What is the simplest way to have Open Office open any type of Microsoft Office file?
My Office trial is over and I'm too cheap to pay for it.
I tried using the Default selector, but I was wondering if there was a method quicker than going through each extension one by one.
I use Home premium x64.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I boot up in the morning, I have to wait 20 to 30 mins before Outlook 07 will connect to my Exchange 2003 server. Until then, when I try to open Outlook it says, cannot open the default e-mail folders. And it suggests there is a network issue or that the Exchange server is down. These are not the case. The Exchange server is up and there are no network issues. I have many other computers attached to the network and none of them have this issue. Some our XP Pro/Office 07, some are XP Pro/Office 2003. The big difference with my machine is that it is Vista.
After about 20 to 30 minutes, wow! it connects! And then it's good for the rest of the day. I usually only minimize Outlook after I actually get it open so the connection is maintained throughout the day. I'm not sure what would happen if I closed it completely. But one thing is for sure, every morning, it takes 20 to 30 minutes before it will connect. Eventually, it always connects.
Mac and Linux and is free. It handles graphics in multipage documents better than MS Office. It can read and write many formats including its own Open format as well as all version of MS Office except the newest. Few business users save in that new Office format because it is NOT compatible with other versions of MS Office. You can download and try is for free and it does NOT have any of that stupid copy protection. And it is more secure. And you never have to pay for all future upgrades.

Vista Business plus Office 2007 sometimes causes problems - particularly with Search/Replace - that MS cannot resolve. A friend uses Open Office on his XP machine for certain functions that create difficulties with MSOffice. Documents apparently move back and forth easily, retaining formatting. Have readers here had success with Open Office on Vista?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI inadvertently said I was using an exchange server and now I am trapped in a never-ending cycle of error messages that will not let me change the server settings to the appropriate pop server. In XP you can go to: Control Panel/Mail/Email Accounts/View or Change Existing accounts, but this option doesn't seem to exist in Vista. Here are the messages I get and the outcomes, I've also attached a couple of screen shots. "The connection to Microsoft Exchange is Unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action." At the same time a smaller window is open that says "Configuring Outlook Accounts" The only options presented are to click "X" or "OK" to close the window, once this is done the Microsoft Exchange Window opens with the incorrect server name and account name that I typed in originally. If I try to delete them and click "apply" or "ok" or simply click "X" the following window message appears from Microsoft Outlook:
"Cannot open your default email folders. The file C:/Users/HP/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Outlook/Outlook.ost is not an offline folder file." The options at this point are to click "X" or "Ok" once done the program closes. I have tried uninstalling Office and re-installing, but the Microsoft Exchange Server still remains. I am connected to the internet, all I want to do is change from Exchange Server to pop and supply the necessary pop and smtp information to set-up my email properly. I have been pouring over this for the better part of the day and what's worse is this is for my work email. I am in a remote office, on a laptop, without an IT guy at the moment.
Any one have any issues with part of the words on the left hand side of the screen missing when microsoft office outlook is open? It's really wierd, sometimes the whole word is there and somtimes like the last one or two letters are mising but nothing that seems regular from day to day. Like on the name "Sent Items" sometimes it just says "Sent Iten"

When clicking the same program from the start menu -> program folder, it will run. What could be? I am not using the classic menu. 1)I can no longer open MS office attachments such as .doc or excel in Windows Mail
2) Many images on websites are no longer viewable, just show as a box with a red x. I click on the "compatability" button, but that doesnt work with either. I tried unclicking the dont allow attachments button, didnt work.
My system restore fails every time I attempt it. This has happened the last 3 times I had a need to attempt restore. (Three attempts separated by months in time, about different issues.) This time, I am thinking something may be wrong with my system restore function.
In this case, it is simply a matter of trying to roll back a browser update.
I saw a whole list of available restore points, and I went to the second one back - from only a few days ago. The restore failed.
I am using Windows Vista Home Premium, OEM from Gateway Laptop about 1.5 yrs old. I allow most updates.
When I right click a drive on my Vista..it shows explore as the default option and is highlighted than the open....I check for trojans and viru but none were found.

Today I installed a full version of Microsoft Office 2007, without removing any of the other two versions from my computer. I realized that it seemed to automatically remove the older version. I`m not bother about it not being there, as I got the new version, but I wonder if this is an automatic uninstalling that Office does, or if the version is still there but I can`t see it, as I would like to remove it properly if it`s still somewhere in my computer.
I checked in Control Panel & the only thing I can see is "Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007", the full version I just installed, & everything that come with it. No 2003 anywhere.
I know you can do this document-by-document by opening each document individually and clicking "Upgrade" or whatever, but is there a way to convert all your Office documents at once?
View 4 Replies View RelatedHaving changed my default browser, the .html and .htm file associations had been set to "unknown". Don't ask me why. Trying to set them via the usual mechanisms: "open with" or "file associations" menus does not work because they are populated only with MS programs. All attempts to select other programs via "browse" option fail. I can select the program but it is simply ignored and no change to the file associations happens. Nor is the selected program added to the list of programs available for selection. As there is no option provided for typing in the full path, as used to be the case with earlier and better operating systems, and the "browse" option does not work, I am totally stuck.
Is this a new MS policy to prevent users from running non-MS programs?? Whatever it is, it is very frustrating and affects all programs and extensions, not just the .html of the above example. Another very annoying thing is that even when I manage to run some non-MS programs manually, they will only work if run in "admin mode", as they are prevented from writing to disk. Are users not supposed to be allowed to write to our own disks anymore????

Every time I open Windows Mail up, or the news groups, I get a message saying Windows mail isn't my default mail program, and asks if I want it to be. I click yes every time, but I will still get this message when I open Windows Mail again the next day. Everything's works OK after I click this message. No other errors or anything.

View 9 Replies View RelatedOutlook 2007 installed,and working fine. I needed to open winmail and found that it did not open. Found it running in taskman, but there is no winmail program window available.
I have tried:
1)delete winmail reg entries
2)delete winmail storage folders
3)rename winmail.exe file....
None of the above worked. Specifically, the results of points above:
1)started winmail after deleting reg entries,just remade them,is all.
2)ditto for point 2
3)nothing happens when double click renamed winmail.exe...
I dont want to use another program. I needed to visually advise someone about adding signatures,but winmail did not start. Yes I could do an internet search, but that is not the point-winmail is broken somehow and I wish to fix it.
I like the thought of a new 64 bit OS system for the speed. I am thinking about buying a whole new setup! Does MS Office run 64 bit? If only 32 bit, does the 64 bit OS speed it up?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI use two tables: "Authors" and "Books" (Authors being a list of authors and then the books they have written; and Books, well, just being the list of books by all the authors) {see Books1}. Whenever I entered a new entry, it always went to the bottom of the author I selected(which I want because it is done in the order I read them in) {again see Books1}. However, now whenever I enter a new entry it goes to the top (which is annoying).
Just as a random example, say that the first 4 books are in order that I read them in (normally chronologically). Then, I add the 5th book and it goes to the top! So now it will be in the order: 5, 1, 2, 3, 4 {see Books2}. I do not know how or why this has begun to happen. What I want to do is have them in the order in which I entered them (by entered date or whatever). Sorry if it is a bit confusing! I'm no expert and I'm unsure of the "official" or "proper" termonology when it comes to Office Access!
I'm wondering if any version of Office 2007 will run under my OS or do I need a specific edition?
