I have a problem with microsoft office programs that will not open in the vista start menu? When clicking on a program from the start menu, won't run. When clicking the same program from the start menu -> program folder, it will run. What could be? I am not using the classic menu. I have tried to re-pin them,but still they will not open??, all other programs are ok.

The reason: the file doesn't open properly as is, IOW a calendar shows up in sections of four and incomplete as such.
Office 07 shortcuts from the start menu no longer work. Nothing happens when you click on them - the start menu stays open. Also, the icons of the shortcuts have turned into just a paper icon.
I should also note that even the icons on the documents have changed. Though, when I double click on documents, they still open the corresponding program. Another way I can open the programs is by going into the Program Files. I have searched with Google with only a handful of people having my problem, though their thread isn't answered.
Just noticed that there are no programs listed when I press the Start Button, they only show up when I click on All Programs. It was fine earlier.Havent installed anything.

It's really wierd, sometimes the whole word is there and somtimes like the last one or two letters are mising but nothing that seems regular from day to day. Some programs are accessible (such as iTunes) and some are not (such as Nero ShowTime). When I compare the properties of the Start Menu links for the accessible and the nonaccessible programs, I notice differences: In the Properties windows of the nonaccessible programs, there is no "Compatibility" tab and the "Target field" is grayed out, as are the "Open File Location" and "Change Icon" buttons. I don't get an error message when I click on the non-accessible links, I just get nothing. btw, I can access the programs from the Quick Launch bar or from Windows Explorer, but that is a hassle.

Normally on the Start Menu/All Programs, the Folders are listed first and the individual programs after them. How do I get this order back? I tried going to Start/properties/start menu/customize and click and unclicked the "Sort All Programs...." feature and the order remains the same.

Most of the oem ones are there and i saw the thread to restore those, no biggy there, but the programs that i installed are gone now too, like Office, flight sim x, wow, quickbooks, etc. is there a way i can restore or retrieve those without reinstalling? i dont really want to go and copy shortcuts manually. the Programdatamicro softwindows does not contain Start Menu?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed Photoshop CS3 today on Vista x64 Ultimate and gave it whizz to see if it worked ok - which it did - but i noticed that the start menu headings for the Photoshop programs are highlighted in yellow. Here's a screen grab:
The thing is, when i right-click on the yellow highlights to send the Photoshop icon to my desktop as a shortcut, i get no menu just the Aero mouse cursor rotating for a split-second and then the right-click doesn't work at all nor the shut-down button doesn't work! Now, i got the program off a mate who assured me it was from an original disc, but now i'm not too sure as it has all the hallmarks of a copy with a dodgy attachment - and no, i didn't see the disc in question as i just transfered the data from a folder on his drive onto a USB pen.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWell I was in the registry editor trying to clean up my context menu a little, and as a result I nolonger have "open" in the context menu for audio and video files only. This means double clicking doesn't open the file. I can however go to "open with" and open it that way.
View 9 Replies View RelatedIm really starting to hate the start menu. If I try to open my personal folder from the start menu, all i get is a white flash and the nothing. If i try to explore it, an all white window opens up with just Desktop as the address. I even tried to go to my documents and access my personal folder by clicking on it in the address but that does nothing.
The only way to get into it is by going to my computer, users, then accessing it from there. If i drag that folder to my start menu and add it to the top (where your internet browser is) it doesnt work. Although I can add a shortcut to it on the desktop and place that in the start menu, which makes having it in the start menu null anyways since the shortcut is on the desktop.
This has been really frustrating, I was able to somewhat fix the problem by placing my users folder in the start menu but I don't really like that as a fix and was wondering if anybody had a real solution to the problem instead.
For some reason, In my start menu programs list, i have the programs folder in it with all the other programs in it aswell.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have Vista, DSL, and a laptop. If I open Mobility Center with the Start menu there is no "connection tile" there. So in order to connect I have to right-click the taskbar icon, click on "connect to network" in the bubble, go to "Wireless" where I get the error that the "network cannot be found". I have to go through diagnose, repair, and resolution process, then the connection opens. I am currently connected (now using pc for this) and when I just now went to mobility center through the start menu the connection tile was there again -- but when I need it to connect it is never there.
I am confused and new to broadband. When the techie set it up it worked straightforward so I haven't a clue what happened to mess it up. I am not even sure when the connection tile is/isn't supposed to appear in mobility center. I would like to configure it as it should be, so it will connect automatically at bootup when at home, and have the ability to switch the automatic connection on/off when I go out in public. I am savvy enough to fix it if told what I need to do.
This morning, I started my computer, logged on and went on the Start Menu to access Microsoft Office programs. But when I went on the 'All Programs' menu, there were no programs listed! I really mean NO PROGRAMS AT ALL. This includes Microsoft Office folder and every other software and program i have got!.

As I stated in some other post I got MS Office 97 Pro installed just fine and everything's working with no major problems; don't even have to use any compatability mode on Access, Excel and Binder (Powerpoint, Outlook are not installed) but must use WIN2000 compatability mode for Word or I can't use the Tools/Envelopes and Labels feature (popup-something about incorrect parameter). The problem I have is with printing in Word.
I can print just fine from the print icon on the toolbar in both regular view or print preview but when I try to use Print from within the File menu I get an error message like the one shown below. All other printing from any of those mentioned programs works just fine. I've been at this for some time now; uninstalled through Vista and MS Office Add/Remove and by also removing any readily identifiable instances of MS Office, reinstalled as an Administrator and not, in addition to using different compatability modes and the Print "problem" in Word persists.
Tab feature in web browsers like Firefox and IE 7 has definitely improved our efficiency as windows can be toggled much easier and faster within the same windows via tabs. Have you ever thought to have such a great feature in Microsoft Office as well? Now there is a nifty add-on, named as OfficeTab that is able to add tab feature in Microsoft Word, Excel & Powerpoint.

When i click on setup, the user account control window appears asking for permission to setup, I press continue and then the setup window appears but then immediately closes. It doesn't even begin to install, I've tried running it running it as administrator, i've tried deleting previously installed applications that may have caused disruption and i've even tried installing them whilst in safe mode but nothing seems to work.

I have tried to move this application using a Belkin cable or easy windows transfer. Nothing works. I know you have to have the latest version of MO2003. It seems like all of my programs, excell, PP, access all have different version numbers. I'm not sure what to do.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI had issues last November with what I suspected was a problem with updates for Office 2007 from Microsoft Update. After a Factory Image reinstall and reloading all my software, everything was humming along nicely. Then I discovered that my Office wasn't up to date and went over to MS update to pick up the security updates. I got 20 updates including SP1 for Office.
I have been installing them a few at a time and the last batch included a security update for OneNote 2007 KB950130 and tw security updates for Office KB951944 and KB954326. When I went to restart, the SAME THING HAPPENED AS IN NOVEMBER. Exactly.
The computer rebooted fine till it got to the point where I sign in and then somewhere in between the welcome screen and the desktop loading, it froze solid. The little tone that sounds when the desktop loads went into a stutter and then slowly faded.............
