ok so i use vista home premium, have firefox installed. I cannot download anything using firefox or IE. whenever i do try to download the download window comes up and downloads all the way. I do not use desktop as the place where files are placed so it doesnt get cluttered, but it is in a folder on the desktop.
When it is done downloading there is nothing in the folder. It will be there while downloading ( and i can do anything with it), but when the download finishes the file dissapears and is unable to be found anywhere. It is not hidden or anything. I've done full advanced computer searches and the file cannot be found. I have AVG, but it is disabled.
I am in a few college classes and another problem that i am having is that when i try to take my homework off the site (usually in a .zip or .doc format), i have an error that comes up saying Cannot open C:UsersRyan'sAppdataLocalTempStudentDownload.zip (or .doc) this is a HUGE!!!problem as i cannot afford to run back and forth to the college everyday trying to get my homework done.
If you go to Softpedia.com and click the Windows button you'll see an announcement and download links for Firefox 3.6 RC1. I just put it on both my PCs(W7 32 bit and Vista64 SP1.) Those running GradientIcool Blue theme may have to reload/reinstall the theme. After I did that using FEBE addon, my AddOn buttons showed in the status bar again. It passed my litmus tests. The pop-down descriptions on TV Guide site work, Silverlight video works on Netflix, and my AutoCopy AddOn copies. So far I haven't found any quirks or bugs.
I would really love to hear you suggestions on what downloader manager(s) to use (even an add-on for Firefox). I just wanted to know because I asked my friends, and each use use different ones and cannot decide which can be called "the best" (if there is one)
For information on how your program can cause an assertion failure, see the Visual C++ documentation on asserts (Press Retry to debug the application - JIT must be enabled) The thought just occurred to me that there might be conflicting mozilla settings, since I'm using a hard drive (d that previously had mozilla on it, but I didn't remove the data.
When i download Files using Firefox or IE once they have downloaded they vanish from the files i save them too. I cannot find them anywhere on the computer i have even tried opening the files rather than saving them using IE. still no luck it jsut wont open.
For all you people who have been looking for a way to get Vista's glass effect in Firefox, look no further. Here is an extension for Firefox 3 that will do it. (supports 32bit and 64bit FF versions) Information Here: [Ext] Glasser 1.0.16 (BETA) - Add Vista Glass to Firefox • mozillaZine Forums. Menubar Addon: This Addon hides the File/Edit/View/tools menu using the ALT key to show it temporarily.
So whats better, firefox 2 or 3.. the Official release of Firefox 3 has came right.. it's already been released?? How does it compare.. I'm sick of using Firefox 1.. I never got 2. and I don't wanna use IE.. so I was just hoping to hear from a few people and see what you all think.. Post comments please...
I have Vista Ultimate 64, sometimes when I am downloading a large file download does not finish and I get an error box that the download had timed out. How can I stop this, the sites where is happens do no support resuming and I only have a slow connection.
I use the latest version of Firefox. I will get a message saying that I'm in unsecure mode, and the way to fix it is to install a program from Microsoft (attached is a screenshot). However, even though it says that it's from Microsoft, if I double click it, it says it's from an unknown publisher.... what gives? And if I keep running the stupid AV and spyware bull, then why does this keep happening?
I'm running Vista Ultimate x64 OEM without any issues, until now.
Yesterday my computer was running just fine, but now, all of the sudden, it seems like it doesnt want to cooperate.
Here's a small list of thumbnails to make telling my story a whole lot easier:
1) On startup - nothing appears out of the ordinary..
2) Starting firefox results in nothing but a blank page.
3) Closing firefox results in error.
4) Opening up Binary Newsreader = errors.
5) Closing Binary Newsreader = more errors.
6) Opening FTP app results in similar errors.

So my question to you, wise and noble users of Vistax64.com - what can I do to resolve these problems?
As mentioned earlier, I had *no* issues with my system yesterday.
I've been running Firefox 3 Beta 5 for a few weeks on Vista Home Premium. I started to get a message saying that Firefox couldn't be started because it was already running. Kill the process or reboot. Upon investigation in the Task Manager, Firefox is not running as an application or process?
I just got vista 64bit and Mozilla Firefox keeps crashing on me. I've heard there are some compatibility issues with Firefox and 64bit windows. Is there a patch out, a windows tweak or an alternate version of Firefox out to solve this issue? Another application I'm having trouble installing is Flash CS4, It keeps preparing the install files to a temp folder and then tells me that it needs to close and to check the destination drives disk space/ write protection settings. (note the destination drive has over 400gb left on it!)
firefox or ie 32 bit does not work, it wont connect to the internet, neither will aim. however i can go on websites with ie x64 bit version. but i cant go to Internet and such because flash doesnt work with the 64 bit version.
Every time an update comes out for FF 3.6, even though I have Firefox unchecked in the Update settings, it will ask me to update. Not just on startup, but just any old time. It's gettin' old fast!
The other night I come home from work late. I go to check my email and non-sense...but can't. Internet Explorer starts to crash..a lot. So, I found someone to send me Firefox the next day (I couldn't keep IE open long enough to do anything, half the time it didn't even open before the crash msg came up.) Still FF crashes. I don't know what the problem is..or was, it seems to be doing ok right now, first time I've actually been able to keep my browser open long enough to do something..I'm afraid to close it in case it doesn't work again. So..here are the reports, first the IE and then the FF.

