View 5 RepliesHotmail recently announced that they are changing the protocol that will make it incompatible with Outlook Express. There is a new mail client called 'Windows Live Mail' that addresses this. I installed it on my XP Pro machine and it works pretty nicely. Will Windows Mail - standard with Vista support the new Hotmail format? Are any special setups required?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm using Windows Vista Home, downloaded the new Windows Live Mail, cos i need to access my hotmail (Windows Mail does not support). However, i am only able to read the "header & sender" of each message. The content cannot be shown. Error message:WINDOWS LIVE MAIL encountered an unexpected problem while displaying this message. CHeck your computer for low memory or low disk space and try again.
I've been searching thru the net trying to find a solution to this for a few days already. Basically tried everything others suggested, but still no help. Some of the steps i tried:
1. Manually configure server settings for e-mail account. --> HTTP server
2. deleting everything in C:Documents and SettingsLiamLocal SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftWindows Live Mail
3.uninstall & reinstall Windows Live Mail
4.disable antivirus & firewall etc
5.sign in to hotmail (using www.hotmail.com) -some say this need to be done the 1st time
6. i tried so many things, i dont really remember However, there's no problem accessing gmail with Windows Live Mail.
this just always pops up: The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop3.live.com', Server: 'pop3.live.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
View 9 Replies View RelatedI trying to open or view some attachments within Windows Mail. Usually it is attachments with a pps suffix, but not always. For example if I have an attachment amed "CreativeShotsAZ.pps" and click on it Open Office will open and then I will get the error message "C:Sysyem32CreativeShotsAZ does not exist". If I try to copy the attachment to the desktop I get the message "Could not find this item. This is no longer located in CreativeShotsAZ,pps.Verify the item's location and try again. I thought maybe that the pps format could not be read by Open Office so I downloaded a pps reader from Microsoft but since the system cannot find the
file I can't use the reader.
I just migrated to 64 bit Vista and I have Windows Mail. When I was using 32 bit Vista I had all my Hotmail folders, newsgroups, calendar, etc. when I selected the Mail icon. Is there a way to migrate Hotmail to Windows Mail, or a way to replace Windows Mail with what I had when I was using 32 bit Vista? I had IE 8 with 32 bit and I have IE 8 with 64 bit.

to be able to read/view the attachment?
I just did a restore to factory settings. Before I was using MS Mail (Live) I believe. I had MSN & Vz both configured, along w/my Newsgroups. Now it seems like here in MS mail I can't set up my MSN.com Hotmail account. I get some sort of msg. saying the format is no longer supported. Can someone tell me what settings I need to put in? I tried MS Live and that seems to only take MS Hotmail. Outlook 2k7 is also balking at me. I'd like to get all mail in 1 place. Can someone tell me where to find the info. needed or point me in the rightdirection of setting up any 1 of these apps.
View 8 Replies View RelatedE-mail messages has been sent out from my Hotmail account without me having to do with it. This is approx the 3rd or 4th time that it happened and I am getting concerned about the security of my account. I am so embarrassed to all my contacts because they are receiving e-mails which are actually not from me. They are usually messages with a link to a website selling electronic goods and what-have-you's!! It???s a hotmail.com account but which I usually access via the web or by something that looks like Outlook Express. I am worried that my hotmail account has been hacked! What should I do to stop this from happening again?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have IE8, Windows Vista and Windows Mail, which shows as my default mail and only email address.
I would like to have my Hotmail address as my default mail, but Windows Mail will not allow me to add Hotmail. Wizard error says it does not support HTTP and I cannot see anywhere under Hotmail options/more options where it allows me to change any type of connections to POP3.
I read it can be done in G-Mail, but unfortunately I have Hotmail.
Is downloading "Windows Live" and uninstalling my "Windows Mail" a solution?
I have all my mail forwarded to Hotmail, so I wouldn't lose saved messages.
I cannot send mails via my hotmail e-mail address for approximately two months; when I try to send one I get a notification saying that I have to activate my hotmail account. When I click on the link to activate it and enter the confirmation code as required I get a page with a error code on it. How can I solve this issue if needed I can provide additional details.

