View 9 RepliesI just purchased this laptop and created my email account. I verified with my web hoster that the email servers are pop3 and the server info is right (they can download into outlook express). the problem is that I can send emails from my computer using windows live mailer but I cannot receive them on my laptop. when I use the online web reader (horde) I can see new messages in my box. There are no errors shown when logging in, just the emails are not being grabbed from the server, what gives? I have norton's installed, but this doesn this when it is disabled too.

Now every time I switch on my computer I have to type in my User Name and Password as normal but I get a message immediately underneath saying I have X-number of unread emails. These turn out to be emails to my daughter. If she logs in then her email only shows the recent emails that she has not read. My login shows ALL of them. It is becoming frustrating having to delete all her emails. I assume she has set up a forwarding facilty in her account. How can this be switched off so I don't get her emails.

We are members of several Yahoo Groups and ALL the emails that come through from the groups are marked with an attachment icon. Yahoo does not allow attachments in their group emails, so why the icons and how do I get rid of them? Our regular emails that are not from one of the Yahoo groups only have the attachment icon when there is an actual attachment, so what's with the Yahoo emails? I checked the email settings to allow html and pictures and set the security setting for "Internet Zone" which is less restrictive, but the icons still show up.

View 5 Replies View RelatedOn Monday morning, as usual checking mail in office using windows mail, all attachment was able to open (through the paper clip icon or save into other location.
Then after lunch, all type of attachment (picture, excel, words, pdf.) can not be open through the paper clip icon. Then i try to save it and open again, these message pop up "there was an error saving one or more of the attachments. Please check your free disk space and try again", i can't safe the attachment.
If forwarded to other people, it's ok, open and view as normal.
Another thing I encounter, i can't open web based email attachment as well,
since I'd forward (to try) the office attachment mail to my personal account.
I try to save it, the saving process as usual, but when saving is done, the file was not saved at all.
I'm using Vista Home basic, Version 6.0 (build 6002: SP2)

I have Win defender ON, and AVG free edition, Version 9.0.708
Some said it's IE 8 causing the problem, so i uninstall it, the same problem happened.
now I'm using IE 7 (Version 7.0.6002.18005)
Incoming jpg photo attachments cannot be opened. When I click on an attached file, the message "Windows can't find jpg file" appears. Get the same error if I want to open an outgoing jpg file. Have not made any changes to the computer other than adding IE8, but this problem occured before installing that. Reboots don't help and haven't found anything in troubleshooting that addresses this issue.

I keep current with upgrades. This laptop has always had a screwy copy of windows. I'm looking forward to Windows 7. I hope it has drivers for my 2+ year old Acer Aspire 5610. But I'll lose about 20% of my apps, because I either don't have the CD's
anymore, or I downloaded the app.
Whenever I click on an email attachment for instance when replying to a craigslist item, 2 windows pop up and say that my computer is low on memory or is unstable and the other window says that MSDOE could not be started or something like that because it is busy due to spyware scanning it or something. Any clue how to get it to work?

Before I installed SP1, I had to re-image my hard drive. A shortcut comes up in word to the word document but says the path is invalid, but it also says that the file is on F drive, which I didn't use. This is a final project for a college class.

my vista mail takes a very long time when I have something attached to the outgoing mail. Even a very small attachment of 9 kbytes takes about 30 seconds. I have vista ultimative 64 bit danish version sp1. I have tried to disable antivirus/firewall but it is still the same. Prolonging the servers responstime in account options to 1 minut..doesn? View 8 Replies View RelatedWe have a Windows Server 2003 active directory domain, ISA server with VPN, and one Windows Vista client. The Vista owner calls me every time he wants to connect with VPN, and tells me that he cannot. Looking in Active Directory shows me, that his domain user account is locked out. When I unlock the account he is able to login. It seems that something (a service? office 2007?) does try to authenticate with wrong credentials, and locks his account every time it can.
I have the default settings for the account lockout policy, threshold of 3, and 0 for lockout duration. This problem is really annoying so much, that I think about to tell him to uninstall Vista and install XP again. The XP users don't have this problem at all. I've looked around in the web and found some other users that have the same problem. But I found no solution for it.
When connecting to network print devices. Printer Spooler crashes repeatedly. This happens on startup occationaly. It happens when running logon scripts. I have tried numerous scripts VBS and BAT files. All of which work 100% on XP boxes. When connecting manually it will load 1 or 2 devices then spooler will fail. I notice that there are 1000's of posts related to this issue. Is there a FIX or Workarount from Microsoft? Vista will never go in my enterprise at this rate...

