MS Office 97> Cannot Print From File Menu

Jun 22, 2008

Have checked the posts regarding this subject and googled it extensively but could not find any definitive answers. As I stated in some other post I got MS Office 97 Pro installed just fine and everything's working with no major problems; don't even have to use any compatability mode on Access, Excel and Binder (Powerpoint, Outlook are not installed) but must use WIN2000 compatability mode for Word or I can't use the Tools/Envelopes and Labels feature (popup-something about incorrect parameter). The problem I have is with printing in Word.

I can print just fine from the print icon on the toolbar in both regular view or print preview but when I try to use Print from within the File menu I get an error message like the one shown below. All other printing from any of those mentioned programs works just fine. I've been at this for some time now; uninstalled through Vista and MS Office Add/Remove and by also removing any readily identifiable instances of MS Office, reinstalled as an Administrator and not, in addition to using different compatability modes and the Print "problem" in Word persists.

Cannot Print MS Office Programs With UAC Turned On

Sep 26, 2009

Vista 32 bit system with Dell 948 AIO Printer Prints test page, prints from Internet Explorer. Cannot print anything from a MS Office program (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc). Can print from all programs when disabling User Account Control (UAC). UAC Enabled did not keep me from getting that nasty malware called Personal Antivirus, so what's the use of having UAC enabled?

I have a new HP laptop that came with windows vista home premium, and I cannot get it to print any office XP word documents or PDF files. I am stumped. Microsoft Vista will not print microsoft word documents.

Office 07 Shortcuts In Start Menu No Work

May 2, 2009

Office 07 shortcuts from the start menu no longer work. Nothing happens when you click on them - the start menu stays open. Also, the icons of the shortcuts have turned into just a paper icon.

I should also note that even the icons on the documents have changed. Though, when I double click on documents, they still open the corresponding program. Another way I can open the programs is by going into the Program Files. I have searched with Google with only a handful of people having my problem, though their thread isn't answered.

DOS Command, Print Out As A Word File

Apr 19, 2009

Vista Ultimate - 64 bit. In one of my folders, I have an extensive sub- folder tree which I'd like to print out as a Word file. Here's what I've done:

1. I click Start | Programs | Accessories | Command Prompt
2. Using the CD command, I get to the head folder of the desire sub-folder tree
3. If I then run the command "Tree", the sub-folder tree scrolls by quickly in the desired format - i.e., like a genealogy chart, with lines connecting the various levels.

But if I try to pipe the output to a text or Word file using the command tree>tree.txt or tree>.tree.doc, I get the tree. But the nice lines linking the various levels are replaced by a sequence of bogus characters. The maddening thing is that I was earlier able to get the nice chart into a Word document. But I neglected to record the steps, and can't reproduce them.

Print Web Site Image To Adobe PDF File: Placed In Virtual

Mar 23, 2008

When I try to print a web site image to an Adobe PDF file, Vista states that for security purposes the pdf file will be placed in a "virtual" temporary internet file folder, then opens the virtual folder on C drive, but then doesn't save the file in the folder. I've been able to work around the problem by disabling all user account control security, but there has to be an easier way. I'd like to save files without security forcing them to a
specific folder.

Visa File/Print Sharing Requires Username

Mar 25, 2009

This is regarding a desktop using Vista Home Premium and a laptop using Vista Home Premium. A shared printer is attached to the desktop. I've spent more than a few hours of researching on the internet, including the technet information for Vista file/print sharing. I have enabled file and print sharing without using a password on a private network. I have Xp machines on my home network. I am able to access them with no issues.

My issue is that when I access my Vista Home Premium desktop from the Vista Home Premium laptop (or vice versa), I have to enter a username. Any letter of the alphabet works, a password is not required. My desktop is a dual boot system. The other OS is XP Home. It does not require a username for file/print sharing................

Missing The Old File, Edit, View Menu Bar?

Aug 1, 2005

One of the main concepts of Windows Vista is to make things more simple, basically take some of the complexity out of Windows. The decision was made to do away with the old menu bar in many of the windows of Windows Vista because they simply looked too busy and offered the user too many, often confusing, choices.

This all sounds great but we are power users and most of us like complexity because it gives us more control. Thankfully, Microsoft didn't really do away with it completely, they just hid it. The next time you are using Windows Vista and wish that old menu bar was still around, just hit ALT on your keyboard and it magically appear!

