I have a new HP laptop that came with windows vista home premium, and I cannot get it to print any office XP word documents or PDF files. What is really odd is that it registers the printer, shows the ink available in each cartridge, and the printer will print my emails from comcast. I loaded the newest drivers, updated everything. I am stumped. Microsoft Vista will not print microsoft word documents.

The Desktop has the printer connect via USB and the laptop is connect to network wireless. The laptop can access network shared files and also sees and installs printer. I then print a test page and it works great. However when I try to print any documents they fail to print. I tried intalling the printer on the laptop as a local printer then adding a local port and mapping it to the desktop \desktopprinter but get an access denied error.
View 4 Replies View RelatedVista Ultimate - 64 bit. In one of my folders, I have an extensive sub- folder tree which I'd like to print out as a Word file. Here's what I've done:
1. I click Start | Programs | Accessories | Command Prompt
2. Using the CD command, I get to the head folder of the desire sub-folder tree
3. If I then run the command "Tree", the sub-folder tree scrolls by quickly in the desired format - i.e., like a genealogy chart, with lines connecting the various levels.
But if I try to pipe the output to a text or Word file using the command tree>tree.txt or tree>.tree.doc, I get the tree. But the nice lines linking the various levels are replaced by a sequence of bogus characters. The maddening thing is that I was earlier able to get the nice chart into a Word document. But I neglected to record the steps, and can't reproduce them.

Calibri Body as the default font in word is really boring. i prefer arial black, or bauhaus 93. when i create a text box, i have to keep changing the font to my choice, which wastes time when i am doing my homework!

I have been asked this many times following up on the blog entry Installing Office 2003 and Office 2007 on the same system where once people have removed the problem with the End User Licensing Agreement (EULA) appearing every time they start Office they then get the dialogs below every time they switch between Word 2007 and Word 2003. when starting Word 2003 when starting Word 2007 The fix to the problem is very simple as it turns out - simply run the following commands (by pressing the Windows Key+R or typing it into the Start/Run command box. Use the line with Office11.0 if you have Office 2003 installed and Office12.0 if you have Office 2007 installed. You can use both if you have both installed : reg add HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftOffice11.0WordOptions /v NoReReg /t REG_DWORD /d 1.......
Have checked the posts regarding this subject and googled it extensively but could not find any definitive answers. As I stated in some other post I got MS Office 97 Pro installed just fine and everything's working with no major problems; don't even have to use any compatability mode on Access, Excel and Binder (Powerpoint, Outlook are not installed) but must use WIN2000 compatability mode for Word or I can't use the Tools/Envelopes and Labels feature (popup-something about incorrect parameter). The problem I have is with printing in Word.
I can print just fine from the print icon on the toolbar in both regular view or print preview but when I try to use Print from within the File menu I get an error message like the one shown below. All other printing from any of those mentioned programs works just fine. I've been at this for some time now; uninstalled through Vista and MS Office Add/Remove and by also removing any readily identifiable instances of MS Office, reinstalled as an Administrator and not, in addition to using different compatability modes and the Print "problem" in Word persists.
Vista 32 bit system with Dell 948 AIO Printer Prints test page, prints from Internet Explorer. Cannot print anything from a MS Office program (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc). I am running Windows Vista Home premium 64bit with 8gb ram and an hp c309a printer. My problem is that vista take a long time to print even just a 1 word paper using notepad. Also when i right click the printer in the printer folder it also take time to open the properties, aprox 3 minutes. So if i try to print it takes 3 minutes just to open the tab to click print and to select the printer i wish to use. The c309a is connected by usb cable, and i have tried re-installing the latest drivers and firmware for the printer as well as different usb cables and each of my usb ports. Yet for some reason there is a long 3+ minute pause when trying to print. I have also tried using the network feature and I still have same trouble. Also i have checked to make sure print spooling is on in services. HP has a utility to check for issues for both network and for usb, and the printer passes each test fine. I have done so many full uninstalls and installing of the software as well as the cable changes it is driving me nuts. I have been google'ing for days and days and have had no luck in fixing this issue. One last comment every time i try to print the applications I am using freeze for the 3+ minutes and the window application shows "application not responding", but after 3+ minutes i can finally select the printer and hit print, then at that point it freezes again for about 2 minutes and then prints. I have run multiple virus scans and multiple spyware detection programs and have also run online virus scans using bitdefend and trendmicro as well and i have no virus or spyware. I have also ran "hijackThis" and been told my system appears clean.

This will automatically shut down, saying there was a problem and is shutting down. The other programs seem fine, Excel, powerpoint, etc. I havent a clue what this could be, has anyone else had this problem.
In the top right corner of microsoft word it will say "Finalizing Installation" and then after you type a couple of sentences it will shut down on its own. This is for a friend of mine, who had microsoft office put on when she bought the laptop of a friend, though she does not have the disk. so i wondered if this is an installation problem. Would this be some sort of copy of microsoft office 2003, that was put on for her She has only found this out now as her son needs to use word for school ( vista ultimate, 64 bit, sp2)
The older version I have used for years has a straightforward index list of documents. I use the list option instead of icons. All were logically alphabetical, scrolling across. 2007 Office has the most ridiculous mess I could imagine. It clumps together documents that have alike starting names, putting them side by side in columns, rather than one after the other and uneven at that. To quickly scroll and find what I'm looking for makes me dizzy. Is there any way I can change it to a logical alphabetical list, the way every computer system I've used is done?

