How To Print To A File Instead To Printer
			Jun 23, 2009
				I have Vista Ultimate.
I don't have a printer, but there are some documents that i want to save.
The only option in a web page to make copy of them is to print them.
How can i configure my vista to print what ever "to file" instead to printer?

I have a Dell PC with XP Home and a Dell A960 Printer attached to it. I also have a new HP Laptop with Vista premium that has also had the same printer attached to it at times so the drivers are installed on HP laptop. I recently installed a router so I can use laptop wirelessly. That works fine. However, I am unable to print to the host printer wirelessly. I get message saying printer cannot communicate with computer. I tried everything I found on Google searches. I have enabled printer sharing on both. Do I have to make the Workgroup names the same and if so do I change the Dell with XP or the HP with Vista? I changed the Dell once to no avail so I changed back. Do computer names have to be same? I am a novice at networking.

I have a XP desktop and a Vista laptop. I have the network configured and I can see the shared folders and printers on the XP desktop from the Vista laptop. I can access the shared folders and printer. I can send a print job to the printer from the laptop and I can see it in the print que but the job will not print it just sits there. I cant print a test page or any other document. I let Vista install the print drivers for the printer, a Lexmark 1270.

I added HP printer using open as admintrator command through the control panel and I can see the printer on MS word control center, however it does not print at all. I tried printing via pdf and still it does not print. It seems that vista 64 is not seeing the printer.

So i got a Dot Matrix Panasonic KX P2123 for my computer. My use of this is for tatoo stencils in which you dont need the ribbon and such. But I just got it todayand went to hook it up to my computer and hooked it up with a parallel/USB cord. Once I did so, I went to add printer, and added it just fine, automatically had the driver installed. Which I was trilled about!.............

I did a clean install with VISTA ULTIMATE (same program as-was). I have been trying to figure out all day why the USB laser jet printer will not print. It is supposed to 'see and install a USB printer when switched on', but it won't. Nothing was changed on the hardware hook-up since it worked fine on the previous VISTA O/S. I know this is got to be a simple fix, but danged if I can figure it out?

There was a problem when installing the Dell v305 printer that I found answered at I tried to follow their solution but in the folder C:Windowssystem32spoolDRIVERS I could not delete the folder color, because, it said I need permission to delete it. I am the sole owner and user of the computer. How can I provide permission to myself?

I have done this often on XP to XP. Now I want to do it on a two machine setup using VISTA on one machine and XP on the other.
I have a EPSON R320 printer installed and working fine on the XP machine. It was connected to that machine's USB.
I moved the USB connector to the VISTA machine and installed the printer drivers etc on that machine. It printed fine.
On both machines printer sharing is activated, using share name R320.
I moved the USB connection back to the XP machine, I can't figure out how to 'add printer' on the VISTA machine to enable printing on the R320 from the VISTA machine to the R320 via the XP machine.

I have a new Vista 64-bit computer. Connected to the Vista computer is an HP F4820 Desk Jet printer. My Vista computer connects to the internet via a wireless connection. In another room in the house, we have an XP computer. It, too, connects
to the internet and home network via the wireless connection. When I got the Vista 'puter and the new printer, and hooked them up, the XP computer was able to print. It took some hoop-and-fire jumping to get it to do so, but it did.
My DVD/CD burner died and I had to kill my computer at the instruction of Dell (grrr), which created more problems than it was worth given that I already knew it was a harddrive problem. BUT, anyway, now my XP cannot print........

We have a small network with 3 PCs and 1 printer with wired connections to a router. All of the PCs can see each other on the network. One of the PCs cannot see or print to the network printer, though the other two can. The printer is shown as installed, but PING shows 4 packets sent, 4 packets received - 'Host Unreachable'. Is there some file or driver that might be corrupted on the one PC causing this... ?

I've got 2 Vista laptops. Both on Home Premium. One of them is sharing a usb Lexmark 8300 printer. The other one can see the shared resources and connect to that printer but it can't print. No error messages whatsoever. After printing a test page I can see number 1 next to the printer status but when I double click the printer the print job is not there. Both the computers are in the same workgroup. Both have Printer Sharing enabled in Network and Sharing Center. On the computer that's sharing the printer the Everyone group was given full access. All paper set to A4 on both of them.

