View 5 RepliesBack in the days when I used XP there was a registry altering utility called xp_balloontips.vbs. Running this useful utility managed to get rid of most of XP's annoying balloon tips that come up on mouse rollover. Does anyone know if there is anything similar for Vista?

I ask because I just installed Nitro PDR Pro 6 x64 and it installed it = in the x85 Programs Directory. There's no way I can even tell if a true = 64 bit program is actually being utilized in my 64 bit OS. I know I'm = being anal but with all the talk of 64 bit vs 32 bit, I started getting = curious. Seems that all the big box stores sell computers mostly with = 64 bit Windows installed but a great majority of the programs are 32 bit = (I know they don't make many).......

I was having problems installing a program (Berlitz German Premier) where the install would just disappear halfway thru the process. A program would not appear under my programs list but when I went to Uninstall an icon for uninstall of the Berlitz software appears for each time I tried to install it. However I get the following error messages (see attached document with screen captures) when I tried to delete it the traditional way.
When I use Windows Install Clean Up utility, the program is nowhere to be found on the list; thus I can't use that program.
Is there any registry cleaners that you would recommend for vista ult. x64. Registry Mechanic only supports the x32?

I've noticed in running my registry cleaner that there are many megabytes of multiple program entries under Wow6432Node. Is it possible to disable this in the registry through i.e. using autorun from sysinternals:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREWow6432NodeMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun] ?
I remember reading somewhere this was important for the operation of Vista but in another post from Woody Leonhard in his column, "Windows Secrets", as stated below it can be disabled as it's unneeded: ...
Vista Home Premium 64-bit Since I started using a registry cleaner program (Advanced SystemCare Professional), I've noticed that every once in a while the system will go through two startups. The first startup begins normally, but then after the Welcome screen there's a pause of several seconds. Then a window pops up in the upper left corner of my screen that says "setting up personalized settings" followed by "msiexec /fuo {product ID} /qn". There's a second window that appears right after that but it disappears before I can read it. The system then goes through what appears to be a normal shutdown, and then immediately restarts a second time, and from that point on everything seems fine.
This doesn't happen at every startup. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with Advanced SystemCare, but I can't pinpoint the cause. The anomaly disappears if I disable all of ASC's automated functions. It's not a critical problem, but it has aroused my curiosity. I'd welcome any insights anyone can offer.
I am trying to install AR2007 on my Vista PC. Installs fine, full installation. When i try to start the program I get error "your registry settings for this application were not copied correctly. Run Setup from the location where you orinally installed it" I have done this but still get the same error message, and cannot start the program
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhat is the best way to go from Vista back to XP? Can I use an upgrade disk or must I purchase the full version for $270? The super-secret DRM file indiv02_64.key once again is crashing Media Center and everything else. I cannot watch TV, watch a DVD, or even watch Netflix online. I know from a previous encounter with MS support that I must wipe out the computer and reinstall. The only DRM content I watch is cable TV, Netflix online and DVDs from Netflix. How can this OS possibly be this fragile? I won't go into what an adventure it was to get Bluetooth to work.
The last time DRM crashed (4 months ago) I had to call MS support, pay $60 and spend 6 hours on the phone just to get a CD key for Vista Ultimate since a total reinstall apparently is the only option. I had done Upgrade Anytime and hence had no key - I instead had a license file which could not be accessed since the desktop was deactivated since I had no CD key. Said my support call charge would be refunded but of course that was a lie. Between the original purchase, upgrade purchase, support call to MS, and now possibly a full-version purchase of XP this will cost me close to $1,000. If MS products fail to function properly, I must pay more money to MS. That's getting old fast.
What is the maximum size that can be installed on a computer with Vista 32-bit ? I had to partition my 1.0 TB drive before it was recognized by Vista. I will gladly delete that second partition if the whole HDD can be used with a single enlarged partition

