Seems like almost everything I do now in Hotmail in Firefox browser generates a NoScript HiJack attempt warning. Some mumbojumbo about redirecting stuff, even though I'm just going into a mail folder. Is it just me or is everybody seeing this crap?

Every few days my home page get hijacked by MSN and a window comes up to download I.E 8 which I have already since last summer. Each time I change back to my home page and click on ask me later on the I.E. 8 popup because there is no other option. I did all the scans with Zone Alarm Extreme Security, ad-aware, S&D spybot, malwarebytes and CC cleaner.

Every time I delete it, this stupid Calculating time remaining pops up....and the file cant get deleted because the explorer stops responding, and I have to restart explorer. The file is only 290K. And the system can't delete it! Also when I right click on it and click preferences, it never comes up.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI want to run programs, delete desktop shortcuts, move things in and out of the programs file folder, read compiled HTML help files and lots of other things all without having to deal with warning boxes at every turn. And even if I do deal with them and change settings, like taking the check out of "Always do this for the type of file" or unblocked compiled HTML files, Vista just undoes everything. I just reformatted my entire machine thinking there was something wrong because of all the program compiled help files I couldn't open. I tried Tweak UAC, but it only handles a small amount of this stuff.
I need to stop all this stuff. I'm open to anything - deleting system files, dlls, registry tweaks, anything.
We developed a program to integrate a large amount of data for National Air and Space Museum (NASM) volunteer use. The program works fine, but our users are relatively unsophisticated volunteers. They get confused by the warnings issued by Access when opening our program. Our users run at multiple Win2K and XP machines and load our program and the data over the Smithsonian intranet. ....Note that the path shown above is when I'm testing on my home network, not at NASM. Also, that warning was from Office 2007 but at NASM they are still using Office 2003, so the dialog box is different.
Also, the error message is different under Office 2003 (and a lot more confusing for users.) I'm not at NASM now, so I can't see the exact text of how the error appears there. I'll post that tomorrow when I go there. How can we avoid these warnings? Would it work for us to obtain and publish a certificate for the program code? If so, does it need to be reissued each time we make a change? (Since we have only been up and running for users since January, the code is still being modified as we gain experience.)

View 9 Replies View RelatedOne of my computers is a Gateway desktop, that came with Vista Home Premium. This computer has been giving me problems ever since I got it last May. It has been giving me unexpected shut downs without warnings. I have formated the hard drive numerous times, and finally paid Gateway to get the restore disk so that I could do this. Well, the problem kept continuing. I had talked to Gateway numerous times also. Anyway, the last straw was yesterday when I restored again, and this time she did a shut down on me when it was installing the necessary updates.
Now I knew it wasn't a software incapability or something that I loaded that was causing it. So I called Gateway again, and this time I rant and raving about how I was frustrated about this and I wanted to find a way to absolutely clear my hard drive from this corrupted thing or virus, so I could do another clean format. After her research about this................
I'm on Vista Ultimate, how can I disable the annoying warning alerts that pop up from system tray?
for example:
-- "this device can perform faster" (doesn't even tell you what device..)
-- Java update available.
-- user account warning
-- and all other annoying warnings
I want to disable all these warning alerts,
I am using vista home premium with a 64-bit operating system. I have Avast free antivirus installed. I started getting messages from Vista Defender that my computer was being attacked by viruses, spyware and trojan horses. When I clicked "remove all" they wanted me to buy something. I restarted my computer and I am no longer getting the vista defender warnings, but I can't access several programs like windows media player, yahoo messenger etc.
Also, the icons for these programs disappeared from my task bar. When I try to launch these programs from the start menu I get a message that says "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item". I'm the only one that uses this computer.
So whats better, firefox 2 or 3.. the Official release of Firefox 3 has came right.. it's already been released?? How does it compare.. I'm sick of using Firefox 1.. I never got 2. and I don't wanna use IE.. so I was just hoping to hear from a few people and see what you all think.. Post comments please...

There is a new mail client called 'Windows Live Mail' that addresses this. I installed it on my XP Pro machine and it works pretty nicely. Now it seems like here in MS mail I can't set up my MSN.com Hotmail account. I get some sort of msg. saying the format is no longer supported. Can someone tell me what settings I need to put in? I tried MS Live and that seems to only take MS Hotmail. Outlook 2k7 is also balking at me. I'd like to get all mail in 1 place. However, i am only able to read the "header & sender" of each message. The content cannot be shown. Error message:WINDOWS LIVE MAIL encountered an unexpected problem while displaying this message. CHeck your computer for low memory or low disk space and try again.
I've been searching thru the net trying to find a solution to this for a few days already. Basically tried everything others suggested, but still no help. Some of the steps i tried:
1. Manually configure server settings for e-mail account. --> HTTP server
2. deleting everything in C:Documents and SettingsLiamLocal SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftWindows Live Mail
3.uninstall & reinstall Windows Live Mail
4.disable antivirus & firewall etc
5.sign in to hotmail (using www.hotmail.com) -some say this need to be done the 1st time
6. i tried so many things, i dont really remember However, there's no problem accessing gmail with Windows Live Mail.
I downloaded the newest WLM beta (build 14.0.8050.1202) and whenever I click on the Mail notification instead of taking me to the usual login page i end up at NineMSN Hotmail. They are technically the same site as after you login you end up in the same place but i prefer the look of the proper Hotmail (or Windows Live) login page.

This is approx the 3rd or 4th time that it happened and I am getting concerned about the security of my account. I am so embarrassed to all my contacts because they are receiving e-mails which are actually not from me. I would like to have my Hotmail address as my default mail, but Windows Mail will not allow me to add Hotmail. Wizard error says it does not support HTTP and I cannot see anywhere under Hotmail options/more options where it allows me to change any type of connections to POP3.
I read it can be done in G-Mail, but unfortunately I have Hotmail.

There were plenty of reasons to avoid moving to Vista, but I've done so under duress: my laptop died and Vista is the only 64-bit system installed on PCs these days. Unfortunately, I CANNOT set the program called Windows Live Hotmail as my default mail program. Under the topic of Hotmail and Vista, the only postings on this are dated to 2007. Surely someone has configured a system with this revised version of Hotmail. It runs on this computer, but is not recognized as a setting for default.
I DO NOT want Windows Live Mail. I DO NOT want Outlook, I DO NOT want Microsoft Windows... Been there, done that. Does anyone have a work around, or must I strip Vista and load XP? So far I've wasted ten days trying to deal with Vista. This is about to push me over the edge and back to XP!
I cannot send mails via my hotmail e-mail address for approximately two months; when I try to send one I get a notification saying that I have to activate my hotmail account. When I click on the link to activate it and enter the confirmation code as required I get a page with a error code on it. How can I solve this issue if needed I can provide additional details.

I can access my HotMail messages by direct download into the Outlook application on my Vista PC, and also via web gui in XP. How can I figure out what setting I need to relax in Parental Controls, to allow me to access my mail? For me it is less urgent than for my son: he is also prevented from using the web gui, and doesn't have the luxury of an Outlook account.