I have a Brother MFC-420CN that I had hooked up to our Fios wireless router for almost 2 yrs with no problems. We had to unhook everything for a while. When I went to set it back up tonight I tried to print to it from My Dell Desktop (Vista Home Basic) but it kept erroring out. I noticed that it said it was offline. I checked my router admin page and it showed the printer as active and enabled with an IP address of 192.168.1.100. I was able to successfully ping it from the admin panel and the comand prompt, but I was not able to view it in a browser window. I tried rebooting the router, PC and printer to no avail. I then tried printing from my wireless laptop, (Compaq- Vista). I successfully did a test print from the laptop, but then I tried to view the printer thru an internet browser and after that it did the same thing as the Dell.
It will show Ready for the status, but if I try to print it errors out and goes to Offline. I tried it from one other laptop we have (Toshiba-Vista) with no luck. I tried deleting and readding the printer, no change. I found a thread that said to remove SNMP from the Port settings. I did that on both the Dell and the Compaq. The Compaq now prints, but the Dell still won't print at all. Haven't tried it on the Toshiba yet (limited access- teenagers pc :-) I don't see why unplugging it would make it stop working on all three pc's. I don't know why I can ping it, but not connect to it in a browser or print to it.

I have a remote printer installed with a wireless router. I install the printer on a wireless notebook PC using Vista???s wizard, and initially everything works properly. However, if I turn off the PC, or reboot it, or sometimes only if just a few days elapses the PC will no longer be able to get the printer to print. If I have the spooler enabled, the pages appear to be sent to the printer, but nothing happens. If the spooler is disabled, then the process just hangs until I abort it. The only other symptom I've seen is that when the problem is occurring the printer???s status shows it is offline, but when I try to change it to online the status simply changes to ???offline.offline???. Wireless connectivity does not appear to be a source of the problem, since I have no interruption of other network activities, including Internet.

i have problem with HP Deskjet 450 under Vista Home Premium. Printer is installed by Vista, everything looks ok, but i can't print. When i want to print Test page, only row of 2-20 smilies is coming out in best case and print job shows error . When i ask HP, they say Microsoft is responsible for drivers. Microsoft says i should ask HP. I slowly begin to be annoyed. Have bought short certified hi-speed USB 2.0 cable. Windows update shows that there is optional update for Other hardware - dj450 USB, dowloaded and it says it is not possible to install, error code: 80070103. Under Win XP are no problems. Is there any solution aside from buying new printer or downgrade to XP?Is there a way to install this update

My situation is I have a home network with one desktop running XP Home, attached to a wireless router by CAT5 cable and a local Epson printer. The Epson printer was shared as a network printer. I have another NEC notebook, which accessing the network very fine through the WiFi, and can print properly. I just purchased a new Sony notebook that run Vista Business. I set up the network as follows :
Workgroup : checked and was the same as my desktop
Network : Private
Printer sharing : On
File sharing : On
I can see my desktop in the network map. The notebook can browse the internet by using IE without any problem. However, I cannot add the network printer. I choose "Add new printer", and choose "add new network printer", the result is no network printer found. I also try to add new local printer, and build a new port, and key in my shared printer location "\Zeeman_DesktopeemanEpson", but got the response that the port is not correct.

        Using vista business sp2.
Have had the printer for several years and it works flawlessly
3 days ago it suddenly refused to print When I look at the printer folder, it is default but it says it's offline I can't find out how to make it go online
From 'justanswer' I was told to do a restor, so I've tried going back a couple of restores, but they both failed, then had to undo the restores to get back to where I was
In safe mode I removed the printer then added it back by re-installing its software
sometimes vista asks me to say which port, but as it's usb plugnplay I dont know how to handle it I've tried resetting the printer from this website

I'm having a problem with Vista business that's driving me crazy. At work I have Vista business on a main machine (called MAIN). It's a Dell Vostro and it came pre-installed with Vista Business, 4 GB RAM, 200 GB hard drive. I have patient management and imaging software on it and I have up to 7 computers that connect to MAIN to access this software. I have all the sharing and security settings for "Everyone" and I can connect with all seven computers most of the time. But everyday, one or two of the workstation computers (running Vista basic), will be kicked off and I get an error message when I try to reconnect to MAIN "No more connections can be made at this remote computer at this time because there are already as many connections as this computer can accept."

So I can't access the software on MAIN, I can't print to the printer on MAIN, I can't do anything until I reboot MAIN. Then everything can connect again. This happens randomly and I know the maximum connections is 10 computers, so why am I having this problem with 7? Connection to the router is fine and I have internet connections on all seven. 2 of the seven are wired to the router and the other 5 are wireless connections.

