I've had a problem for a while now. Every time I open Windows Mail up, or the news groups, I get a message saying Windows mail isn't my default mail program, and asks if I want it to be. I click yes every time, but I will still get this message when I open Windows Mail again the next day. Everything's works OK after I click this message. No other errors or anything.

But, I couldn't do so in my university's news group, it only worked fine with my system installed with XP + OE! Is it possible for some news servers do not accept posting / reply from WM / vista (*however, i can't read the newsgroup without any problem...)

When I access my comcast e-mail (where all the info is correctly entered and stored in the account setup) I have no problem. When I try to access my newsgroup (where all my info is correctly entered and stored in the account setup) a Windows Security window pops up, displays my Vista PC administrator symbol and asks me for a user name and password to access the newsgroup account. I enter the correct info and Windows Security screen will not accept it. I had never ever been asked for a user name and password by a Windows Security Pop Up before and it doesn't ask me for that info on my e-mail.

i really want my default e-mail server to be set up to something that works. and i do not want to go back to using my yahoo account.
I've tried using Control Panel where I can't find Windows Mail as an option for default e-mail handler.
Tried changing by accessing Properties from Windows Mail but when I change to "Make this the defalut e-mail handler, apply and save then exit and return to Properties the setting has returned to Not the default e-mail handler.
I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium.
Note:
Control panel does show Windows mail as being the Default Newsgroup handler.
every time it opens it says its not the default. I can go to options and click make default which it accepts but after presing OK and reopening options it says again it is not the default mail handler I had thought that this ptoblem was linked to have outlook installed I have uninstalled this now and rebnooted but the problem persists linked to this problem perhaps is the fact that internet options only sees windows mail as a news handler

I don't think I installed it, could it have installed on it's own as an update? Tried saving them to desktop but don't know how to separate them from the e-mail, so they still don't open.

I have gone into tools and "set as default" but it doesn't stay, so I went online to find an answer - I got some great help from an earlier post but when I went into Default programs - set program access and computer default - custom I find "use my current email program" but no tick boxes for enable access to this program.

This is pretty annoying to say the least for recipients. I've tried typing in the address and hitting send quickly (on a test) but the program is too fast for me, it duplicates the address anyway. View 7 Replies View RelatedCannot get Windows mail to connect to my Yahoo POP3 server. Contacted Yahoo and we installed telnet and successfully connected to the servers through there. Old computer had Outlook express connected to the same account and I had no problems. Have checked the setting numerous times to insure they are correct. There are discussions on this general subject but no aparent resolution. About two months ago I was sometimes prevented from opening photo attachments on some emails received from the same party and sometimes could open them. By this I mean, I would click on the paperclip where a list of photos would appear and I'd click on on photo and I'd get a message saying: "Windows cannot find file name (photo captions used by sender).jpg. Make sure your typed the name correctly and then try again." Well, of course I didn't type the file name; the sender did. I could click on the save attachments, and once saved to a folder I could open them from the folder. I forwarded the mail to others, and they report no problems in viewing the photos. I can also view the photos in the email itself, but it would be necessary to scan up and down and from left to right to view the whold photo and the caption would not appear.

The Go-News menu function in Outlook 2007 on Vista Home Premium SP1 will NOT call any other newsreader other than Windows Mail, even when the other news reader is set as default.(Ie it opens when external news links are clicked).This is in direct contradiction to Outlook 2007 on XP.
I think I must have deleted one of my windows mail programs. I have Windows Mail (News) but not the other one, Windows Mail. I can use the windows mail to send and receive mail but when I click on an email address from the internet, it says that it can't do that because the default mail client is not properly installed. How do I disable this security warning dialog box from popping up? I am confident my Avast! virus definitions will detect and intercept any virus or spyware attached to any url before the file is opened, so I really don't need this feature, it is annoying.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I boot up in the morning, I have to wait 20 to 30 mins before Outlook 07 will connect to my Exchange 2003 server. Until then, when I try to open Outlook it says, cannot open the default e-mail folders. And it suggests there is a network issue or that the Exchange server is down. These are not the case. The Exchange server is up and there are no network issues. I have many other computers attached to the network and none of them have this issue. Some our XP Pro/Office 07, some are XP Pro/Office 2003. The big difference with my machine is that it is Vista.
After about 20 to 30 minutes, wow! it connects! And then it's good for the rest of the day. I usually only minimize Outlook after I actually get it open so the connection is maintained throughout the day. I'm not sure what would happen if I closed it completely. But one thing is for sure, every morning, it takes 20 to 30 minutes before it will connect. Eventually, it always connects.
I have been running IE8 vista on my Dell xps 630i using CA anti virus, the problem is every now and again when i click on the Windows mail icon i get a message telling me that there is another instance of mail running shut it down and reboot, I have done this I also have done the clean boot but it keeps happening
