I have vista home premium when i try and open word docs from the internet or outlook they show as notepad. When i right click to open in a different format i do not get word as an option. does anyone know how to solve this?
I apologize if this is a duplicate question- I have searched this forum and not found this topic. In WinXP, when selecting View Folders, I would see a closed folder, with 4 small images of the folder contents. I liked this as I instantly knew what images were in my folder. I am drilling down as follows: Documents, then the folders come into view. These are the folders I am discussing here. Windows Explorer gives the same results.
In Vista, I get a partially open folder, with the contents partially visible, but cascaded so as to obscure the contents under the first view. I've tried all the possible options I can find withing Vista, including Large Icons, etc. I have searched online for how to make the folders give me the preview pane as in XP, to no avail. I have tried numerous fixes found online, but they do not work. I may be using the wrong terminology, but I have spent two months trying to get the folders to display as in XP. Would someone here know a fix for this?
I have a new HP laptop that came with windows vista home premium, and I cannot get it to print any office XP word documents or PDF files. What is really odd is that it registers the printer, shows the ink available in each cartridge, and the printer will print my emails from comcast. I loaded the newest drivers, updated everything. I am stumped. Microsoft Vista will not print microsoft word documents.
When I create word documents in vista, they are always saved as .docx files. When I or others open these documents on PCs they are gibberish. How can you save a word file as a .doc in vista?
I have tried to have files open in a uniform way, I have not been able to do this with the Windows Vista Control Panel. Under "view" I would prefer a "List" rather than large or medium sized Icons. I have tried checking various boxes under Folder Options but have not been able to standardize a list view.
I am unable to paste information from my e-mail or the web to a word document. I receive a message stating that the amount selected is too large, but when I select only one word to copy, the message remains the same.
New Toshiba laptop with Vista Home Premium 64 Bit. Windows Mail as email client; unable to view or open any attachments. Attachment is clearly visible in the Preview pane with a yellow paperclip, but I am unable to access this attachment in any way. I have AVG 8.5 installed as AV / Email Scanner (this program is known to work with other Vista 64-Bit OS'). IE8 was previsously installed, but after reading threads in this forum, I removed it and restarted the computer- but still have the same problem.
After loading pix and short video clips from Panasonic camera SD card to computer running Vista, it assigns photos for viewing in .jpeg format, which is fine, but the video clips are assigned a .mov file type and cannot be viewed. Does anyone know how to change the file type so I can watch the video clips since the .mov extension is not supported in WPG?
I am unable to to open any office apps or pdf. I get the error 'file can not be found'. I never used to have this problem. The only thing I have changed is downloading Internet Explorer 8 - would this effect windows mail?
I can't access any thing uder my user profile such as My Documents and My Pictures, it's a ADM profile with all rights.Do I need to access it with main PC Adm Profile and reset the rights?
I have installed Works Suite 2006 in my Vista Home Premium computer. Everything works fine apart from Word 2002. I am unable to open Word by clicking on document files. If I double click on a document file in Explorer nothing happens. If I right click and select Open With, and then click on wordicon, nothing happens. I am also unable to launch Word from the Works Suite program launcher. I can open Word, no problem, and it appears to work fine, but to edit a document I have to search for it from within Word, which is often inconvient. I have un-installed the suite, and re-installed it, but the problem still persists.
When I edit Word Documents I get something that looks weird with all sorts of strange characters in the document or letter. How do I edit a previously created Word file and get it to look like a normal document like they did with Word 2003?
I use Vista and want to know how to open a file that was originally in Word 97? 2003 to open in Vista Word 2007 and how to convert that file to the Word 2007 format. When I searched Microsoft on this issue, it said to click on Start and look for the word convert. When I did that I could not find the work convert.
I am not able to view picture in a video on Windows media player 11 and Vlc Media player. I am trying every thing out, but nothing works. I have a new Sony Vaio-VGN FZ21Z
I looked but couldn't find this issue elsewhere. I noticed that when I opened my files, there were extra MY DOCUMENTS folders. Other people who used this computer apparently messed around and copied MY DOCUMENTS folders. I tried to remedy the mess, but did so when I was tired, and seem to have made matters worse. Now, when I go to the Start Menu> Documents the documents are not there. I am at a loss as to how to fix this.
I am unable to send email. Using Vista. Have emptied outbox as suggested in other posts. Outbox was emptied without difficulty, sent to drafts, then deleted. Created new email - tried to send - still couldn't. Error message - unable to connect to smpt server. Have gone to tols - accounts - servers - re-entered info.
Installed SP1 late last week and I'm quite unhappy with it. Stupid SP turned all the start up items and proccesses on, that I'd spent weeks filtering through and turning off. I've turned off pretty much everything, yet my computer takes about twice as long to boot up as before. I HATE that stupid icon they've used to replace the hourglass, because it's ALWAYS there.
In addition, the newest oddity is only the 1st person to login can get their hotmail without a reboot. If I login under my username and get hotmail, then my wife switches user and tries to get her hotmail she can login, but can't view her inbox. The opposite is true if she logs in first and I switch user. Who knows what else this SP screwed up but I haven't found yet. Anybody else have this issue and figure out a fix?
i seem to be having issues trying to watch a Internet flick or any other kind of flash /video files? when it tells me too download adobe, and i do, nothing happens, i know im an idiot but what am i missing here?
I'm looking for info on the best way to remotely view another PC. I know how to setup a RDP connection, but I'm wondering if there is a more efficient "view only" solution. What I'd like to do is walk around a room with a tablet PC, and have what is on my screen copied to a separate desktop PC in the same room. The desktop PC would be projecting to a screen using an LCD projector. FWIW, this is the only way I can think of to use a wireless lcd tablet that also connects to an LCD projector. I have a wireless tablet (Wacom Graphire) that almost does this, but the tablet itself just has a grey surface to write on. I have to look up at the projector screen to see what I'm writing.
How do I view the progress of a HD Defrag in Windows Vista Home Prmium SP1 x64. In Win XP you could watch the progress by clicking on the window while the drive was being defragged.
I have Windows Mail set to download email from Google locally via POP3. It has been working great and I've been receiving all of my emails, no problem. Yesterday, Windows Mail started getting really slow when it came to reading messages. It may take it 2-30 seconds for an email (which has already been downloaded locally) to show up in my preview pane.
I did go through the steps are running wmutil151 and "SlowWinmail_Fix" (clears the blocked site list), which I found in this forum. I also opened Windows Calendar for a few minutes. None of them seemed to have an impact on the situation. I moved the mail folder to a different drive. No impact.
Today the problem changed and worsened. Now when I select a message, (existing or a fresh inbox message), the preview pane (only) will gray slightly for the same period of time, then turn the normal white, and no message is displayed. If I double click on a message, after the delay, it comes up, again with a blank body (the headers are all there at the top).
Messages with attachments will show the attachments, but when you double click on them, it pops up with an error box, "Windows cannot find ''. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. A third party tool ('Windows Mail Attachment Extractor') can pull down those same attachements, no problem. System is Windows Vista, 32 bit mode. Plenty of hard drive space left. The only significant recent change was the upgrade to Firefox 3.5. Antivirus software is AVG.
I have a habit to see the date of delete of the files in recycle bin before i permanently erase them. Each time i open the recycle bin folder, the right pane view is always in Tiles mode, even i have changed it to Details mode. Vista has totally no memory about this. That is not something very difficult but i do not know why xp can do it, but vista cant !
I turned off User Account Control but in Explorer I still can't open Documents and Settings and a number of other folders. How can I configure Vista so that I can view any folder/file I want , as I could in XP ?