File Menu Open/close Not Working

Aug 25, 2009

Appologies in advance if I'm being too long winded or not providing enough detail (1st post). I'm running Vista Home Premium 32bit (sp2) on an HP Pavillion dv6700 laptop. The issue I'm having is that the "XP style" File menu bar keeps randomly opening up and then closing whenever I have any Office product, IE, or the explorer open. I've never "turned on" this option so no clue why this started to do this a little over a week ago. Initailly I found that it got worse (more frequently opening/closing the menu bar) when I had my external hard drives (EHDs) connected but at this point it's near constant without them connected and it's locking up the programs so that I can't type or click on anything.

I've not installed any new software in months; and the only downloads I've taken/installed were files from trusted sites and several system updates. My 1st impression was either a virus or a system update conflict from either or both HP or Windows; the latter has not been an uncommon issue. My anitvirus is up-to-date & a complete scan turned up nothing, even on my EHDs. I've gone back twice using the restore points; the 2nd time going back over 2 weeks prior to the start of this issue. I'm out of ideas short of doing a complete reinstall from my back-up partition.

File Sharing And Print Does "Public Folders."

May 13, 2008

I have a small LAN with a Vista desktop (called Osiris) and a few XP laptops (one of which is called Snowdancer. Last week I did a "clean" install of Vista on Osiris. Before this clean install I had two way communications between Snowdancer and Osiris. I use Windows Explorer to move files between the two. After the clean install Osiris could still manipulate files on Snowdancer, but the reverse is not happening. BTW, print sharing works and so does "Public Folders." From this I conclude that I do not have a connection issue, right? I do not have a Domain.

My C: drive is "Shared." I log into Snowdancer with my full name Robert Schuldenfrei and a password. I log into Osiris with my nickname Bob and no password. I am an administrator on both systems. I have searched through this NG for similar problems and there are lots of posts. I have come up short with every repair I have looked into, so I must be missing something. Remember, before my clean install I had this working just fine.

My Office 2003 Disappeared After Installing Office 2007

May 15, 2010

Originally, I had Office 2003 installed in my computer, & a trial version of 2007 that had already expired.

Today I installed a full version of Microsoft Office 2007, without removing any of the other two versions from my computer. I realized that it seemed to automatically remove the older version. I`m not bother about it not being there, as I got the new version, but I wonder if this is an automatic uninstalling that Office does, or if the version is still there but I can`t see it, as I would like to remove it properly if it`s still somewhere in my computer.

I checked in Control Panel & the only thing I can see is "Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007", the full version I just installed, & everything that come with it. No 2003 anywhere.

Getting 64-bit PC To Print On A Win/XP

Aug 6, 2009

After trying at least a dozen suggestions without success, I followed this procedure to be able to print on a locally attached printer on a network PC with Win/XP home from another PC on the network that is running Vista Home Premium 64-bit ......

1. Open the Printers folder on the client computer from which you want to print, right-click a blank part of the window, click Run as administrator, click Add Printer.

2. In the Add Printer wizard, click Add a local printer.

3. On the Choose a printer port page, click Create a new port, select Local Port, and then click Next.

4. In the Port Name dialog box, type the network path to the printer to which you want to print. For example \server1printer1 (where server1 is the computer name of the print server and printer1 is the share name for the printer). Then click OK.

Note: Creating a local port instructs the client computer to use its own printer driver to render the printer as a RAW print job and send it directly to the port (which in this case goes to the print server). This obviates the need for the print server to provide feedback to the client, which can work around some authentication issues, as well as issues with mismatched driver versions on the print server and the client computer.

Print From X64 To XP X86

Jul 5, 2008

I have a few pcs networked together. All are running XP x86(using windows firewall) and have a different printer installed on each. I recently added a Vista x64 pc to the mix, it has no printer connect directly to it, and it can access all the other pcs from it(file sharing is good, same workgroup). My problems is that I cannot print from the Vista x64 system to any of the other Xp x86 systems. I have tried installing the 64 bit and 32 bit drivers on the Vista machine - Add printer - Add a network, wireless or bluetooth printer

-(I can see all the printers on the network) I select any and get this error message: The server for the 'HP Deskjet 1280' does not have the proper driver installed. If you want to search for the proper driver, click OK. Otherwise, click cancel cancel and contact your network administrator or original equipment manufacturer for the correct printer driver. - OK - i select the 64 bit drivers and receive this error message: Windows cannot locate a suitable windows driver. Contact your administrator for help locating and installing a suitable driver - when i try the x86 bit driver i get this message : Printer driver setup. Operation could not be completed(error 0x800f0214).
