Reseting Vista Became Not Activated
Feb 28, 2009i have dual boot of vista&windows 7 on the same HDD but in different partitions. i've tries to install SP2 for vista and after reseting vista became not activated. so i did a system restore and i have now vista SP1 but also not activated. i had activate vista once before i installed windows 7, but now when i try to activate vista again it seems that something is going wrong in the bcd. i cant boot into either vista nor windows 7.
when i look at the bcdedit in the repair of vista, i see that the device partition and osdevice partition exchanged. the vista partition is now 7 and the opposite. i fixed it but the vista is still not activated. i've tried many vista activators..
2 Identical Monitors And Different Resolutions
Jul 28, 2008I have two identical Syncmaster 205BW Monitors running on my 9800GX2 card. I want to run at 1400 x 1050 as that looks the best and font size.
BUT monitor 1. has a top available resolution of 1400 x 1050 at highest 32 Bit (slider is hard to the right). This is the Main Monitor.
Monitor 2 does NOT have 1400 x 1050 available and I have to run it at 1440 x 900 and there are more available higher settings right thru to 1680 x 1050.
Note when these same two monitors were connected to my previous 8800GTX on a Vista 32 bit system, they both ran fine at 1400 x 1050.
I have latest monitor inf from Samsung.
I note that in Control Panel/Personalize/Display settings, there is a ghost 3rd small monitor icon showing as 'Default Monitor' and it is greyed out. Not sure how to remove this or if it has any bearing?
How To Enable Widescreen Resolutions For Doom3
Apr 3, 2009I have been looking thru all the major guides on the web on how to enable widescreen resolutions and nothing seems to work. I've tried altering the DoomConfig.cfg and added the AutoExec.cfg file and everything that they says works but they don't. I can't even switch it from 640x480 to 1280x1024 using the ingame options it just keeps being set to 640x480.

Aug 28, 2009I want to buy a new graphics card as I feel the 8800GT is 'weak' now. I want to play games on much higher settings and higher resolutions. This involves buying a more powerful graphics card. Now my question is how do I know / what graphics cards are compatible with my system. Is compatibility motherboard dependent? I know that the Dell PC I have does not have an SLI motherboard, so can it run any GPU? Also I don't know what power supply the PC has. But if it can power an 8800GT it should be okay in powering other cards right? Also do you have any recommendations as to what I should get. Price should be below £160 / 181 EUROS / $261.

Feb 10, 2009I have just upgraded to Vista 64x SP1 and am having difficulties with Crysis / Crysis Warhead. My specific problem is that it is not allowing me to select resolutions higher than 1280. When I was running it on XP Pro 32 bit it was running at 1920 by 1080, and allowed me to select up to this resolution and all lower options.
I am particularly confused because: Far Cry 2 runs in 1920 * 1080 without problems My desktop is set at 1920 * 1080 I have tried creating a autoexec.cfg file in the game directories forcing the width and height without success I have reinstalled the latest vista 64x CCC and drivers I have tried reinstalling both games completely without success thewre is no scroll bar on the right in the resolution options which I have forgot to use I upgraded to a 64x system specifically for Crysis / CW as I understood it would improve performance and I wanted to see the DX10 effect - needless to say I am very frustrated as a result!
Default Programs
Mar 11, 2010I had a virus a couple of weeks ago and had it removed, but since the removal my computer won't open up any programs without going through default programs. If I click an icon on my desktop default programs pops up and I have to find the right program to open the programs with. I was reading some other posts and saw one that suggested that I download PC Medkit, I did it and it did not work. So now I'm out $40 and my computer still isn't functioning properly. Any suggestions would be extremely helpful.

Today I open a document and went to print it. My default was on an Ebson printer but this morning the default had changed all by itself to, get this, a copy of on of my HP printers. Jun 17, 2008I've been fiddling with this for more than an hour now and it's driving me nuts. After I installed Vista, I quicky set up WMP cause I wanted to listen to some music. Then a few days later I got around to installing my fav audio and video player (Foobar and KMPlayer). Both work but Vista won't let them open files by default. I tried setting them both as the default program for their respective extensions via in program preferences, but no go. Neither are listed under "Set your default programs". I tried disassociating WMP, but all the boxes under "Set your default programs" are greyed out and I can't change them. I CAN manually set each program (Foobar and KMPlayer) the default choice by right clicking a file -> Open with -> Always use this program.
This way, Vista opens that file with the program chosen every time, the icon changes plus, under "Set your default programs" -> "Windows Media Player" that extension that I changed no longer has a tick next to it. Also, the the empty box is now editable, meaning I can switch the asscociation back to WMP if I want. All other boxes are still greyed out. Both programs can also be chosen manualy for each individual file via Open with. But none of this is a solution. I want WMP to release it's hold on all of its asscociations. So does anyone know, how to disable all asscociations held by WMP so some other program can grab them? I've been at it now for like forever and I'm kinda fed up with it. If anyone needs any additional info, just ask.

Oct 14, 2008It use to be when I would open something it would put icons on the task bar on the right hand side. It would only show two at a time and you could Click the arrow to scroll through. All of a sudden it stopped doing that and it adds them on the left and shows all the programs. Any ideas how to get it back?

Mar 28, 2009I got a new system (AMD Athlon Dual Core, 3GHz, Vista Home Premium, 500GB SATA HDD), installed a new SATA drive (250GB), and installed WinXP on the new drive (I undid all the cable to the Vista drive first). Now, I can boot off Vista or XP, but the default system is XP. I have to go to the Boot menu to bring Vista up. Is there a way to set the Vista drive as the default drive? Can I simply switch the drive cables? The jumpers no longer do Master/Slave, so I'm not sure on this. (BTW, when I boot up in Vista, and use a boot up controller program like Easy BCD, it does not show XP as a boot option).
