View 3 RepliesRecently got the big update which successfully self-installed and I am running Vista Home Premium 32 bit and Windows Mail version 6.0. I went to my inbox, read my mail, and got out of Windows Mail. When I went to check mail again, I launched Windows Mail again and discovered that the program now deletes all opened mail. I cannot find a setting within the program that allows/denies this.
I run a business from home, and all the threads from my customer service efforts are gone. I am working blind. Every call now is a first time contact, and that makes me look very, very bad. how do I keep opened mail in my inbox (or elsewhere). Does anyone else have that problem and know a solution? Also, I deleted a large quantity of emails from other folders in case it was a memory problem; it all started concurrently with that update.
Today I had a need to find some questions and responses that I'd sent to and received from, some of the MS newsgroups (including this one). It seems that Vista Mail has auto-magically deleted a large number of old newsgroup messages that I had previously downloaded to my machine, so I've lost that history. I've been through all the dialog boxes I could find and I cannot find any "delete downloaded news messages after ...." option. Odder still, if I use the Mail search tool to find messages, it finds some.
If I then go back to the message viewer, that gets refreshed and the search "hits" disappear from the found items dialog. Are old messages actually being deleted from the MS servers somewhere and my local cache is then being kept up to date by deleting the old messages? So the question is, "How do I prevent Vista Mail from deleting old newsgroup messages?".
I have the four usual Headers in Windows Mail (Vista). Folders - Unread - Total - Sync. Settings Currently the Unread Header shows: Unread 0, Total 161, Sync. Settings is checked. How can I get to the Total mail of 161 to re-read/review??

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have just bought a new computer and transferred all my email accounts (3 accounts in total) and all the e-mail messages in each 3 over to my new computer. I should mention that one of the accounts is an Imap account. What I am trying to do is delete all the e-mail messages in each account on my old computer so that it is completely clean so I can then give it to my daughter without any of my messages on there.
The first time I deleted all of the emails on my old computer, it also deleted all of them on my new computer as well. How can I keep all of my emails that were transferred to my new computer and delete all of them on my old one without affecting my new computer? Is it a question of deleting each actual account in my old one completely? Or by doing this, will I subsequently delete all of the accounts on the new one as well?
All of a sudden my emails are deleting automatically.Everything it thinks I have read gets deleted.

In Thunderbird, for instance, if you right click on a folder you get a drop down box with one of the options being to mark the folder read. How can that be done in WM without clicking on each message individually to mark it as read. Sometimes I keep a group of messages as not read. Then when I'm finished with them, I mark them as read.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have had Vista for about a week. Still learning Win. Mail vs the old Outlook Express in XP. I have set up mail & Newsgroup accts. That seems ok. My quest. is why in Newsgroups
do I have to click *catch up* in order for the counter to clear? In OE they cleared when I went from newsgroup to newsgroup. Is this just the way WinMail works or did I miss a setting somewhere?
I despair. Until recently I was running OE on Windows 98 and I regularly had problems with this same issue. I've gone onto Windows Mail with Vista and everything seem to be fine for the first month deleting mails en masse until now. I've got 299 items in my deleted folder and I can't empty it other than
by deleting one at a time.

View 7 Replies View Relatedusing this Windows Mail program to read messages in the MS bases. Where in the world is the internet files/cache/cookies stored now anyway? I've used the same method in viewing them for quite some time now, but using the same method after getting this new laptop with vista installed isn't showing me the files. I suppose that the files could be being handled differently now, but I'm not sure. So are these files STILL stored/accessed the same way?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI do not have Vista, or Windows Mail, or Hotmail, so I'm flying a bit blind here. I have an acquaintance who has Vista, but does all her emailing via Hotmail. Recently, she has had some problems with the Hotmail service, and she has asked me if it is possible for her to change to the mail program that comes with Vista. (Windows Mail?) The snag is, she would like to import the contents of of all her web-based Hotmail folders, (her email messages in other words), and her Hotmail contacts into whatever email program she changes to.
1. Would this be possible with Windows Mail, or does she need to write off all her Hotmail stuff and start again from scratch?
2. If it is not possible with Windows Mail, is it possible with any other email client, such as Thunderbird or similar?
Quite new to newsgroups within vista mail. In the past when I have used newsgroups and subscribed, I manage to be able to follow posts or look at messages from weeks ago. All I seem to be getting is 137 headers or whatever there called.Tried unsubscribing, reset etc. Do newsgroups work like normal mail that once you've downloaded you need to keep a copy on the server or you won't get that message ever again I posted a message yesterday and had to online to the Microsoft online newsgroup and search for my post.
View 9 Replies View RelatedHow to disable the email function of Vista Mail (you could do this in Outlook Express). I want Windows Mail for newsgroups only. In OE, the thing I'm asking about effectively it got rid of the mail folders (inbox, sent items etc). I use Outlook 2007 for my default email. I have deleted all email accounts in Windows Mail, but would like to know if there is a similar function as with OE.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI've moved from Outlook Express on my XP desktop to Windows mail on my Vista laptop. I plan on moving to Outlook on both computers, but not until I get this folder thing straightened out. I was able to import my OE mail into Windows Mail ok. Then I had a hard drive failure on my laptop. I had backed up my mail files and I was able to restore my Windows Mail ok.
I had several "Recovered Folders", but they included everything. I moved all of my folders out of the recovered folders and placed them once more under the Inbox. Then I deleted the empty recovered folders.
Now I want to backup my mail, not using the Vista backup, but with a third party. So when I go into my Windows Mail folder in Windows Explorer, I find all of the "recovered folders" are still there. Now they're listed as Local Folders. I can't find the configuration of my folders as I see them in Windows mail at all. I have a "Backup" folder with a "new" folder inside of it with a windows file that is unopenable.