since upgrading tp Vista, Both windows Mail and Live mail do not always donnload messages from my pop 3 accounts. I have to open my accounts online and when I have opened the accounts both mail and live mail will then down load messages, This does not happen all of the time, so I know the account settings are correct. It is just annoying that I have to check online every day rather than just checking mail or live mail. This never happened with XP running Outlook Express. is this a problem with Vista, or my mail servers
View 5 Replies View RelatedA few days ago I began experiencing an odd behavior on my Vista box, every time I opened the start menu and typed something into the search box explorer.exe crashed. Further investigation discovered that was also happening when typing anything into the Run command, into a window address bar and even when typing anything into a New Shortcut address.
NOTE: If you just want to know the solution go to the end of the post .
Using the great tools provided by Sysinternals and by Microsoft, I launched my comprehensive investigation of the problem.
First of all, I set WinDBG to be the default JIT debugger for crashed applications by running Code: windbg.exe -I.
Next, I caused explorer.exe to crash (which was easy) and analyzed the dump using !analyze -v.
Studying the dump I didn't find any interesting clues except that the call stack of the faulting thread showed that some ole32 and urlmonitor extensions of explorer were there.
So, using Autoruns (by Sysinternals) I first disabled 3rd party extensions like FileZilla shell extension and WinRAR shell extension. Crashed explorer, it restarted and the problem persisted. Next, I disabled all OLE32 and URLMON related extensions, but still explorer was crashing.
Well, if at first you don't succeed - USE MORE EXPLOSIVES!!!
Next, I disabled everything in the Explorer tab of Autoruns hoping that it wouldn't break anything and stop explorer from crashing but to no avail.
Now I got pissed, I launched Process Monitor and Process Explorer, and started crashing the hell out of explorer while comparing the dumps, call stacks, thread IDs, thread methods, file accessed by explorer prior to the crash and registry keys accessed by explorer prior to the crash.
Well, the thread causing the crash was running SHLWAPI.DLL!PathIsRootW and by examining the output of Process Monitor I could see that it was looking for whatever I typed into the address box in PATH folders, favorites and search locations.
Finally, I decided to become BFF with the WinDBG help and find out what else the !analyze extension could offer. Apparently, beside the (very useful) -v switch it also provides the -f and -hang switches that give you more information.
Using these I found that the problem was cause by urlmon.dll, specifically by the ~CUri destructor. From the call stack I could see that ntdll!RtlFreeHeap was the last method to be called, and it was called by the ~CUri destructor and caused a Heap Corruption Exception.
Anyway, since I was really annoyed by this problem for two days by now and in an hour I had to be at a wedding I did something that I regret, I used the first solution that came to mind.
!!! SOLUTION !!!
I deleted the Internet Explorer browsing history (address history).
It solved the problem which probably was caused by some address (and could be a bug in urlmon.dll) but now I can't further investigate to find what was the exact address in the history that caused the crash.
I apologize for the long story but I feel the need to pass the knowledge to others.
There might be some holes in the plot, but that is probably the best I can do at 3:30 AM after a long day....
I do no find any Windows Live Mail group, i therefore post my question here ;-) How can I import mail rules in windows live mail? ( windows live mail and not windows mail)