I have a new Dell computer running Vista Home Premium. My Brother printer prints fine when hooked up via USB. But won't print wirelessly through my router (Airport Express). The computer recognizes the printer wirelessly and has it as "ready." When I send something to print, it starts printing the first few lines and then just stops and won't print the rest. If I try again, nothing happens at all. I have to uninstall and reinstall the printer to get it to do anything. And even then, it won't print more than the first few lines of the document. Had no problems printing wirelessly with this printer and router on my old Dell that ran XP.

i am trying to make a wireless connection from my sony vaio laptop, running vista business, to a printer (canon pixma ip4300) connected via usb to the print server of my wireless router (siemens gigaset SE551). i installed the printer as a 'local' printer on a tcp/ip address, as per the router manual - admittedly, the manual instructions were for winxp.
the problem: the printer comes up in vista as 'offline', cannot be changed to online, and won't print. documents appear in the print queue but do not print out - only sometimes when i restart the computer, the printer prints out a page or two of whatever the last failed job was. the same wireless setup with my old sony xp pro laptop works perfectly, and the printer works when connected to the vista laptop directly via usb cable, so the problem must be vista... i've turned off win defender and win firewall to no avail.
should i install the printer as a network printer? i have tried this but windows couldn't see the printer - it could see the router, but not the printer connected to it. but i've never setup a networked printer before so maybe there is something simple i'm missing.

Vista Ultimate - 64 bit. In one of my folders, I have an extensive sub- folder tree which I'd like to print out as a Word file. Here's what I've done:
1. I click Start | Programs | Accessories | Command Prompt
2. Using the CD command, I get to the head folder of the desire sub-folder tree
3. If I then run the command "Tree", the sub-folder tree scrolls by quickly in the desired format - i.e., like a genealogy chart, with lines connecting the various levels.
But if I try to pipe the output to a text or Word file using the command tree>tree.txt or tree>.tree.doc, I get the tree. But the nice lines linking the various levels are replaced by a sequence of bogus characters. The maddening thing is that I was earlier able to get the nice chart into a Word document. But I neglected to record the steps, and can't reproduce them.

Have checked the posts regarding this subject and googled it extensively but could not find any definitive answers. As I stated in some other post I got MS Office 97 Pro installed just fine and everything's working with no major problems; don't even have to use any compatability mode on Access, Excel and Binder (Powerpoint, Outlook are not installed) but must use WIN2000 compatability mode for Word or I can't use the Tools/Envelopes and Labels feature (popup-something about incorrect parameter). The problem I have is with printing in Word.
I can print just fine from the print icon on the toolbar in both regular view or print preview but when I try to use Print from within the File menu I get an error message like the one shown below. All other printing from any of those mentioned programs works just fine. I've been at this for some time now; uninstalled through Vista and MS Office Add/Remove and by also removing any readily identifiable instances of MS Office, reinstalled as an Administrator and not, in addition to using different compatability modes and the Print "problem" in Word persists.

I try to delete a print job file from printer spool opening the printer icon besides the system clock, spool driver says "deleting" but never really delete! Normally I need to reboot to really eliminate the file from the list and print a new file. Sometimes this doest work and the printer, after reboot, try to print that file. There are another way to eliminate a file from the list IMMEDIATLY? Maybe deleting the temp file or something like that. (Windows Vista Home Premium)

When I try to print a web site image to an Adobe PDF file, Vista states that for security purposes the pdf file will be placed in a "virtual" temporary internet file folder, then opens the virtual folder on C drive, but then doesn't save the file in the folder. I've been able to work around the problem by disabling all user account control security, but there has to be an easier way. I'd like to save files without security forcing them to a
specific folder.

This is regarding a desktop using Vista Home Premium and a laptop using Vista Home Premium. A shared printer is attached to the desktop. I've spent more than a few hours of researching on the internet, including the technet information for Vista file/print sharing. I have enabled file and print sharing without using a password on a private network. I have Xp machines on my home network. I am able to access them with no issues.
My issue is that when I access my Vista Home Premium desktop from the Vista Home Premium laptop (or vice versa), I have to enter a username. Any letter of the alphabet works, a password is not required. My desktop is a dual boot system. The other OS is XP Home. It does not require a username for file/print sharing................

I have a small LAN with a Vista desktop (called Osiris) and a few XP laptops (one of which is called Snowdancer. Last week I did a "clean" install of Vista on Osiris. Before this clean install I had two way communications between Snowdancer and Osiris. I use Windows Explorer to move files between the two. After the clean install Osiris could still manipulate files on Snowdancer, but the reverse is not happening. BTW, print sharing works and so does "Public Folders." From this I conclude that I do not have a connection issue, right? I do not have a Domain.
My C: drive is "Shared." I log into Snowdancer with my full name Robert Schuldenfrei and a password. I log into Osiris with my nickname Bob and no password. I am an administrator on both systems. I have searched through this NG for similar problems and there are lots of posts. I have come up short with every repair I have looked into, so I must be missing something. Remember, before my clean install I had this working just fine.