As I've been doing computers for decades & health is my priority, not something in "background" I have SUPER healthy environment such as all-black background, silver-colored fonts, no distractions/graphics, brightness at zero, contrast at comfortably low setting which is in hardware + nVidia videodriver, my graphics is 512MB nVidia GeForceMobile. It's too long to explain but everything is as good as it gets.
The bright ideas don't arrive into your head in the office, in bright light while a bunch of people swarm around, you can hear peeing in the toilet, PHONES, etc. I use earplugs 34NRR rating, blue things that far exceed so-called noise reduction headphones (which are a ripoff).
Do you kno whwere bright ideas get born? In a park, woods, the bench, MY CAR - the best, I sit alone in total silence, no cellphones, no dorks of my neighborhood - I just drive out to s State/National Park and that's where I work on complex problems. I need all these PDF's with me. Printing is not an option you obviously understand. One Datasheet for Microchip PIC18F4420 is 421 pages, and I need like a dozen of things of this sort with me.
I have a PC which has XP installed and a new desktop with Visa Home Premium installed. I have put some of my Word files on to the laptop from the PC but it cant read them. Is there a way to get my laptop to read my PC files once I have transferred them or do I have to get XP installed on to my laptop?
View 6 Replies View Relatedsaves all of her documents in her documents folder, she has her signed rental notes, bills, her tax returns amongst other things, and most every file in the documents folder has disappeared. There are a couple files that didn't get deleted, some in her roboform folder (which is linked to her browser which is why I assume it wasn't deleted or, it might've been deleted but re-made when she opened her browser) and a couple other random files.
She hasn't been doing anything different the past couple days and she is not sure when exactly it happened, but she needs the files - and they're all gone. I am not very knowledgeable with Vista but I have checked a few obvious things and none of them seemed to work. What I did try was checking to see if the files were suddenly hidden, but they're not - and the size of the folders is very small (There's about 71 folders and sub folders and of all the files and folders, these 71 folders are all that's left) The documents folder itself is about 1.36 MB (yes, MB.) and I am pretty sure if the files were somewhere in that folder the folder size would bigger, regardless of if the files were hidden or not.
These files are also not in the recycling bin, and I've searched for a couple obvious names via the start menu search on the bottom but they have all brought back nothing. these files are extremely important and we really need to get them back.
My files that I have saved do not show up when I look for them, when i save additional files or resave those files they still dont show up. the files that i have save can't be found any where, even with searching "everywhere" however these file have been saved in the correct location, because when i saved more files, the files that i had saved are there, are shown. I even try making a new folder to save them into. I could create the folders but still NO FILES!

If I try to open a document, say from word or something like that, it'll tell me the file is not there bla bla bla. If I try to click on the link off of the "start" menu it asks me what software I want to use to open it...*blink* I poked around and located a File that is called "Documents" with 0 bytes...is there someway that I turned a Folder into a File? Any ideas of what I can try to restore the documents/file? I did try doing a system restore from a few days ago but it keeps encountering errors...I'm not having much luck on the computer front this week.
View 6 Replies View RelatedAt first I had an apparent common problem: my user profile, which happened to be the admin profile, stopped working and would show error your user profile was not loaded correctly. You have been logged on with a temporary profile yada yada yada yada. Main problem besides the annoyance was I could obviously not find my documents. I called Dell tech support. They found all my valuable WORD documents. We then created a new folder and moved all the valuable files to it. So far so good. Now......Dell tech decides he wants to check for any MS updates. There were 14 updates needed. Downloaded and installed. Same problem with the user profile - but now the WORD documents are GONE. Nowhere. Folder everything gone after the MS updates. Plenty of free C drive space (like only 30% full) and plenty or RAM, so it should not have needed the disk space. Problem is after 4 hours the Dell tech could not recover the files. He found some *.temp files but when machine was shut down those disappeared, too.
Machine is running Vista and has been flawless for 7 months until the problem with the user profile. BTW System Restore will not work. We tried that first thing to try and fix the user profile issue. It returns the message it did not work completly once it brings the desktop back up. It did not work before the Windows update nor after the Windows update. Where did the WORD doc files go after the MS updates? Am I screwed? Any software available or ways to recover these very valuable lost files? I know I know shoulda woulda backed them up. I had three MS Word 2007 docx files on my hard drive. I deleted them and emptied the trash. I immediately used some File Recovery programs to try to recover them. The programs were unable to find them. That seems very strange to me. Is it possibly because they are docx files? This is a relatively new file type by Microsoft, right? I am using MS Word with Vista Home Premium.
I should probably add that the programs cannot find files with the names of the files I deleted. Are the names changed when they are deleted and the Recycle Bin emptied? I have heard that files are not wiped clean from your drive. Only the directories are changes, but the data is still there until it is written over..................

If I copy a file from another PC to my USB memory stick, then open it on my Vista laptop, make some changes and click save I get an error message saying the file is now G:~[134].tmp and is corrupted. I cannot recover the document, and it disappears entirely from the memory stick.If I copy the document directly to my laptop hard drive, I work as a teacher in a small school and 3 of my colleagues have reported the same issue. All use Vista, Word 2003, but different makes of laptop. We have tried using new/different memory sticks but the problem continues. Our XP desktops are unaffected.
how to stop people deleting files unintentionally from my laptop or server at work. I want open access for read and copy only for everyone but i need it to be impossible to overwrite or delete these files. I can give a read only tag ok but can't seem to set a higher security for deletions without running password blocks etc. Are passwords the only method of avoiding deletions?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have installed Works Suite 2006 in my Vista Home Premium computer. Everything works fine apart from Word 2002. I am unable to open Word by clicking on document files. If I double click on a document file in Explorer nothing happens. If I right click and select Open With, and then click on wordicon, nothing happens. I am also unable to launch Word from the Works Suite program launcher. I can open Word, no problem, and it appears to work fine, but to edit a document I have to search for it from within Word, which is often inconvient. I have un-installed the suite, and re-installed it, but the problem still persists.