Its late here so I'm gonna make this brief, my windows update keeps trying to install the same update over and over and over again. At this has been happening my firefox 2 has gone very unstable. I have never any problems with firefox till now. It is an update for xml core services (KB936181), take a look at the screen shot.
i can't stand ie, but lately whenever i need to hear anything it's my only option. no sound works on firefox period. even when i use the add-on that switches firefox to ie in the firefox browser, same problem. i think it might have worked when this computer was new but i could be wrong. and if it did it was only for a very short time.
basically as the subject says, Firefox 2.0.0.9 seems to run really slow on Vista, IE7 and Netscape 9.0RC1 seem to run really fast but for some reason Firefox just lags. I've searched the Internet but not really found much, few of the suggestions suggest netsh interface tcp set global autotuning disabled but that hasn't done much, they say run as an administrator which I do by right-clicking cmd and selecting run as administrator, not sure if I'm doing this right, not really sure how to run my machine as an administrator.
I have just downloaded Kodak Easy share from Kodak's website and each time I click on the kodak setup zip file it trys to intall Fraps instead. This happens on all the setup zip fles I downloaded from Kodaks website. Any ideas on how to fix this problem? Edit got it working now using IE. Still strange though how come it does not work through Firefox.
Yesterday when I tried to open Mozilla Firefox, they showed up some error like crash something, I removed the old, install the new, the problem is still there.
I don't know why, before it ran smooth. I did try to install the old version firefoxe 2.0 but impossible.
I have been reading and posting on this forum for a while now.. probably 2 months? All of a sudden, starting yesterday, when I try to browse here to this forum, IE and Firefox both tell me they can't find this site. If fact, it takes me to a site with a similiar name.. vista64.com with no x. This only happens with this forum and one other and only from home on this computer. I can browse all over the place on the internet without a problem. I have no problem browsing here from work. I have made no changes or updates on the computer within the last 48 hours. I downloaded the latest IE security update from Windows this morning which allowed me here for one session and then went back to telling me the site didn't exist. Windows Defender full scan says all clear, Norton says all clear. I have also cleared my cache on both browsers and cookies as well. The only reason I got here now is because I accessed a cached site on a google search, which sometimes works and sometimes not.
Yesterday Firefox was working fine, I just booted up today though to find the shortcut on the desktop had been replaced by an unknown file icon. Strange...so I went to the program folder to open it from there but the ENTIRE program folder has completely disappeared!
I am the only person to have used this computer and I know I did not delete or move the folder or uninstall the program. What could have caused this? My pc is Virus-free. Is there a way restoring it with all my settings and bookmarks? I'm a bit concerned because IE7x86 hasn't been working for me for some time so I only have IE7x64 working....for now
Anyone know of any problems between Firefox and Vista. Had a laptop for a week with Firefox and had to reformat the laptop back to factory settings. Acer helpdesk said it could have been Firefox. I would have drops in wireless connection and programms freezing which could only be cleared by hard reset.
Also had zone alarm, AVG 8 and Spy bot running on it. Since re format only used McAfee free trial and Internet Explorer and it has been working fine.
I've narrowed down the problem on internet using applications only.. I think For example when I use firefox or IE7(32, 64 and without any plugins) they don't connect to the internet and when I turn them off they crashes. And display the following message somtimes: "The exception unknown software exception (0xc0000005) occured in the XXXXXXXXX location. I've also tried to solve it by using the following ideas, but it's not working at all. I've: used the rapair thinngu that u can use with the Vista dvd
.. scaned with the command: sfg /scannow .. scanned for virus .. defragmened .. turned DEP OFF .. seached the internet used google alot, run over this forum .. unplugged the computer from the internet .. uninstalled resent installed applications .. run windows in failsafe mode, pressing F8 at boot .. but i can ping a connection for example Google, cmd->ping command .. also did a system restore.. still not working
This is really weird, my intenet is working and i know this because i play pc games that require internet (Wow) but neither internet explorer or firefox is working. It is driving me crazy. INFO OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit. I am connecting through netgear router. (although it does not matter because internet is working) I have tried system restore and re-downloading IE and firefiox. No new updates have been made that i know of.
I've been using my new Vista box (64-bit Home Premium) for a few months now and in general I'm OK with it. But something strange has just started to happen. If I click on my Firefox icon, the browser opens normally. For any URL I type in, (if the server is available, of course...), Firefox responds as quickly as the 'net allows. But when I try to start Firefox by clicking on a link in a different place, like a URL imbedded in an email or off a widget, there is about a 30 second delay before the browser comes up.
On my XP machines I have Firefox and foxit reader installed. When I launch a pdf file while in Firefox, foxit reader displays the pdf file as a new tab. I can't seem to get the same thing to work on my Vista machine. I did find a firefox extension called PDF Download but I don't like the advertisement from the supplier. How do I get this to work in Vista without the need for an extension. Foxit does seem to work with IE7 but not with Firefox.
