I Want A New GPU...But Whats Compatible With My System?, Higher Settings And Higher Resolutions
Aug 28, 2009
I want to buy a new graphics card as I feel the 8800GT is 'weak' now. I want to play games on much higher settings and higher resolutions. This involves buying a more powerful graphics card. Now my question is how do I know / what graphics cards are compatible with my system. Is compatibility motherboard dependent? I know that the Dell PC I have does not have an SLI motherboard, so can it run any GPU? Also I don't know what power supply the PC has. But if it can power an 8800GT it should be okay in powering other cards right? Also do you have any recommendations as to what I should get. Price should be below £160 / 181 EUROS / $261.
is it better to use a higher multipilier or higher fbs. i can get my e8400 to goto 7 x 533 (3731) or 8 x 475 (3800) or 9 x 425 (3800) all stable with the vcore and memory listed below.
multipilier fbs core speed vcore memory ( 1:1 ) temps
7 x 533 = 3731 1.28 5,5,5,15 39/58 8 x 475 = 3800 1.36 5.5.5.15 39/60 9 x 425 = 3825 1.36 5,5,5,15 39/60
I got a problem with my resolution, I cant choose higher than 1024x768. I have uninstalled/reinstalled, cleaned all drivers both for my screen and video card, nothing works. When I have uninstalled my grapich card i can choose higher res, but when I reinstall it, it will set back to 1024x768. I have looked all over but cant find anyone with the same problem..........
I'm running Vista Ultimate 64-bit. I have a 24" LG Flatron L246WP-BN HD widescreen monitor and an integrated Radeon HD 3300 GPU on my ASUS M3A78-T mobo. After buying the monitor I realized it wouldn't work properly with my old system so I built a completely new one. (Check out my full system specs.) The monitor's native resolution is 1920 x 1200.
The problem I'm having is that I can't set the resolution higher than 1280 x 720. If I do I lose almost one-half of my screen (everything shifts to the left so I can't even see my Start button, etc.). Am I doing something wrong? What good is it having a widescreen 24" 1920 x 1200 HD monitor if I lose half the screen by setting it to it's native resolution?
I bought a GeForce GTX260 and so far it's amazing. But I've been told that the resolution on the computer is based on the graphics card. The highest mine goes to is 1440x900. I've seen some go 1900xsome number. Is it possible to get my resolution higher or does my graphics card not allow that?
I'm having some problem with my audio. I have 2 regular speakers. I just bought a new computer (Vista Home Premium installed) and using the same 2 speakers that I had on XP.
Default setting is at 2.1. (I understand that means you have 3 speakers but I only have 2) and there's no setting for "Stereo". And the problem is that the audio doesn't go higher than 50 and the volume is VERY low. I tried so many different forums and couldn't find any results.
I've been reading around for quite a while now, looking for an answer to my problem with no luck in sight (so far). I've recently upgraded to Vista using a dual boot setup with XP. I have a 42" Sharp Aquous (1080p) display through DVI-HDMI. In Windows XP, using the default "Plug and Play Monitor" driver, I'm able to use 75Hz or 85Hz at 1920x1080 (which the monitor does support). In Vista however, with the "generic pnp monitor" driver, it won't allow anything other than 60Hz, regardless of the 'hide modes' check box. Now, some people would say that 60Hz should be fine for an LCD monitor, but here's the problem. With 60Hz, for some reason, the actual screen display size is somewhat smaller than the actual screen size (about a 1-1/2" border all around) which was the case in XP as well (issue with the sharp display i suppose). In 30Hz, the display size is perfect (just as in 75 or 85Hz), but at 30 it becomes very blurry and terrible with any motion on the screen. So basically, I can only use this monitor at either 75 or 85Hz.
This has to be a Vista OS problem (and not at fault by the ATI display drivers). I've read that some people have had similar problems with their CRT monitors as well. Some have suggested using refresh rate forcing programs, but since they were all made for XP, none of them work in vista (I've tried reforce, refreshlock, pstrip and reschange). how to remove the 60Hz cap, or make a custom monitor driver that will allow it?
Not sure why but when I try to open system restore I get this message: "System Protection Settings has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." I cannot make or restore my computer. If I go into system protection I get this error: C:WindowsSystem32SYSDM.CPL is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.
i wanted to buy a new HDD for my laptop. but i wanted to know if it will be compatible with my system. i want to get a 320GB HDD @7200rpm ,Specs: HP pavilion entertainment pc DV4-1220us,AMD 2.1ghz turion X2,ATi radeon HD3200,4gb ram,250 HDD @5400rpm,i want to know if the motherboard will support a larger and faster HDD.
I am finally looking at upgrading to Vista Home Premium since I've heard the reviews of the SP1 fixes. I'm determining if I should get 32-bit or 64-bit. Can anyone tell me if my system and programs will be compatible?
I have two identical Syncmaster 205BW Monitors running on my 9800GX2 card. I want to run at 1400 x 1050 as that looks the best and font size.
BUT monitor 1. has a top available resolution of 1400 x 1050 at highest 32 Bit (slider is hard to the right). This is the Main Monitor. Monitor 2 does NOT have 1400 x 1050 available and I have to run it at 1440 x 900 and there are more available higher settings right thru to 1680 x 1050.
Note when these same two monitors were connected to my previous 8800GTX on a Vista 32 bit system, they both ran fine at 1400 x 1050.
I have latest monitor inf from Samsung.