WARNING: only for advanced users who like to clean the registry. Quicksys regcleaner normally $25 free - only 4hrs left from here: http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/
Win 7 compatible - have used this and deleted all 1200 entries it found. It makes a backup - been running for several hours and reboots with no probs. Also working fine so far on my Vista x64 and Win 7 x86 installs. After cleaning you need to shut the app. and reopen it for it to find it's backups. (Easy to find them by hand - it can compress them to.7z files, too ). Have used their regdefrag a lot - identical scans and results to the Auslogics and Glary versions- so use whichever defragger you already have. WARNING: not recommended to defrag registry across drives.
Currently using Vista 64 Home Premimum. Can anyone recommend a good registry cleaner? I tried PCTOOLS and it promptly wrecked my registry.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am using this program to clean up my registry and it seems to work fine except the errors keep coming back. I can do a scan, clean up all the errors and then shut down and start up and I have a new 20 registry error list and most or all of the errors relate to "bad path for the value" and its windows files that seem to be at fault. I don't understand why Microsoft operating system would create registry errors on a startup, before anything has been installed etc. is RegistryBooster misleading me or what. I am running win7 but it did the same thing on vista home premium so I think the question is valid for this group.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI want to buy a new graphics card as I feel the 8800GT is 'weak' now. I want to play games on much higher settings and higher resolutions. This involves buying a more powerful graphics card. Now my question is how do I know / what graphics cards are compatible with my system. Is compatibility motherboard dependent? I know that the Dell PC I have does not have an SLI motherboard, so can it run any GPU? Also I don't know what power supply the PC has. But if it can power an 8800GT it should be okay in powering other cards right? Also do you have any recommendations as to what I should get. Price should be below £160 / 181 EUROS / $261.

However it won't run and I'm being informed "You must be an administrator running a console session in order to use the sfc utility". I am the only person that uses my PC and my profile has full administration. how I might be able to successfully backup my files?
Right contstantly the computer is usting between 80 and 85 % without me doing anything, except typing here. Diskeeper 2008, Outlook consume alot of memory, Search Index, Svchost (some 10 different system programs), etc. So i need more Ram. But at the same time i was thinking of buying "Boostspeed" or a program like that to clear memory, so a shutdown is not needed every day. Anyone familiar with this kind of program?

I play alot of BF2 mods, RTS (currently playing world in conflict), Crysis and COD4. My worries are drivers and game patches. I would like to go Vista 64, but is 64 good for games? I know I will get hit with frame rate, but hopefully playable frame rate.
View 9 Replies View RelatedThis is how it went.
1. Had to do windows update three times before it got them all. I had just done the other day the updates for march. The first update had 8 updates in it. Update number two had one update in it. Update number three had one update in it.
2. Had to do the WGA and did pass.
3. Then the SP1 update showed up in the Window Updates and started the download. Size was about 175.mb.
4. Had to reboot after the install. During windows shut down it stop to do some more installing of the SP1 update. It has 3 stages.
A. Stage one went somewhat fast.
B. Stage two went real slow up to about 12% then went fast and stop and stalled at 100% for some time.
C. Never seen Stage three.
5. Os rebooted and during the restart of windows just before the desktop shows up it started installing Stage three and went somewhat fast. After the desktop came on they was a lot of hard drive activity.
6. The first thing that I seen is that AVG did not restart. I just started it my self and all was good.
Things I seen after install and reboot.
I now have this icon in the lower right about some Customer Experience program that want's to run but you have to say yes to turn it on.
Under the Device manager I now have an error under Built-in-Infrared Device. ( No big deal)
Under the Task manager my Processes came back up to 54 and memory is running at 50% up from what I had it dwon to, 41 processes running & Physical Memory is 33% so it looks as if it went back in and turned some things back on or added some things.
I will have to google all the processes to find what is what.
So far this is all I have seen but then have not been running the SP1 but just a few. I will post as I find more things good or bad. I figure it will take a few reboots and some system maintenance to get the boot back up to par.
I saw the demo video and it looks like just an interface that assists "computer newbies" to work internet related items. Does it offer anything unique? Is it worth installing? Because I remeber it used to put a lot of background tasks that do all sorts of things. I know computers are more powerful nowadays but does it still noticably clog up your task manager?
