Recommend Download Manager To Use (even An Add-on For Firefox)?
Jul 18, 2009
I would really love to hear you suggestions on what downloader manager(s) to use (even an add-on for Firefox). I just wanted to know because I asked my friends, and each use use different ones and cannot decide which can be called "the best" (if there is one)
ok so i use vista home premium, have firefox installed. I cannot download anything using firefox or IE. whenever i do try to download the download window comes up and downloads all the way. I do not use desktop as the place where files are placed so it doesnt get cluttered, but it is in a folder on the desktop.
When it is done downloading there is nothing in the folder. It will be there while downloading ( and i can do anything with it), but when the download finishes the file dissapears and is unable to be found anywhere. It is not hidden or anything. I've done full advanced computer searches and the file cannot be found. I have AVG, but it is disabled.
I am in a few college classes and another problem that i am having is that when i try to take my homework off the site (usually in a .zip or .doc format), i have an error that comes up saying Cannot open C:UsersRyan'sAppdataLocalTempStudentDownload.zip (or .doc) this is a HUGE!!!problem as i cannot afford to run back and forth to the college everyday trying to get my homework done.
If you go to Softpedia.com and click the Windows button you'll see an announcement and download links for Firefox 3.6 RC1. I just put it on both my PCs(W7 32 bit and Vista64 SP1.) Those running GradientIcool Blue theme may have to reload/reinstall the theme. After I did that using FEBE addon, my AddOn buttons showed in the status bar again. It passed my litmus tests. The pop-down descriptions on TV Guide site work, Silverlight video works on Netflix, and my AutoCopy AddOn copies. So far I haven't found any quirks or bugs.
For information on how your program can cause an assertion failure, see the Visual C++ documentation on asserts (Press Retry to debug the application - JIT must be enabled) The thought just occurred to me that there might be conflicting mozilla settings, since I'm using a hard drive (d that previously had mozilla on it, but I didn't remove the data.
3. Avira AntiVir Personal: Avira AntiVir Personal - FREE Antivirus
Please post if there are anymore free anti-virus editions. For #5 (Comodo Internet Security Suite), there is a bug. If you click the link, it will go to Comodo Anti-Virus, you can use Anti-Virus. If you want Internet Security, click it on the left side panel.
I guess GigaGet is no longer developed but I like it a lot. I was wondering if anyone knows what settings to use in order to avoid "the url already exists" when downloading?
Other than that nuisance, I really like using this downloader. There must be some setting I haven't figured out to get it to stop tracking what I've already downloaded and just download the thing I want!
On my Vista Ultimate laptop , I was using Microsoft Download Manager to bring down some large files , but I had to leave so I suspended all queued files and shut-down Windows. Now I can't figure out how to restart the Download Manager.
I bought a laptop a few days ago and I install some application on it. I use internet download manager (IDM) to download things when I am downloading this bluescreen occur.

The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.......
When using Computer Management > Device Manager : Generally speaking is it a good idea to let it automatically search the internet for the latest device driver , download it , and install it? How well does this technology work?
When i download Files using Firefox or IE once they have downloaded they vanish from the files i save them too. I cannot find them anywhere on the computer i have even tried opening the files rather than saving them using IE. still no luck it jsut wont open.

Recently I bought an iPod, and I want it to enjoy movies. Therefore I need a DVD Ripper. However, you know, at present in the market, there are so many kinds of DVD Rippers. I have little idea of which one I should choose. So I wonder whether you guys can give me a hand to recommend me some kind of useful software.
out of these 2 video cards, which of these would you recommend? Newegg.com - MSI N94GT-MD512 GeForce 9400 GT 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards
Would anyone happen to be able to recommend an all in one antivirus, firewall, etc. that works with Vista well and doesnt have problems on the OS and also runs without using a lot of memory? I have Norton 360 v2 and System Mechanic 7 Pro, and i'm stuck on which or if either should be used on Vista?
I'm running Windows Vista 32 bit Home blah, blah, blah, with a NVIDIA GEForce 6150 graphics card. I have 2 monitors, but believe I need to purchase another video/graphics card. Anyone smarter than me out there (that was meant to be self depricating), that could recommend a plain jain, cheap graphics card so I can hook up my second monitor? I'm not into gaming, just love having two monitors at work, and once you have two, you can't handle one, right?
Multiple support reps at Toshiba have told me that Toshiba does not recommend using the hibernate mode as it may damage the system board. They referred to it as "overhibernation" and they recommend only using the full shut down. Sounds screwy to me. Opinions please
Windows Vista's file search is maybe for just casual searches, not for serious searches. I often need to find files with various criteria such as file size, date or string in the text and so on. Is there any file search utility that you would recommend?
I bought my dell computer with vista last Feb.I was having problems with different things,so I decided to buy window xp and I put that on and it has been great, but I would like vista back and I am wondering if a lot of the bugs have been worked out.Would anyone recommend putting vista back on my computer?

I have Vista Ultimate 64, sometimes when I am downloading a large file download does not finish and I get an error box that the download had timed out. How can I stop this, the sites where is happens do no support resuming and I only have a slow connection.
I use the latest version of Firefox. I will get a message saying that I'm in unsecure mode, and the way to fix it is to install a program from Microsoft (attached is a screenshot). However, even though it says that it's from Microsoft, if I double click it, it says it's from an unknown publisher.... what gives? And if I keep running the stupid AV and spyware bull, then why does this keep happening?
I'm running Vista Ultimate x64 OEM without any issues, until now.
Yesterday my computer was running just fine, but now, all of the sudden, it seems like it doesnt want to cooperate.
Here's a small list of thumbnails to make telling my story a whole lot easier:
1) On startup - nothing appears out of the ordinary..
2) Starting firefox results in nothing but a blank page.
3) Closing firefox results in error.
4) Opening up Binary Newsreader = errors.
5) Closing Binary Newsreader = more errors.
6) Opening FTP app results in similar errors.

So my question to you, wise and noble users of Vistax64.com - what can I do to resolve these problems?
As mentioned earlier, I had *no* issues with my system yesterday.
I've been running Firefox 3 Beta 5 for a few weeks on Vista Home Premium. I started to get a message saying that Firefox couldn't be started because it was already running. Kill the process or reboot. Upon investigation in the Task Manager, Firefox is not running as an application or process?