View 4 Replies View RelatedVista and Office 2003, I have 4 accounts on this computer that all connect to the same email account in Windows Mail. Everything was fine but now when I log onto one of the Windows accounts and go to Windows Mail I can't download or view attachements. When I try to download them it says I don't have enough disk space (90Gigs free) and the .pps icons aren't even the same as they are when I open that same email account with the other Windows accounts. Seems to be some sort of file association mix up or something. but I cant even download them which is weird? I hope I didn't make this too complicated and I hope to hear from someone soon!
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy Windows Explorer has had the most annoying set of attributes, ever since I got Vista and I can't find a way to change them. When I open a folder, the files always want to default to a large icon view with a preview screen. I change them by customizing the folder and they sometimes change back. Some folders aren't customizable at all. Every folder is defaulted to be a pictures folder, but I want all folders to be just files.
If I want a pictures folder, of which I only have a few, I should be able to set only those folders as pictures. The windows folders don't need a Rating column or a Date Taken column. I want the details. My C: drive and Windows folder views are unchangeable other than manually setting the columns on and off. Then they change right back. Where can I change the default view of all folders?
This is about Windows 7, I do not know whether this is an issue in Vista. Seems like Microsoft has undervalued the folder view, maybe even trying to get rid of it. Some time after Windows 98, I think Microsoft improved folder view by allowing a single click on the folder name to expand subfolders underneath. Now with Windows 7, clicking on the default taskbar folder opens with the folder view exposed. Apparently Microsoft again understands how useful folder view is. But, unless I am mistaken, here we go again... Currently I am looking at Windows 7, trying to find the setting to allow single clicking on a folder name in the folder view to expand the folder. Before, it was the same function as clicking on the small plus mark on the left side of the folder name. In the main window of Windows Explorer, you can enable hover to select and a single click to expand the folder, but that IMO sucks when working with files.
Is there a setting in Windows 7 which allows a single click on a folder name in folder view to expand the subfolders underneath that folder in folder view? Or are we stuck once again having to click the small plus sign to the left of the folder name?
No as you can see from these forum posts, and many others across the web, users demand stabilty, performance and reliability. I doubt anyone cares for all the bits that have been put into Windows over the years, all we see is ever increasing disk, memory and CPU requirements for little benefit over what was shipped in NT4! (*imagine all the things that have been added to Vista could have been added directly to NT4 and no-one would have complained).
The fact of the matter is that Windows has lost its way and become a bloated mass of inconsistent, poorly engineered, badly fitting components. The problem is more due to a lack of control over the entire thing that has allowed it to spread and sag. I'm sure someone thought it woudl be a good idea to put the winsxs directory in, but they didn't do it well enough - not if it continues to grow in size like it does. If the directory was simply a cache of files you've got to ask how could they get it so wrong? If they simply took the version number from the dll, created a directory of that name, and placed the dll in it, we wouldn't have this issue at all.......
I'm sorry for wasn't here for a very long time - But I'm back! Last time my Windows Explorer Just didn't remember the folder view.. but today it just reset all the settings.. But this isn't the problem the problem is that it have changed the default view.. It's Hebrew so everything is mirrored. I'v tried Brink's Tutorial in method 2 that helped me last time..

View 9 Replies View RelatedThere were plenty of reasons to avoid moving to Vista, but I've done so under duress: my laptop died and Vista is the only 64-bit system installed on PCs these days. Unfortunately, I CANNOT set the program called Windows Live Hotmail as my default mail program. Under the topic of Hotmail and Vista, the only postings on this are dated to 2007. Surely someone has configured a system with this revised version of Hotmail. It runs on this computer, but is not recognized as a setting for default.
I DO NOT want Windows Live Mail. I DO NOT want Outlook, I DO NOT want Microsoft Windows... Been there, done that. Does anyone have a work around, or must I strip Vista and load XP? So far I've wasted ten days trying to deal with Vista. This is about to push me over the edge and back to XP!
Since activating Parental Controls using Vista 64-bit SP1, whenever I try to access my hotmail account using the web gui, I get the following error message: This webpage is not available. The webpage at Sign In might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address. More information on this error Below is the original error message Error 320 (net::ERR_INVALID_RESPONSE): Unknown error.
I can access my HotMail messages by direct download into the Outlook application on my Vista PC, and also via web gui in XP. How can I figure out what setting I need to relax in Parental Controls, to allow me to access my mail? For me it is less urgent than for my son: he is also prevented from using the web gui, and doesn't have the luxury of an Outlook account.