I note that in Control Panel/Personalize/Display settings, there is a ghost 3rd small monitor icon showing as 'Default Monitor' and it is greyed out. Not sure how to remove this or if it has any bearing?
I have been looking thru all the major guides on the web on how to enable widescreen resolutions and nothing seems to work. I've tried altering the DoomConfig.cfg and added the AutoExec.cfg file and everything that they says works but they don't. I can't even switch it from 640x480 to 1280x1024 using the ingame options it just keeps being set to 640x480.
Without a doubt the worst windows version ever made! Microsoft were finally on track with windows XP pro but they had to go and screw it up by bringing us vista! Nothing works, nothing is compatible every program supposedly compatible seizes or shuts down! It is constantly vulnerable to viruses! There's no end to the complaints I have about this crappy version of windows! Wake up microsoft because you're just soft now and nothing micro about it!
What is the best way to go from Vista back to XP? Can I use an upgrade disk or must I purchase the full version for $270? The super-secret DRM file indiv02_64.key once again is crashing Media Center and everything else. I cannot watch TV, watch a DVD, or even watch Netflix online. I know from a previous encounter with MS support that I must wipe out the computer and reinstall. The only DRM content I watch is cable TV, Netflix online and DVDs from Netflix. How can this OS possibly be this fragile? I won't go into what an adventure it was to get Bluetooth to work.
The last time DRM crashed (4 months ago) I had to call MS support, pay $60 and spend 6 hours on the phone just to get a CD key for Vista Ultimate since a total reinstall apparently is the only option. I had done Upgrade Anytime and hence had no key - I instead had a license file which could not be accessed since the desktop was deactivated since I had no CD key. Said my support call charge would be refunded but of course that was a lie. Between the original purchase, upgrade purchase, support call to MS, and now possibly a full-version purchase of XP this will cost me close to $1,000. If MS products fail to function properly, I must pay more money to MS. That's getting old fast.
What is the maximum size that can be installed on a computer with Vista 32-bit ? I had to partition my 1.0 TB drive before it was recognized by Vista. I will gladly delete that second partition if the whole HDD can be used with a single enlarged partition
do think its all bloatware do you think its a conspericy? do you think you can only get through email/download. post your thoughts and feelings on protection and its limits.
I have built my self a high spec system but I am concerned that all is not set up correctly. what is the best way of putting my system through its paces and seeing all is working correctly?? I only got 4600 points on pcmark vantage
I have an operating system stored on a hidden drive (not on a CD, it comes with the computer) on my notebook and wish to install it. During the boot process, you are supposed to press a key on your keyboard to start the installation. The problem is, I can't remember it!
What is the average temprature?? the reason for asking i was thinking of over clocking it a bit with Rivatuner but i dont have much fans only the PSU one case fan holes thats in the case alot a CPU Fan and of course the fan thats on the card right now according to speed fan it always runs at 43c-45c most of the time idk how to check whiles playing games but yeah
I have a problem with the security settings in IE7. Everytime I reboot my settings change and I have to restore them. I have the settings set in custom level to allow programmatic clipboard access but it disables that and some other settings after a reboot. what I can do to make my settings stick?
I have just upgraded to Vista 64x SP1 and am having difficulties with Crysis / Crysis Warhead. My specific problem is that it is not allowing me to select resolutions higher than 1280. When I was running it on XP Pro 32 bit it was running at 1920 by 1080, and allowed me to select up to this resolution and all lower options.
I am particularly confused because: Far Cry 2 runs in 1920 * 1080 without problems My desktop is set at 1920 * 1080 I have tried creating a autoexec.cfg file in the game directories forcing the width and height without success I have reinstalled the latest vista 64x CCC and drivers I have tried reinstalling both games completely without success thewre is no scroll bar on the right in the resolution options which I have forgot to use I upgraded to a 64x system specifically for Crysis / CW as I understood it would improve performance and I wanted to see the DX10 effect - needless to say I am very frustrated as a result!
A new laptop comes with 4GB ram and I am given the option to select either Vista 32 bit or Vista 64bit OS. Is it recommended to go for 64bit vista to use tat extra 800mb ram or i should stick with 32bit vista for better compatibility?
I am trying to find an external hard disk drive that is fully compatible with Vista x64.
I purchased a Western Digital My Book Premium II drive and it doesn't work properly even though their web site states that is Vista compatible. I contacted them and they fairly ridiculed me for assuming that that meant it would be compatible with 64-bit Vista. I can still use the drive to actually copy files to but there is no 64-bit driver so the bundled software doesn't work and Vista keeps telling me that it needs to install a driver for this device.
I contacted Seagate about their FreeAgent Pro product and they claim it should work even though there is also no 64-bit driver for it. I don't trust that statement after my experience with the WD drive.
I just gave away my Dell printer because it was incompatible with Windows Vista, and i need a new printer ASAP. Please let me know which printers ($210.00 max) might be Vista-compatible. Specifically, I am searching for an all-in-one with scanning and perhaps duplex.
I just downloaded Men of War and I go to install it but it says it's not compatible. I go to compatibility mode and that doesn't work either. Turns out it's only compatible with xp sp3 and vista 32 bit. But I have read posts of people saying they are playing on vista x64, but they don't say how.
When I use the 64-bit IE it periodically asks if it can install flash. I go to do it and the adobe says they don't have flash compatible with 64-bit IE. Has anyone found a way around? I really want to use IE64 with a flash player. Adobe can't be the only game in town...i found an alternate pdf viewer called FoxitReader.
