How can I stop emails from being deleted from the BT internet webserver after they have transferred to Windows mail? There used to be a setting in Outlook which would leave emails on the BT internet webserver for, say, 30 days... but I can't find this setting in Windows mail?
View 7 RepliesToday I had a need to find some questions and responses that I'd sent to and received from, some of the MS newsgroups (including this one). It seems that Vista Mail has auto-magically deleted a large number of old newsgroup messages that I had previously downloaded to my machine, so I've lost that history. I've been through all the dialog boxes I could find and I cannot find any "delete downloaded news messages after ...." option. Odder still, if I use the Mail search tool to find messages, it finds some.
If I then go back to the message viewer, that gets refreshed and the search "hits" disappear from the found items dialog. Are old messages actually being deleted from the MS servers somewhere and my local cache is then being kept up to date by deleting the old messages? So the question is, "How do I prevent Vista Mail from deleting old newsgroup messages?".
Recently got the big update which successfully self-installed and I am running Vista Home Premium 32 bit and Windows Mail version 6.0. I went to my inbox, read my mail, and got out of Windows Mail. When I went to check mail again, I launched Windows Mail again and discovered that the program now deletes all opened mail. I cannot find a setting within the program that allows/denies this.
I run a business from home, and all the threads from my customer service efforts are gone. I am working blind. Every call now is a first time contact, and that makes me look very, very bad. how do I keep opened mail in my inbox (or elsewhere). Does anyone else have that problem and know a solution? Also, I deleted a large quantity of emails from other folders in case it was a memory problem; it all started concurrently with that update.
All of a sudden my emails are deleting automatically.Everything it thinks I have read gets deleted.

View 4 Replies View RelatedJust as earlier post says...I too have, in just the past 2 days, begun to have something wacky going on with my Windows Mail. When I open, it receives and posts mesages in the appropriate folders so it is downloading the mesages and the count of how many in each folder. BUT, then the problems start...Sometimes, if I open the email and read it, then move to another folder with mail it deletes the emails just read in the first folder. Other times, it will delete the mail in one particular folder just as I click to open it and read them. I have already gone through and checked View---> Current View---Show All.
I have also watched carefully at the top right corner of my email and each of the 3 folders is marked "Show all Mesages". Nothing is marked to be "Hidden". I have also checked and re-checked the three message rules. The deleted mails are nowhere else to be found. It's now to the point where I may not even get to read them once deposited in the folder of my mailbox. One folder in particular is having the most problems.
I am running Windows Vista. I am having a problem with Windows Mail inthat every time I switch between folders, the last e-mail in my Inbox disappears. It doesn't go into the Deleted Items folder, it just vanishes. I have lost several important e-mails today.

I click on the highlighted email and drag it to my inbox and while the number in my deleted items folder increases the message is still actually in my inbox. It will then say "message cannot be displayed". I then click on the deleted items folder and the message is there. Then I go back to my inbox and it is no longer there. So my question is, why all of a sudden can't I move it? Also, when I open an email to read it, it is still showing as new until I click out of the folder.

I have messages in my inbox. I have the preview pane open. It doesn't show anything when the message is clicked. So I double click the messages and it has the original message as an attachment in the message that opens. So I click the attachment and then it tells me that Windows cannot find such and such file, check spelling and try again. Plus all the emails that I had previously saved as save as in regular file folders as .eml on my computer instead of opening up as a regular email, they open as if the origianl email is an attachment and give me the same message. One thing I really hate about windows stuff is they are always changing the looks of it and how it works and it never works right for long before it messes up like this email stuff.

One thing I would say is I am acctually away from home at the moment, so I am using internet in another house which is provided by a different ISP - could this be the problem as I have used Outlook Express on my PC at home for these same accounts and have had no problems.

Has anyone had problems with Windows Mail not working at all? It opens up and shows all my new and saved emails. After awhile I can no longer delete any emails. After yet another while, the entire thing goes blank and I can no longer see any of the emails much less send or receive any. I have contacted Dell three times and had them do remote troubleshooting, but it is still not functioning.

I verified with my web hoster that the email servers are pop3 and the server info is right (they can download into outlook express). the problem is that I can send emails from my computer using windows live mailer but I cannot receive them on my laptop. when I use the online web reader (horde) I can see new messages in my box. There are no errors shown when logging in, just the emails are not being grabbed from the server, what gives? I have norton's installed, but this doesn this when it is disabled too.

I was unable to open any of the attachments that were in my emails that previously I had been able to open. I did some reading here and found many references to incompatability with Norton and the need to change my security settings in Win Mail. almost by accident I came across a person who was not happy with IE8 and happened to mention that among other problems his Win Mail quit working properly after he upgraded to IE8. I uninstalled IE8 which reverted back to IE7 and now my Win Mail works correctly and all of my attachments can be opened.

I think the problem may lie in changimg my internet provider which is Melita. so should my incoming read lineone and the outgoing be the melita network which I think is onvol. My computer skills are basic so easy answers please. I have to use tiscali all the time but it takes longer to read my mail because of all the adverst etc downloaded along with the mail. Windows is obviously quicker if only I could send them.

Windows Vista won't start up anymore. Various problems occur during the start up that prevent it from starting up. It occurred around 3pm or 4pm today when i was just on the internet and talking with my friend on MSN and then BAM! BSOD! The PC rebooted itself and came back up, but then it began giving me a looping 'windows explorer.exe has stopped working' error. So I rebooted again.
I tried Last known good configuration and it didn't work. Gives me a flashing BSOD and the PC restarts itself. Attempts to boot into normal mode sometimes brings BSOD and sometimes just stays black before the circular Windows vista logo that should appear.......
Have my own domain and can't send emails to my 2nd user account or to myself using Windows Mail. Added my domain to the safe senders list but it still just black-holes. No errors ion the log, nothing indicating there is a problem. If I use another client the mail goes thru just fine.
