Recommend An All In One Antivirus, Firewall, Etc.
Apr 13, 2008Would anyone happen to be able to recommend an all in one antivirus, firewall, etc. that works with Vista well and doesnt have problems on the OS and also runs without using a lot of memory? I have Norton 360 v2 and System Mechanic 7 Pro, and i'm stuck on which or if either should be used on Vista?

I had norton when I got my PC new and I totally didn't like it.. not at all. it was slow, sluggish. I just wasn't a fan.. so I got a trial of Kaspersky.. honestly I liked Kaspersky.. it seemed to work well, very fast, very user freindly, let me customize any and all scans and updates.. everything. I liked it.. but after a few months my internet stopped working.. after over a week of nothing fixing it someone here in vistax64 told me Kaspersky has been causing problems with Vista.. so I uninstalled and There you have it. My Internet works..
so my problem now is I need a security suite or an antivirus and I want everyones opinion on whats best. what should I use, a suite or just a antivirus.. money and price doesn't matter. I'm concidering giving Kaspersky another shot because it was so nice, but don't want to have problems again. Other than that I've been told to totally go with NOD32..

May 24, 2009As soon as i got my custom HP laptop, i unstalled Norton anti-virus, it is a total piece of crap that eats up my ram etc, etc... But, i do need an anti-virus program
To stop the little bubble thing to stop coming out from the taskbar at start up, i selected the option thati would monitor my own systesm secruity.. All i really have as a sure way of defense is Windows Defender. it is worling great so-far, worst thing i've gotten was a Trojan Downloader, quickley removed, and i only got it from a fake website that looked like Adobe Flash-Player Updater's site But, i need something that is free, and wont demolish my computer speed, But can get the job done!

About The Change Of Antivirus Program: Remove The Preinstalled Mcafee For Avg
Apr 29, 2009i bought a laptop acer aspire 4930g before six months. it previously contained the mcafee antivirus as the security. so i was ok then. now it is asking me to renew the mcafee. but i want to put avg. i can not put avg without uninstalling the mcafee. now i am having trouble deciding that what should i do. which is the better ? can i remove the preinstalled mcafee for avg? because i am getting avg for free. will avg do the same job ? may be mcafee was giving the full protection and avg may not give the same? i am using windows vista premium. please tell me that if it is ok to install avg and remove the mcafee for the full internet security.

Until i decided to download AVG. Whilst running this scan AVG discovered i have a Vundo. 0 trojan. AVG stated the trojan had been deleted. However i decided to manually remove the program the trojan was found in (a zip file for registry mechanic sent from a friend). I also uninstalled the program. However the problem is still there and i cannot access certian sites. Does anyone know what i can do to get rid of this problem? I have tried a vundo removal program and also vundobegone (in which you start the program in safe mode) these both returned a nothing found result.

I mean most of us these days are behind a router which has a built in firewall already. I honestly even didn't run my firewall with xp and was fine with it

May 9, 2010I'm trying to help out my sister on her laptop (Compaq Vista 32bit). Here are the problems:
Can not access Windows Security Center.. It comes up on the tool bar red with the X. When you try to open it either off the tool bar or even through the Control Center you get: A "open with" window to select the program to open "rundll32.exe". I have tried the tutuorial on this site to change security center from disabled to automatic, this did not work, it defaults back to disabled. Will not start up the Microsoft Security Essentials antivirus program automatically on startup. You must manaul start and either run as adminstrator to start or go through the "open with window" process. All program starts require to go through the "open with window" approach and some that does not work and you need to right click on the program and "run as administrator" to start the program (i.e. intenet exployer). I have manually run Microsoft Security Essentials and removed numerous virus and trojans.
I am familar with XP and Windows 7, not Vista...
