachment, if it still exists in my computer. How do I tell WM to let certain senders send attachments?
I have the four usual Headers in Windows Mail (Vista). Folders - Unread - Total - Sync. Settings Currently the Unread Header shows: Unread 0, Total 161, Sync. Settings is checked. How can I get to the Total mail of 161 to re-read/review??
Vista, Home Premium, Windows Mail all of a sudden the button to Save Attachments under the Paperclip is greyed out for images such as .jpg I can see the image numbers/names listed but all in grey. I can still save them by rightclicking them in the preview pane but for a mail containing many pics that is rather cumbersome. For other attachment such as movies, powerpoints etc. the Save Button is NOT greyed out and works fine for quick saving...
Recently got the big update which successfully self-installed and I am running Vista Home Premium 32 bit and Windows Mail version 6.0. I went to my inbox, read my mail, and got out of Windows Mail. When I went to check mail again, I launched Windows Mail again and discovered that the program now deletes all opened mail. I cannot find a setting within the program that allows/denies this.
I run a business from home, and all the threads from my customer service efforts are gone. I am working blind. Every call now is a first time contact, and that makes me look very, very bad. how do I keep opened mail in my inbox (or elsewhere). Does anyone else have that problem and know a solution? Also, I deleted a large quantity of emails from other folders in case it was a memory problem; it all started concurrently with that update.
How do you mark folders read in Windows Mail? In Thunderbird, for instance, if you right click on a folder you get a drop down box with one of the options being to mark the folder read. How can that be done in WM without clicking on each message individually to mark it as read. Sometimes I keep a group of messages as not read. Then when I'm finished with them, I mark them as read.
A message has popped up the last few days asking me to compact my messages. I always reply Cancel bc I need all of my messages for the work that I do. I had my Windows Mail up and *POOF*, all my READ emails disappeared.
I have had Vista for about a week. Still learning Win. Mail vs the old Outlook Express in XP. I have set up mail & Newsgroup accts. That seems ok. My quest. is why in Newsgroups do I have to click *catch up* in order for the counter to clear? In OE they cleared when I went from newsgroup to newsgroup. Is this just the way WinMail works or did I miss a setting somewhere?
I trying to open or view some attachments within Windows Mail. Usually it is attachments with a pps suffix, but not always. For example if I have an attachment amed "CreativeShotsAZ.pps" and click on it Open Office will open and then I will get the error message "C:Sysyem32CreativeShotsAZ does not exist". If I try to copy the attachment to the desktop I get the message "Could not find this item. This is no longer located in CreativeShotsAZ,pps.Verify the item's location and try again. I thought maybe that the pps format could not be read by Open Office so I downloaded a pps reader from Microsoft but since the system cannot find the file I can't use the reader.
I have a blueyonder email address but prefer to read emails in windows mail but my emails are going to my virgin mailbox and and I would like to make windows mail my default mailbox,
using this Windows Mail program to read messages in the MS bases. Where in the world is the internet files/cache/cookies stored now anyway? I've used the same method in viewing them for quite some time now, but using the same method after getting this new laptop with vista installed isn't showing me the files. I suppose that the files could be being handled differently now, but I'm not sure. So are these files STILL stored/accessed the same way?
I have an HP laptop with office. When I type out a paper in the word processor and attach it to an e-mail it cannot be opened - even on the same laptop. Any ideas/solutions? The attachment is in application/octet-stream. The two most abundant things in the world are hydrogen and stupidity.
When I receive a .doc attachment, I can't open it from the email. I get the message "the file cannot be found." If I save the attachment to a folder then try to open it, I am able to. Why won't it open directly from the email?
I cannot open pps files that I get as an attachment in an e-mail. I get the message "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel."by editing the registry renaming Show to Open. I still get the same message when trying to open the attachment. If I save the attachment to the desktop or a folder, I am able to open it. I use PowerPoint Viewer 2003 and my OS is Vista Home Premium with SP1. Before I installed SP1, I had to re-image my hard drive. Previous to the re-image I was able to open a pps attachment from an e-mail because before the re-image I had edited the registry as indicated in the above link. My question is - why doesn't this fix work now?
When I try to open a .doc file sent as an e-mail attachment I get an error message that says "this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel." I've gone in and checked and all my associations are set correctly, but the only way I can open the file is if I save it to my hard drive and then open it from there.
I'm not sure if vista mail is the same as hotmail but I am in a major state of emergency finding these files. I worked on them at school, emailed them to myself and when I reopened them at home I finished the projects. They are a word and apowerpoint file. I saved repeatedly with cntrl S.... Shut the programs, and now I can't find them anywhere. Yes, i have tried everything. I have spent hours on the phone with people trying to help me. I have looked in the temporary internet files, I have searched for the file names, I have done EVERYTHING I know to do. Surely since I saved these files they are somewhere on my computer. A shortcut comes up in word to the word document but says the path is invalid, but it also says that the file is on F drive, which I didn't use. This is a final project for a college class.
I tried sending an email with a word document attachment about three days ago, but i cannot stop it being re-sent. The recipient has to date received 33 instances of this email
my vista mail takes a very long time when I have something attached to the outgoing mail. Even a very small attachment of 9 kbytes takes about 30 seconds. I have vista ultimative 64 bit danish version sp1. I have tried to disable antivirus/firewall but it is still the same. Prolonging the servers responstime in account options to 1 minut..doesn? A mail with no attachment sends right away.
I have a computer that was just upgraded to Vista and I can't find the outlook express I've tried to use the windows mail but it wont let me see my mail either. Is there any way that I can get my outlook express back up to check my mail from work! I've searched my computer and can't find anything...
